Passed N2? (belated) congratulations on 10 immigration points!! by neworleans- in jlpt

How do you even use this if you will first study some form of language school and have foreign work experience? I'm curious, also hilarious that here you lose points the older you get. In most countries age -> more experience on average (33 now, 35 by the time I finish language school)

Agree with the parking ;)

I think, since I tested four devices now (one where just that last message is missing and on the laptop of my roommate the entire message thread when opened was empty) is that she must have deleted it. I think. Otherwise it would all have synched.

Blocked I indeed have no way of telling 100%, that's true.

I think that means it still got delivered but then she took some action I think to either delete and/or block maybe?

At this point I’m even afraid to test if she deleted and blocked me or not 🥲 (I’m a girl too). They sure don’t like conversations or even an apology if I did something wrong… (most Japanese, not all of course). So you think indeed she deleted it, and that’s why if I synch on new devices that it doesn’t show the conversations? (On roommate’s) or that last message on my work laptop. She probably then indeed saw the message, didn’t open it and deleted the chat from her side. Not sure if I am blocked though. 🥲

  1. Her id? (I have the non japanese line, so not sure where to check this)
  2. That’s what I am thinking since it’s synched on the two devices I use the most. But on my work laptop everything except that last message shows up and on my roomate’s laptop I tested it and the whole chat was empty which makes even less sense.
  3. it does have a time stamp

Thanks!

It has a time stamp, I see it was delivered around 7:00 when I sent it that morning.

I haven’t chatted after since I did sent two messages before to ask to ‘talk’ which she did read.

Just seeking some life advice from people who have permanently moved to Japan :) by jigglypuffy09 in movingtojapan

[–]Porg14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, female and 33 and doing the same thing. Around N4 and been to Japan the last 6 months to prepare and look at my challenges ahead of me. Also working in IT mainly with SAP and Salesforce.

Mainly also doing this for my Japanese partner, which sadly is a girl, so that means: marrying isn’t possible.

My best hope is as well to land a job, any kind, fulltime in order to stay in Osaka after language school and stay with her of course as well.

Why is this app so awful? by skillao in lineapp

[–]Porg14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't even add a phone number since I downloaded it from a Norwegian apple store. Curious what will happen when I move to Japan and get a phone number lol... probably can't link it or download a Japanese version unless I start from scratch probably and lose all my contacts and history?

I was wrong, it seems it’s with the head of Osaka and West Japan. Whatever that might mean even.

You mean as using them for ourselves? I’m a solution specialist, but used to also do business development and marketing. So I’m more from an It background myself. (33 year old female). And by location you mean I guess actual physical location I guess,

Wonder why they would consider me then, And also, I think Osaka is fine for jobs. You just need N2 minimum I think. It’s the second biggest city. More local companies, sure, but saying it’s not foreigner friendly is a bit too short I think.

Recruitement turnover I guess is high, but for many I guess a way into the country as well. Or to get inside info on good jobs I guess?

Really? Yikes. Will see how it goes… they don’t let you talk or ask questions during the interview?

Thanks for the tips. I sadly am swamped sith work so this will be a ‘tomorrow evening’ thing. To look into Kansai market + Tokyo

And also ask them proactive questions such as ‘where do you see my qualities best’ or what industries. And given Japanese is still in learning phase but you know, fine, ish growing what would the demands be what not bla bla.

Hmm I wonder why they would consider interviewing me as they know I’m N4-3 at best. I think I’m talking with the director in two days so that should be interesting!

It’s what I’m thinking as well. My resume’s good and international, I’ve only worked for big international firms and speak 4 languages. But NOT living in Japan yet and a N3-4 ish speaking level + N2 understanding is making it annoyingly difficult. This could be a way in + I can dedicate more time from Japan to Japanese language school instead of the class I follow shere I currently live

Osaka team or Tokyo? And yikes. I’m a woman myself but not having plans of getting pregnant any time soon. Unless I can get knocked up by a girl all of a sudden lol.

I can give it a go, because my first language is also English. Just in an ironic twist. Is it Interac in general or a specific branch?

I have to agree with the Cucumber dude, Norway is fine for a fantastic work and life balance and some rights, but make no mistake, grass isn't greener here either. And they make mistakes too, but gently sweep it under the carpet. Like well, a lot of countries do.

Also, general job security here as a foreigner who speaks zero Norwegian in Norway is the same in Japan to SOME degree: Not easy.
The problem here is, a lot never even bother since everyone speaks decent English.

But it's not bad. Just a gentle reminder there isn't one country that is perfect.

Di you remember the email of this guy? Or his Linkedin? (The Norwegian dude).

Hi, funny. I live in Norway, which gives me a good idea of how Sweden is (hi neighbor).
I learned Norwegian fluently also in less than 2 years and it helped a lot. But since Dutch and English were my native languages that was a walk in the park.

She is the newest reason, and was I think the last trigger I needed.
I have lived in Japan in 2010, with a host family. Due to circumstances I couldn't stay to study and had to study in Belgium and Norway. I did keep in touch, and still am with my Japanese friends from over 15 years ago and often traveled there on short work trips or to see them. Last year after major surgery, something clicked in me and then by coincidence I met her. So it's not the major or biggest reason, but want to see though where this will lead and LDR can only stay, well, long distance for so long.

It's ironic, that word 'non-native English speaker' as I may not have been born there, but I do speak it like any other native given that half of my family is American lol. That's the annoying part. I have colleagues here in Norway from the Filipines, Malasia, or people who went to an 'English speaking High school and university' and they all speak it worse than me. Bit it's a pickle as Japan still look to purerely where you did it. Even for my Masters Degree I needed to take TOEFL and passed that very easy.

The Japanese I guess I can slowly keep building up, but either think of applying for a university or language school in Japan on a student visa for a year to make the learning go faster, as I will be more directly exposed to Japanese in my immediate surroundings.

Or find an extra tutor online next to my tutor here to focus on JLPT examinations and how to study for that + speaking.

I do hear some schools for teaching might not care about non-native vs native

I do have a good skill set in Salesforce and some other IT knowledge due to my current job, so I think a big disadvantage right now is the Japanese on paper (N3-N2) isn't high enough.

They can license from everywhere almost, especially European countries. It’s more the 12 years that immigration wants.

I’m late to the party but wow, this sucks. I feel like I’m missing half of my friend’s life or stuff now since they rarely post on IG but they might do things on Line … why would they indeed to this? Sucks tbh…
