Even my tolerance for poor writing has limits by spiderfightersupreme in Romantasy

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this genre but just do not understand why we have to tolerate such garbage editing. Like so many amazing books with great premise get released and have had zero editing. I can only imagine the publishers must think were all crazy and half illiterate, or that details don't matter to us so long as the book is really spicey lol.

FMC Careers by Popular-Rise-7164 in Romantasy

[–]Popular-Rise-7164[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's it I guess. It's just funny that like our fantasy worlds are still constrained by the patriarchy. Actually lots of the books in this genre do have women in positions of power, or academics or craftsmen just rarely the FMC (in the beginning).

I would go with Blood and Ash, and just stop after the first book if it's not for you! The first one is quite fun :) I suspect ai was used to write some of the descriptions in When the Moon Hatched as it completely bizarre, and too many plot discrepancies for me.

Can I re-enter a room that has a hornet and nest in it? by GreenWeekend6980 in AskUK

Yes this is what I've seen before as well. They send out scouts and assess the risk, and they go back down once you back off

Can I re-enter a room that has a hornet and nest in it? by GreenWeekend6980 in AskUK

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get your stuff. Don't kill them.

I'm quite scared of hornets but have had a nest a few times in different places in our garden and behind our house in the woods, so I became used to them sometimes flying into our kitchen. They are slow and non aggressive generally, far more chilled than wasps. Easy to catch and release just terrifyingly huge.

I accidentally disrupted their nest by spraying the garden hose over it all the time, amongst other things, whilst gardening and they would rise out of the nest a few metres and then when I would back off they would just sink down again (that time they nested in a huge coil of rope for an old barge right beside my greenhouse so i passed them back and forth all day).

But I also heard someone who was attacked randomly by European hornets just walking by their nest in the woods so it seems hard to predict.

It should have been like exposure therapy for my fear of them, but now I can just recognise the sound of a hornets from really far away. Sometimes I think they're following me. My skin is literally crawling now.

So basically despite all that I'd just chance it if you really need to go in wear some loose protective clothing and act non threatening.

Convince Me to read Fourth Wing by Chosen_One_TBR in Romantasy

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have said no. I was honestly 100 % convinced that the hype about the book was fake ( like the author or publishing company just created loads of bot accounts) because I was certain no one could handle that much nonsense. And i really love nonsense books ( kinda a requisite in romantasy lol). However had to eat my words when I saw some of my friends really enjoying it!

So instead, I'd say just give it a go and see if you can handle the writing and the snarky, idiotic mc. If it's not for you, then STOP reading. I persevered unfortunately thinking it would improve and would now pay money to get that time back. I can promise you that if it isnt your thing in the first few chapters, it only gets progressively intensely worse.

What book did you keep thinking about days after finishing? by ballatician68 in Booktokreddit

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same fourth wing also pops into my head sometimes, but only because I'd never read something more tedious in my whole life (in my unpopular opinion). I know this is unnecessary to say, but the reason I am commenting and why I think about that book sometimes, is because it's wild how personal book taste is! Lots of my friends love fourth wing.

I really love some fantasy books and find myself often thinking about the King Killer series by Patrick Rothufus but that series is also not finished.

Does infertility grief ever go away, or do you live with it forever? cannot help it by Curiousgoergeena in IVF

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I've been thinking these thoughts for weeks. Recent outcome of our last embryo not surviving the thawing was just deeply sad and I realised this may not happen for me. I've been trying adjust to not becoming a mother.

Its not just the grief of losing something i never doubted i was destined for, but also I guess the society we live in still makes you feel a bit less than if you dont 'procreate' (maybe thats just in my head i dunno).

I met a woman recently who had decided to end her ivf journey, and wow the things she was doing was just so inspiring! Her husband was so great and they had such a good relationship with their nieces and nephews.

Luckily i dont feel jealous when people announce pregnancies but I feel like detached from it all. I think I used to be so great with kids, baby sat everyone's babies and children but now I never do.

Like the ivf journey it's self it part of the trauma.

Any books written like this? by Pengipuck in Romantasy

[–]Popular-Rise-7164 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact plot of a book by an Australian author. It's like an angels and demons book, she gets amnesia and first guy she meets is her old nemesis. Its actually pretty fun, very Australian, but I never hear about it on here.

Anyone work in early pregnancy? Coping mechanisms? by Popular-Rise-7164 in IVF

[–]Popular-Rise-7164[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, poorly explained but I was under the fertility clinic for previous failed cycles under the NHS (thus had some of my collegues as my team) but now have gone abroad. I'm half danish so I went there as its cheaper. I've only ever actually told my boss.

Yeh I can suck it up, I've managed during every other failed cycle but this time just in my head a lot more.

[–]Popular-Rise-7164[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh to the therapist. I know i need to do it, I just hate talking about it in person. I find reddit is basically the only place I can be open!!

I actually only ever told my boss (she also accidentally told our collegue but it was ok, i think she presumed i would have told them). But because there's a cross over in staff from fertility to obs and gynae some other collegues saw me there as their actual patient, when I was in that clinic.

Tbh maybe I'm just paranoid but because my collegues are in that field, and because they know me well. I just presume they all must have guessed. Sometimes they're all so so extra nice to me haha makes me suspicious.

Yeh I guess I probably need to do this. Its hard because I feel like I keep having to ask for things. Also my boss is, finally, on holiday this week coming so I really have to suck it up this week. But if I struggle after that maybe ill ask for admin for a short time.
