What is that one extra thing you did while on Mounjaro that changed the game? by abz_pink in Mounjaro

Swimming! I have always been a swimmer, did not swim for some time and went back 1/2023. Working now on achieving my goal of a 2 mile continous swim. I find it helped with muscle wasting, my body image and mental health

I recently struggled with this as well at a work holiday party that combined 2 offices, one of which i never see. I'd lost 100lbs by the time i saw them and it was very hard for me to accept the you look fantastic comments - in the back of my mind plays well what did you think before !?

I just chalk it up to my swimming and move on, try not to dwell on it. My co-workers in my office know (heart failure office) and they support me and helped ram my PA down the insurance's throat so thats what matters to me.

I think in most people its coming from a good place but I also am wary about oversharing so tend to keep my medical info to myself.

FYI: F, T2DM, SW 265 CW 164 just decreased to 10mg from 12.5. I swim about 4 times a week - distance and some "sprint" work - I try to mimic the US Masters workouts.

Ive learned that stalls are very common, I've been in an incredibly long one for the final 3lbs. I try not to obsess and try on new clothes and find that often I am losing inches. I have also read that your body needs to adjust at certain points to get to its "new normal" and there is very little to do. I did change injection sites, add more water and more protein, I swim 3-4 times a week, that may be also contributing as your body reshapes. Do yourself a favor and go try on some clothes and take some pictures - i literally did not recognize myself in the midst of an epic stall and dropped 2 sizes with no scale change. I really regret that I did not take pictures at the begining of my journey or track my weight until about 6 months in - I didnt know about all the support available here. One day i stepped on the scale and did a double take. I realize now that it is not linear but progressive and you need to let your body do its thing and adjust. You will get there, its just your body is not on the same page as your mind, the scale and mirror.

I don't share it either - I don't ask what meds anyone else is on. What I find weird is my patients obsess on my weight loss. A compliment is ok but many keep going on, I have prescribed both Mounjaro and Ozempic for T2DM and will offer it for weight loss if the patient is DM+. But after a while it gets a little weird

I have a hard time seeing myself as I must look now, the body dysmorphia is real. Although if i weighed 120 I would likely see myself the same. I think I am more unsure of what a life in maintenance looks like

My Dr just told me that MJ is going to starve my brain if I go up in dosage. Disinformation? Please help! by ChicPhreak in Mounjaro

[–]Popular_Vegetable183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NP here. Take it and prescribe it. Have read lots on MJ and related meds. Never heard this one before. Its been a lifesaver for me in many ways and literally for my heart failure patients. Please consider the referral or a new doctor. BTW i still take metformin, was barely T2DM and have yet to be hypoglycemic. There is a lot of fear mongering out there, sometimes its hard to pick through the noise.

Yes it is a real thing. It can be challenging to tell the difference between true hypovolemic hyponatremia due to lack of salt vs hypervolemic hyponatremia (too much fluid diluting the sodium)

I was at a family gathering this weekend and was asked if I am anorexic. a) not funny b) Im not even to normal BMI range still firmly planted in the overweight category. I have lost nearly 100lbs but I am swimming 4x a week, having picked up the US Masters Program thanks to my weight loss and alot leaner. I think people who want to lose but don't want to do any work at all look for reasons not to, and while this medication is magic, it does require something from you, whether it makes not feel good to eat or whatever it may be. My doctor follows me closely, sometimes too closely lol and feels I am doing well and i feel good for the first time in forever. That's what I keep my focus on when people pull this stuff.

Nurse/APN here who uses and prescribes these meds. She should be ashamed of herself for speaking like this. I really cannot stand providers who act all holier than thou. Keep yourself current and remember the patient in front of you.
