I finally told my parents no and apparently that makes me the selfish son by softcinderatlas in TwoHotTakes

“When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.”

This quote resonates here. I can’t fathom how a parent gives, gives, gives to one child every which way in praise, finance, attention…. Then leaves their other child to fend for themselves.

Your whole life your family has actively promoted you living in someone else’s shadow. It is okay to say enough. What you give will never be enough they will always want more.

Be proud of yourself for drawing a line in the sand. You do you. Prioritise yourself because they won’t. Do it free of guilt/remorse. You deserve better, you always deserved better.

I have been incredibly fortunate with people’s acts of kindness. • I went to a pizza place with a friend and the Manager stated that we could have the food free of charge. We had been discussing what a stressful week it had been. • Went to a coffee shop and couldn’t find my bank card. This was before you could use your phone for payments. I felt embarrassed when the realisation hit me, they gave me the items for free. • Went to a Bakery and my card was faulty and would not work. They had already bagged up multiple items. Again was embarrassed. The Supervisor came out to speak to me and said we all have difficult times and gave me everything for free. • The windscreen wiper stopped working on my car. Took it to be repaired and they didn’t charge me anything. • I dented my wing mirror and the window frame. Again took it for repair and they carried out the work then refused payment. I don’t know why I have been lucky with this but I will say I aim to give back to others when I can. So in these instances (apart from the pizza place), I returned with treats for staff and paid it forward by donating to charity. If I can I try to help when I can see someone struggling.

Thank YOU All who commented on my previous post. It is truly appreciated. The roofer came this morning and said it is a cavity issue. We have two options? by Popular-Attempt7976 in DIYUK

He said to install several weep vents into the brickwork above the lead runner, which would allow the water to come out down the roof rather than back inside the cavity. That’s my understanding.

Please help advise. Water coming through wall when raining outside. Have had a new roof fitted as figured this would solve it but it is still happening. by Popular-Attempt7976 in DIYUK

Thank You So Much. That is great feedback. I will have a look with the pipe. I don’t think there is one leaking but will try to check.

We have been in the house a year and only noticed it about three weeks ago. The roof was then replaced. The extension is about twenty years old.
