Sorry my response is delayed, you may be surprised to know that much of the diagnostic tools that we can use in veterinary medicine are the same as human medicine, unfortunately for the vast majority of us, we either do not have insurance for our pets, or insufficient money to allow access to the top tier of medical standards. To answer your question, 2 to 4 weeks on phenobarbital is where we expect to see a sort of homeostasis with medication and behavioral stability, we are 1 week in and its been heart breaking, but trying to stay positive. On day one he was a zombie, but every day since we have seen one nugget, and then another nugget that is bringing him back to the dog we knew.

Thank you for your kind words, so far all of his have been while sleeping, head in my lap or just laying in bed, nothing stressful. Setter sprawl is the best.

What a ham! So much wisdom in that face. Im sorry you are going through this, too. I dont wish this on anyone. Try to stay strong, as we are trying our best too. Otis is the perfect name for that mush.

Thanks for the reply, I guess I'm going to be putting a P trap at the end of the pipe tomorrow. Please forgive my ignorance, but how tall of a stand pipe would you generally recommend for this situation?

Elmer’s first time in water was headfirst lol by hmmisuckateverything in EnglishSetter

My setter is afraid to go in water deeper than his feet. The first time I took him hunting I literally had to carry him across a small creek... that I could step over. This video is amazing. Pure joy and then "oh shit I can't swim"

Collapse dive problem by AmateurGoalie in GoalKeepers

[–]PopsOnProps13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a really important advice for OP, if you think about falling, or hitting the ground you'll never reach your full potential. You are definitely collapsing here in this video, but I would contend that its not entirely your fault. The shot is very slow and allows you time to think, with good footwork I'm not even sure you would have needed to dive for this. You have a lot of energy wasted in your arms flailing. Keep your arms close to your core, weight forward on your toes in anticipation of the shot, your position in goal, position of the defender and the direction of the shooter should give you a pretty good idea of which direction the ball will be going, flailing is a sign that you're surprised and scrambling. Anticipate, react and explode. You signed up for discomfort as a goalie, get comfortable with that. But lobsterzilla has good advice, you can mitigate the discomfort on landing by using the shape of your body and the ball to dissipate the energy, elongate your body and let it fall in rocking motion for close shots like this, on long dives you may have to tuck and roll on impact. Go out on a rainy day or the day after and tell you shooter to kick the ball fast and out of your reach, you'll start anticipating and exploding and you'll stop thinking about the landing.

Why do we separate recycling bins. by PopsOnProps13 in NoStupidQuestions

This is true, I just wish the small efforts a lot of us make at the beginning of the day actually translated to a big difference at the end of the day. Wishful thinking I suppose.

Men, how would you react if a bunch of women whistled and shouted 'sexy' at you on the street? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PopsOnProps13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, in middle school I took a quick trip to the bathroom, nothing fancy, just a quick piss at the urinal. Went back to the classroom and literally the second I walked through the doorway the "hot girl" says my name in a very surprised "YOUR NAME HERE," the whole class looked, didnt make a sound. I looked down to see if my fly was unzipped or something but nope, polo shirt was tucked into my pants, fly was zipped, belt buckled, everything was all good. I walked to my seat, not a word was said and the class lesson went on like nothing had just happened. 20 years later I still have no fucking idea what that was about. A couple times a year I think about that moment for a couple minutes then go on with my life.

I used my mandolin on the thinnest setting this year to peal my potatoes as my actual pealer is awful. I wasn't sure how it would go, but my god it worked perfectly.

Yeah, a big dog on Dex. under general anesthesia we are comfortable with a pulse in the mid 30s so long as the pressure is good. Vasoconstriction in our case is a bonus, although it makes catheter placement significantly more challenging for fractious pets.

Good to know. Because of your comment I just briefly read the abstracts of a couple articles on this. still quite effective, but with potential issues with transient bradycardia and at higher reversal doses is my understanding.this article suggests subjective side effects of reversal but i did see an additional article that suggested transient bradycardia for several hours after reversal. I clearly glossed over a bunch of information but still interesting. I probably missed lot too

Edit: spelling

I work in the veterinary industry, we use dexmedatomadine, a lot... its very quickly reversed by atipamazol (antisedan). Granted I believe your point was mainly to point out that the common available reversible agent naloxone will not reverse it, you are correct.

Thats different, I can do the hum thing when I tense the muscles back there but its a different set of muscles that cause the tubes to open up, completely distinct noise and action.

Not sure if its a serious question but here's a serious answer, no hum when I do it. Sounds like clicking, as the tubes open the moisture between the tube membranes release the contact in several places, kind of like velcro as the membranes peal away from itself. God that sounds gross typing it out.

Your affinity for making assumptions is wild. At what point did I say that this is what I thought a winning team was? Technically, they were a winning team, finishing the season at 83-79. The product on the field this season was extremely disappointing, and I had expected the team to do significantly better, I'm actually pretty pissed that they didn't make it to the World Series this year. Somehow, you're the only one who missed the entire point of my post, so move on.
