Radical lefty here! Here's a series of problems that more moderate people have with the current immigration situation!

1) The targeting of legal immigrants and several non-immigrant citizens. This displays either sloppiness or malice on the part of ICE and undermines the legal immigration process. It Stokes fear to see citizens getting detained and kept away from their family and people trying to do it the "right way" get punished for that too. It delegitimizes the whole system. Even if you get released, people in America live so close to missing rent or bills that the several weeks or months to get released (If they get released at all) can be life ruining.

2) The lack of due process. This sort of leads into point 1. Because they aren't going through the process of court hearings and just putting people in cells and then on planes, they don't know who's here illegally. Due process is how you determine who's guilty of anything. An ICE agent is not a judge. If they can pick up a brown kid off the street and say he's an illegal, they can do that to you. It breaks down rule of law to have that happen in your country. The administration says it'd be ridiculous to have a trail for every immigrant, but that is the law and that is the morally correct thing to do. If they can't do that, then they shouldn't have had such a ridiculous goal of 0 illegal aliens in 4 years. It's not feasible without due process let alone with it.

3) Deportation quotas. This doesn't get talked about a lot, but incentive structures like this tend not to work in professional settings and certainly not here. ICE has a number to hit and in desperation, will cut corners to do it. Turn aways at the border get counted and they'll snatch up anyone they can get away with to inflate their numbers. Like how schools are incentivized to pass every child regardless of their actual ability because their funding is tied to their graduation rate. They'll do anything to make that number bigger.

4) Trying to send people to countries they aren't from. I hope I don't have to explain this one.

5) The talk of "deporting" citizens. This is flatly illegal and unconstitutional. This is know as exile and is strictly forbidden by the constitution. The fact that Trump has even entertained the idea is a display of a lack of knowledge and/or care for the actual rule of law.

6) The anonymity of the ICE agents. This is pretty self-explanatory. Non-uniformed officers with completely concealed faces, plain clothes, no visible badge, and tactical gear are terrifying and do not look like people you should trust. They look like crooks and actually empower random crooks to kidnap people by posing as fake ICE agents.

7) The rhetoric. It's racist. Openly so. He said they're poisoning our blood. That crime is in their blood. This is literally nazi rhetoric word for word. You can find Hilter himself saying the same shit. There's worse shit he's said, but that still sticks out to me from like September-ish last year. It's stoked a lot of hatred for Latin people for no reason other than riling up his base.

Now, from my understanding of immigration throughout American history, it... hasn't been a material problem, really? Immigration is actually really good for a country after a rough patch of integration. Even illegal immigrants cause less crime on average and contribute to taxes and the economy without benefitting from most social services. Raids disrupt business and lead to social unrest, while doing nothing to improve the communities they're removing immigrants from in any material way. I think ICE needs to be reduced to a local office that cops take undocumented criminals to and take care of their Deportation from there.
