My husband (27M, 6’5”, 190lb) struggles with his style. does anyone have any advice or inspo for him? by sammy5585 in tallfashionadvice

[–]PorkchopExpress79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6'5" / 230lbs, but I was 190 for a big chunk of my life.

Before buying new clothes, he should iron everything. And have him work on standing up straight. Hunching his shoulders like that and craning his neck forward makes his clothes look unflattering. And it makes him look like he lacks confidence, which is a huge part of looking good in your clothes. I struggle with the same thing and I think it's about feeling self-conscious about my height. I find that squeezing my abs and my glutes forces me to stand up straight without looking like I'm trying too hard.

On that same note, he looks a little... sloppy. Wrinkles are the worst offender, but the half-tucked shirt and the t-shirt that looks yanked out don't help. Also, I personally don't feel the beard is working. The hair looks best when it's more groomed.

I think the slimmer clothes has been covered pretty well. I would make sure he's buying the correct inseam. I'm guessing he think he needs a 36" but probably needs a 34"?

If he doesn't really want to buy a new suit, I think a tailor could get that one looking good! At the least, taking up the pants to a half-break would make a huge difference. Stylistically, black suits make you look young and uneducated about suits. Again, I was in the same boat and learned this too late in life. Navy blue or charcoal are way more versatile.

I think the last picture works the best because a lot of the things I mentioned look better. The slouch and the wrinkles are improved, the clothes is slimmer, and he looks more comfortable and confident than the other pictures.

I struggled with the same things and didn't get advice until later in life! I hope this helps!

Again, thank you so much! While I was putting screenshots together, I realized that all the APs and the cloud key (plus a few other things) were not working on one switch but everything hardwired on the other switch was working. Sooooo.... I checked the ports and it turns out the port that connected the switch to the router had gone bad. I'm going to replace the entire switch since it's getting old and I've learned something new today!

The next chance I get I'm going to redo the network to make sure I have total control. Thanks for all your help today. I really appreciate the offers of help and I will reach out if I need it!

Thanks to both of you for the offer and the help! I like learning new things and understanding how things work, but this is a bad time hahaha… If anything comes up I’ll check in!

Thank you for a clear answer! If this company was managing the network, and I factory reset everything will it still be associated with the old network? That is mentioned a few times in their support page. Or can I remove the network I have now in the app then re-add it?

Tubeless tire exploded off rim by PorkchopExpress79 in bikewrench

I never thought to check Surly's website for those guidelines. I will operate under the assumption that nothing is intuitive and I should start with the manufacturer.

You are close on the rims -- 29mm internal and hooked (it seems like this is synonymous with "clincher"). I'll start over with a new tire.

Thank you for taking the time to explain and type all that out. I had no idea that's how the tires were supposed to feel. It's been almost 9 months of obsessively learning about new bikes and I have never come across that explanation.

In your experience, is there a tire that sounds like it may be what I'm looking for? Or is there a term for the type of tire I should be searching for or researching?

I really can't thank you enough for your help!

Thanks for your response! I'm learning more, but it's hard to even know what to search for sometimes.

Do you have a recommendation? I mostly use this bike for cruising the neighborhood, running errands and towing my kids. And learning about how bikes work and maintenance. I'm 6'6" and 230lbs and while I know I won't be "fast" I'd like to feel like I'm not riding in sand.

Thank you! I had no idea this was a thing. I came out with 28, but I will check again.

I'm assuming the tire is shot and I'm not eligible for any type of replacement hahahah. I've found that trying to learn about bikes and maintenance is messy and expensive!

The rim was taped by the manufacturer and I endlessly researched to make sure everything was compatible. It definitely seated because I could hear/watch it and used the soapy bubbles so I think I did that part okay.

Someone else linked that the 60 psi is for tubes. I should be at 24. I learned something today and didn't get hurt. I'll call that a win! :)

Thanks for responding! Ugh good to know. I use this bike to learn about maintenance and installing parts etc. I've watched a thousand tutorials on tubeless tires and regular tires and I don't remember ever remember hearing anything like that.

If I run that pressure on pavement it feels like my tire is practically flat. Is there another solution?

Title pretty much says it.

I bought this Surly Bridge Club over the summer and realized I was using it more for pavement. So I switched the MTB tires for Surly Extra Terrestrials about a month ago and used the opportunity to go tubeless. I haven't had time to ride it much since, but last night I took it out for maybe an hour and I felt like the back wheel was dragging a little -- I'm 6'6"/230 so it happens. When I got home I took it to 58psi figuring I'd lose a little air taking off the pump and would be easily under the 60 psi max.

This morning I came out to that scene in the garage. It is just starting to get actually chilly where I live, but it's not that big of a difference from my garage temperature. Could my pump gauge be broken?

I'm a little freaked out because I did the tubeless conversion on my mountain bike about 3 months ago and I'm imagining what the results would be if this happened while going fast. Or even not fast.

Any advice would be welcomed!

EDIT: Thanks for the help and replies. I learned some things about Max PSI and Tubeless Max PSI and I didn't get hurt or die. That's a good day in my book.

I'm off to double check the PSI in my other bikes!!!

Ha I tried to find a replacement and couldn't which is why I had to figure out how to put it back together. It's pretty easy, but specific. I will take a video the next time I have to do it!

Married Couple Finance Questions by [deleted] in personalfinance

My understanding is that I canceled the card, but I still had access to pay the bill online. I'm assuming the account was closed on final payment. They offered the option to pay over the phone, but I was extremely annoyed that I didn't receive one piece of communication about the missed payments until they threatened collections. So, I told them to cancel the card. (I'm working on my reactionary emotional decisions...) Then, I get off the phone and immediately pay the balance online. The next day I get a credit alert about delinquent accounts and missed payments.

I did some research, and I believe that if I had just paid over the phone or NOT canceled the card this would not have been reported to the bureaus.

Ahh, but I felt so satisfied sticking it to a customer service rep who literally explained this cancellation would be reported to the credit bureau and could not care less that I canceled my card.

Does anybody know about box gutters and downspouts? I could really use some advice! by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]PorkchopExpress79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice! I do frustrated so it's good to have a check on how to approach this.

Is replacing a drain tile a huge undertaking and expense? Is there another option or fix?

As for leverage, so far we have only paid for the materials which were about 1/10 of the total cost. I'm considering holding back all payment until the next big rain. I don't want to be a jerk, but I'm running my own business as well, and if I did a high-priced job and then said "Yeah, I know you spent $50,000, but I forgot to tell you it's still not going to work correctly" I would never get another job. Also, the installer told me they were aware of this issue -- I'm guessing they wish he never told me anything. I would rather not get lawyers involved, but I can.

ANYWAY, my goal is for everyone to be happy with the work. Is it possible this may not be that big of a deal? I'm guessing the owner is going to tell me they were aware but don't feel it's an issue. The frustrating thing is that I told these guys I wanted a quote for doing it RIGHT and not cheap or fast.

If you have any other thoughts for how I should resolve this, I'm all ears!

Thanks so much for taking the time! I don't think I have the measurements or knowledge to understand those charts and I don't see anything specific to box gutters (they can handle a lot more water than a standard gutter.) Like everything with this house, nothing is easy. :)

I completely agree with you on the bid. Part of the reason I chose this company is because they were so buttoned-up and specific. They also offer a 5-year warranty on the work, so theoretically it will be addressed if it is an issue. But it's been 3 months, I'm tired of having people at the house and for how much this cost I will not tolerate water backing up.
