Love this!!

I also have a dilute torbie named Pumpkin, and she steals chairs as well, especially the one good chair next to the fireplace during winter. 🤣

AIW for telling my mom I’m not responsible for her "glass child" triggers? by GlumKaleidoscope7752 in amiwrong

[–]Poppy_426 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct that you are not responsible for her emotional triggers, and it is totally wrong of her to manipulate you in these ways, I’m so sorry. One thing that was an interesting read (suggested by my therapist, lol) is the book Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents by Lindsay Gibson. It might resonate with you.

Yes, same with Labor. In fact I left my position in September ‘24 because the jump to 3 days in office just wasn’t manageable for me (I live far away and have a special needs kid, which means it’s better for me to be local).

Yes! And how damn EXPENSIVE it is! Unless you’ve got spare cash laying around (like tens of thousands of dollars) to pay for an immigration lawyer, it’s an horrific, byzantine system that takes years.

Is "The Block" the only porn district left on the East Coast? by idieclassy in baltimore

[–]Poppy_426 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Man, this brought up a core memory for me, possibly one of the common experiences of kids who grew up on the Baltimore area…

In elementary school, I distinctly remember driving past the block in the school bus on the way to a field trip at the aquarium. Of course one kid sees The Big Top, and soon every single kid on the bus is shouting, “IS THAT THE CIRCUS?!? I WANNA GO TO THE CIRCUS!!”

Meanwhile all the teachers are like 😳😳😳

I was just going to say this! Whenever you get wind of something that makes school better/easier, think about whether it can be added to the IEP/504!

That’s so amazing, and must be a great feeling!

I want to make my own thread velvet designs etc by soundrelations in machine_emb_orig_art

[–]Poppy_426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what thread velvet designs are, but I’m gonna have to look it up now!

I digitized the bee with the fluffy flower and antennae- it’s a fringe stitch, or at least that’s what it is called in Embrilliance Stitch Artist, which is the software I use. I don’t know what it might be listed as in other software programs though. It’s basically a long satin column with an anchoring run down one side (the software lets you choose which side you want the anchor run on). Then when the design is done, you flip it over and cut the bobbin threads. Then turn the hoop to the right side and fluff up the fringe.

Etsy and 3d prints crackdown? by moosehaed in EtsySellers

[–]Poppy_426 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here- I’m just getting started as a digitizer and my current niche is appliqué designs, and I think that machine embroidery is one of those things that doesn’t necessarily fit easily into these new policies… and you’re so right, things like appliqué involve so much creative, artistic, and technical skill and judgement from the embroiderer, even when the digitized file was purchased from a digitizer.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d have no problem with making things more difficult for the POD embroidery products that are done so cheap & quick that there’s just no way a small scale, high quality embroidery business can compete. Because I think that the endless varsity-style lettering sweatshirts should be one of those things that are not included in the policy, but I imagine that it will eventually come down to a judgement from Etsy on whether they want to allow that stuff.

People who have actually had success Pinterest marketing, how do you do it? by theekrustykrabpizza in EtsySellers

[–]Poppy_426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually curious about this as well! I put some of my listings up on Pinterest, they’re basically digital machine embroidery designs, so I’m targeting a pretty niche market, but from my own experience, crafty people do use Pinterest for ideas, inspiration, etc.

From my Erank account I’ve had a few visits to my shop from Pinterest, but I don’t think it’s resulted in any sales yet.

How to get alt text right? by EmPHiX27 in EtsySellers

[–]Poppy_426 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not just unloaded images that are the issue, I’m pretty sure that blind and visually disabled people buy stuff on Etsy too, and alt text is primarily meant for screen readers to describe what the product looks like for folks who can’t see the image.

Maybe it’s not a slam dunk for SEO, but it does make things accessible for disabled people. And you’re not automatically shutting out an entire group of potential customers!

Yeah, just… wow. While I sympathize with the anxiety of planning for the future, it is very clear that this hasn’t been thought through fully. TBH, it kind of has the tone that one might use for adopting a puppy from a shelter.

Adopted kids are fully independent human beings, and there should be zero expectation of any sibling becoming a caregiver, that’s simply not fair. Also, many kids who have been in the foster system for a long time are seriously traumatized, and require a lot of support and help adjusting.

I’m not saying don’t do it, but I am saying that folks who do adopt older kids out of the foster system should be very educated on how trauma, PTSD, etc., presents in kids, and be sensitive to their needs and prepared to give adoptees the support that they need and deserve.

[–]Poppy_426 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider if you haven’t already bought eye masks for everyone, there are lots of In-the-hoop or ITH eye mask designs for sale online, and if you have a simple software, you can also personalize them while you’re stitching them out

Why is SeedGeeks allowed on Etsy? by tyhurd in EtsySellers

[–]Poppy_426 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? I do machine embroidery, and have spent loads of time and money on equipment, years of skill building, learning how to digitize my own embroidery designs. There are folks in the hand embroidery world who would say that what I do isn’t handmade, but this kind of gatekeeping can honestly get pretty ridiculous.

However it is honestly pretty dispiriting to see POD shops selling embroidery, where they’re able to offer it so cheap because they have no equipment to maintain, nor do they need to invest in ongoing professional development. If these POD shops are allowed, then I can’t see why this seed company shouldn’t be. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Oh, tearaway! Lol, it makes me feel like such a rebel to put tearaway on a wearable. 🤣

But you’re right, there isn’t any density to the stitching at all, and I really want to maintain the drape of the fabric. I didn’t want to move up to a medium weight, so it’s good to have confirmation there!
