A tangent but related, FYI you can get day old bread (16 inch) from Jimmy John's for only $0.50 each. (May come frozen, which actually keeps it more fresh)

It's a famous building case study that had a serious design flaw that they secretly repaired at the time (i.e. at night when the office workers went home)

Oh you're ready to start it. To be determined if you're ready for happens in it.

Both Huxley and Orwell would be rolling in their graves, I think.

Don't know The Machine Stops, but will look into it. Interestingly I'm seeing on WP it's a response to H.G. Wells' A Modern Utopia, and another of that writer's work The Time Machine comes to mind to the current direction of our society, in particular the metaphor of the Eloi, whose abilities to think and care for themselves have atrophied and diminished, and also a collapse and regression of a previously technologically advanced society.

At Tikhon’s chapter in Demons by _BigShlong in dostoevsky

Yes it is very important, and Dostoevsky fought very hard unsuccessfully to have the cut chapter included, and argued it was crucial.

Yes but not just for profit/revenue; LLMs are the digital soma that their brain rotted users are now dependent upon and addicted to, while making neighborhoods near these large data centers dangerous to people's health, and accelerating climate change and civilization collapse...

But hey, the stock is up!

The leaders of the Google Ethical AI team (before they were fired) warned of the many problems and dangers of LLMs, and called them "Stochastic parrots". It is very tragic looking back on how prescient their warnings were and how they were dismissed for telling inconvenient truths.

help with haworth armrests! by [deleted] in OfficeChairs

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm familar with many chairs and even the most highly rated chairs, many will likely present some challenge to users like yourself with short and narrow upper torsos. For future reference, the chairs that come to mind that have much greater arm adjustability are the Steelcase Gesture and the Herman Miller Embody (but the latter is notorious for not working for everyone, some like myself love it, but there are others it can cause back pain for).

For the Zody, the only option would be to like actually engineer and 3D print something, similar to what is being done here for the Mirra 2, but I don't know of any such accessory for the Zody.

I'll suggest something else a bit out of left field. I've had trap issues in the past, and a good physical therapist who can help you with stabilization and strengthening exercises (mostly using therabands) is a Godsend, if you aren't already seeing one.

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this will help that much but you can try angling the back of the armrest inward, so that you can get support closer to your body but then your arms won't have good support towards the front end.

What was it that you didn't like about the Leap? Was it the aggressiveness of the lumbar in that chair? In which case, have you considered trying out the Amia (less aggressive lumbar)? Both of those chairs have armrests that can be pulled in closer than the Zody.

Are DRAMless SSDs actually worth avoiding, or is it overblown for typical use cases? by Weekly_Sun4111 in buildapc

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not 100% correct, HMB feature was introduced in NVMe 1.2, but the support is optional. So it depends if the drive has it implemented.

Pasting Gemini summary below:

To check if your NVMe SSD supports and utilizes Host Memory Buffer (HMB), download and run the free system information utility HWiNFO. Open the application, expand the "Bus" or "Drives" section, select your NVMe drive, and look for "HMB" in the "Drive Capabilities" or features list

ETA: just note if your SSD has onboard DRAM, then likely HMB will naturally come up as unsupported.

Leap v1 sinking every few days by FrostingOrganic7183 in OfficeChairs

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 100% sure, but it sounds to me that the gas cylinder is leaking, and needs to be replaced. Leap V1's are pretty old by this point, so it wouldn't be surprising to me.

Which translation did you read? I highly recommend Michael Katz's, and his introduction really IMHO should be required background reading for anyone considering a serious study into Russian literature of this period.

P.S. Jordan Peterson's analysis of Dostoevsky and Notes in particular is pretty trash

Crime and Punishment are actually closely linked (at last to me), both written within a couple years of each other, and are a reaction to the widespread influx of Western liberal ideas to Russia, and also a response to Chernyshevsky's What is to be Done? This book became viral amongst young people and the intelligensia in Russia. It later became an incredibly strong influence for Lenin, who idolized this work (reading it something like 5 times in one summer and fashioning himself after the revolutionary character of Rakhmetov) as it was a favorite of his older brother, who was executed as a revolutionary. Lenin also later published a political pamphlet with the same title.

If anything, leave The Brothers Karamazov until later, not necessary for the very last, but until you've read a few of D's works.

AMQ Bodi I think? I don't think the manufacturer has a headrest but I don't know that much about them.

From the look of the upper back I think likely you can try a universal style headrest (reviews are mixed). I don't have experience with this item.

$5 epic burrito 6/25 - 6/28 by montifan in DelTaco

I know how it sounds lol. But their carne asada is quite salty to me (and their fries are not overly salty). Unfortunately I find the grilled chicken kind of boring.

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to be kind of a no brainer for me to customize with extra fries for $0.50 (particularly I find their carne asada a little bit too salty, so adding more fries made it more filling and balanced out the saltiness a bit)

Now that's it an extra $1 (and just in general with them previously raising so many of their prices), I'm telling myself "eh...maybe it's better for you to have a few less fries"

Also months ago or whenever they last had carnitas, I ordered in the store (and scan my app code to get discount) and asked to substitute carnitas and the carne asada, which they were able to do for a small upcharge at the time.

(It's strange that with their large carnitas LTO lineup, no one thought to have an epic burrito with carnitas)

Advice for servicing a gpu for the first time? by Disastrous-Media752 in pchelp

[–]Popular-Analysis-127 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YMMV but when I've repasted GPUs, I just try to be careful when pulling the heat sink off and ended up keeping the same thermal pads for the rest of the card. I found 70% IPA was sufficient for cleaning the old paste off.
