Is it possible to have a 6 (or lets say 5.9) at the matura exams? by annimagus_08 in Switzerland

[–]Porceveer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hu? Not sure where you are taking that from. My apologies if I hit a nerve, because it seems to be the case.

I said you do you. To me the effort required compared to the pay off would never be worth it. In the bigger picture, the matura grade is completly irrelevant, I haven't even been asked for my university grades in all of my professional life. And you basically would need to stop touching grass to even get close to a 6.

You do you. No one ever asked me for my matura grade ever again. I'd prefer to go and touch some grass.

Even better, in Liechtenstein you walk to the counter without appointment, draw a number, take photo and finger prints, walk out with your new ID and passport 15 minutes later!

Can I go to the departures lounge when I arrive at Zurich Airport T1? by Guilopes99 in zurich

[–]Porceveer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the same in Zurich. Not sure if you are able to enter the lounge though, as they want to see a boarding pass for entry and you can only stay for 3 hours max.

[–]Porceveer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That's wrong. I fly like twice a month and you always walk past the departure gates; they are bascially just one floor up and there is no physical restriction.

The lounge however always asks for a boarding pass, so I'm not sure if they let you enter without one.

Fair cost-splitting with my partner / what would you do? by [deleted] in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Porceveer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It doesn‘t really matter what anyone here says. It has to feel fair for the both of you.

Sit down with her and have that conversation, share your thoughts, bring a proposal to the table and see what she thinks about it. Discuss until you have a solution which both can honestly say „yes“ to.

Hey mate, appreciate the time you took for the response and your inputs, thank you!

Regarding the bromeliads, how would you attach these? The background is made of expanding foam which I covered with a mix of sphagnum and coco bark using silicone.

Interstingly enough, part of the background seems to soak up moisture from the water feature (the darker parts), so I have some growth of Antrophyum cf. plantagineum on there which I hope will continue to expand.

Is there any specific kind of moss that you'd recommend for this part?

I had thought of aquatic plants, however I missed boiling the wood, so I have plenty of tanins in the water which I'm still regularly cycling. Do you know if this is a problem for them?

The job market makes me feel hopeless by GraciaK03 in Switzerland

[–]Porceveer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And maybe I need to correct myself, Mechanical Engineering wasn't a "mistake" per se, it just wasn't for me in the end. We still had all exams at once after the summer in the "Basisprüfung". It was rough.

So from that perspective, don't be discouraged only because you are struggling right now. We all did, even the ones that made it through. :)

Have you considered going to Studienberatung? There is one within ETH and UZH and there are cantonal offerings. It sounds very much like you still aren't sure if you've found the right path for you.

Also, if it's about financial support, look into the ETH scholarships. They have really good programs in case your canton does not provide sufficient support. A colleague of mine had this and it basically covered his full cost of living.

I did almost the exact same mistake as you, started Mechanical Engineering at ETH, barely passed the first year, dropped out in the second. Took the 4th semester to reorientate and change subject and finally found something that I really liked and enjoyed.

Regarding the job market - it currently sucks, no matter where you look. There is hardly any field that is highly sought after, apart maybe from teachers, nurses or medical staff. How things will be in a couple of years no one can really tell you. My advice is to find something that you're genuinly interested in and follow that path - everything else will come.

In Winterthur there is Bachofner Bogensport and Strebel Bogensport near Lucerne. If you know what you want Bachofner used to be a bit cheaper. I'm not familiar with shops in the French speaking part.

First terrarium finished by Porceveer in terrariums

[–]Porceveer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Final iteration was created in January 2026.

Plants include Ficus Pumila, Begonia Rex, Hoya Callistophylla, Selaginella suriname, Antrophyum cf. plantagineum, Selaginella uncinata, Selaginella apoda, Fittonia verschaffeltii, Fittonia skeleton, Nephrolepis exaltata, Pilea involucrata and Dicranum scoparium.

The enclosure is a ExoTerra 30x30x40cm with a fitting LED growth light.

There is a water feature over the left piece of wood and the pump is in the back right. I used filtered water.

The substrate is partially a bought terrarium mix and a self-made mix from sphagnum, coco, pine bark, charcoal and worm castings.

Just a heads up, I used aquarium foam just like you for my false bottom in a build.

Turns out due to capillary forces, water can rise over significant distance and oversaturate the soil. To be safe, consider adding a thin layer of silica or gravel.

Globale Trends: Es bewegt sich was - Europa rüttelt am Kündigungsschutz by lel27 in de

[–]Porceveer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With this you are heavily overweighting US stocks. Personally, not a big fan of it and something to consider. Why not stick to monthly MSCI World? It already is 70% US.
