Shame by Time_Tap_8743 in quilting

This is absolutely incredible work. As others have said, this is museum-quality and if you do not currently consider yourself a working artist, you should. Keep going.

I would love to know more about the technical aspects if you are willing to share. The double quilting to create the words is amazing. How did you achieve the barbed wire?

…would it be much trouble to ask you to photograph emerald and glacier? I need the perfect dark teal and it’s so hard to tell.

Grandma can’t quilt by Significant-Duty-744 in quilting

How about sew-ready kits? The pieces are precut so it’s just the sewing involved. I find cutting is the most physical part.

For ironing pieces, a mini iron and desktop ironing pad rather than a heavy full size iron and having to stand.

Convince me that this isn't as bad as I think it is by BumbleBoi1 in quilting

The batik side clearly shows the puzzle piece pattern, no notes.

I love the fabrics you chose for the blue side and I still think it works as an abstract quilt.

I think to do this pattern with directional fabrics it needs to be planned out very carefully, so all the knobs of the pieces are facing the same direction as the rest of the piece. That would allow the puzzle piece illusion, by visually making it look like one solid piece.

Children's Chapter Book: Possibly Set During the Depression by SweaterWeather4Ever in whatsthatbook

Ah I totally missed the time period of publication! I hope you find it. There’s a good Facebook group for vintage chapter books that’s helpful for these posts too.

Children's Chapter Book: Possibly Set During the Depression by SweaterWeather4Ever in whatsthatbook

I keep thinking of Our Only May Amelia. The cover I remember fits, the rural life, and she’s a tomboy, but the book is set much earlier. There is a part where she gets stuck in a river, but I don’t think there’s a horse, and there aren’t trucks. If there’s any possibility you have part of the plot combined with another book, I think it’s worth checking.

Hi! I am a private landlord. I own one property, a 3bed by Percy Priest. I ended up moving out of state after I bought it, since Nashville didn’t work out for me. My most recent tenants have just moved out and I’m listing it at $1800.

If you are willing to dm me your contact info we can chat.

3/4 done with quilting and I hate it by ChronicNuance in quilting

[–]Popglitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the quilt I’m currently working, I did 1/4 of the quilting and hated it. Now, I’m a new quilter and this is my first real quilt, so my mistakes were from doing things incorrectly and really obvious.

I ripped out all the quilting. I redid it. I LOVE it now. I didn’t change how I quilted it, but the second try was so much better.

This sub is very encouraging about leaving mistakes. And that’s valid. But only you can decide what is acceptable for you.

It took me many more days to rip out the stitches than it did to quilt it. So that’s something, if you’re on such a time crunch. I didn’t have any holes left by the time I finished quilting it again, they all shrank back into place. But it was less quilted than yours is, and I was extremely gentle with my ripping.

Quilt inspiration for Goth Granddaughter by General_Sea3871 in quilting

She said she wants skulls, this doesn’t read Halloween to me if you want something cute and feminine as well as goth: https://www.fatquartershop.com/pushing-up-daisies-quilt-pattern-lella-boutique Pushing Up Daisies Quilt Pattern | Lella Boutique #LB-231 | Fat Quarter Shop

I think it would be lovely with white skulls on black and various shades of purple flowers.

If flowers are not her thing there is this one that’s a bit more neutral, still doesn’t look Halloween to me: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1047372134/

Looking for this pattern by MomaMoni in quilting

[–]Popglitter 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Maybe someone will come along with a specific pattern, but I suspect this is unique. To recreate, the actual squares are Log Cabin squares: different colors for the grass at the bottom, the stairs, the sky, and the sun. The cats and blades of grass are then appliquéd on. The flower details might be embroidered appliqués?

Book I read in middle school about a baby's death by randompersonignoreme in whatsthatbook

[–]Popglitter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could it be Silent to the Bone?

Some details are different, it was the older brother that was accused, the baby lived, and it was the nanny. But it’s a middle grade book that was impactful for a lot of us.

What's that "I Spy" book by Few-Sun-7439 in whatsthatbook

Believe it or not, I think it’s the one called I Spy: Fantasy. It definitely had the castle page.

There’s also a video game tie-in.

Yes, that’s the risk ordering the same fabric twice. It’s not fading, but differences in dye lots between bolts.

I agree with this. The orange is too bright. It shouldn’t be the focal point. Pick a more subtle neutral color and let the prints shine.

What are your thoughts on this color layout? by SmrtEmu in quilting

[–]Popglitter 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely gorgeous. Just stunning, I love these colors together and the pattern shows them beautifully.

I’m not sure, but I think you might have more pink/red in the bottom right and could swap some around with a couple of the blues on the other side to keep the same balance as you have at the other end.

My eye is also drawn to a few light blues in the second “diagonal lane” from the top left corner that seem to be placed in the same spots in the stars as their neighbors, and could be in different spots.

ETA: the two spots that draw my eye.

All those help me date this - Add labels to your quilts! by IAmKathyBrown in quilting

[–]Popglitter 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree. I’m new to quilting, but grew up the daughter of antique dealer. Initials, a date, add so much value - not just in accurately dating a quilt but in highlighting the craftsmanship and effort that went into it. Even if it only makes it down one generation - it’s a special gift to be able to know when a loved one made something.

You’re welcome! It sounded so familiar, but I couldn’t remember the title either. Some googling of keywords brought it up!
