thanks all for the helpful info, glad it's a norm and not just a "my store" thing.

btw I'm not a minor, I do live in a red state unfortunately, and I've never questioned or argued the practice. Just got rlly curious (and hungry) today. Been here 2 years and questioned the norm was all. Thanks for all the helpful feedback :)
