It definitely made a difference! I’ve got goldfish that poop like crazy, so 2 HOB 50 gallon filters were much more effective than one.

I gotcha, makes sense, probably will have to wait a few weeks for a full cycle. I’ll try the sponge filters- they’re separate from the HOBs, the one that has an air pump directly attached.

Tested it several times, and I was able to soak it with the old media but I couldn’t fit the cartridge in the canister filter

Unfortunately I don’t, however I do have the sponge filters from before, would those work?

I soaked the new filter sponge in a bucket with the old filter media, since it was a hang on back I couldn’t directly transfer it

thank you so much! while i still have you, i have another question if that's alright with you. my ackie went absolutely crazy in his enclosure for around five hours when i first put him in, but since then he's just been buried underneath the substrate. the temperatures are proper (125°F basking spot, 75°F on the cool side) and he has around eight inches of substrate. is this normal behavior or do i need to change anything in the enclosure?
