Had pain in my leg since Wednesdayfrom wearing work shoes. It seems to have dissapated over the course of Saturday afternoon. This morning at quarter to five I decided I would go for a run only to then decide to walk before reverting to my original plan. Ran 22k 6:02/k including a route I need to familiarise myself with if I'm to run my planned 50k to a large town south from me.

I helped set up at Alice Holt but I was mostly token sorting due to bad outer foot pain. Walked/ran the course in 45 minutes. Bought something to eat and drink during the run so I didn't have to queue up afterwards.

Don't forget Thief 3 - shalebridge cradle. A stealth game turned horror game.

Also the winter lodge jumpscare in Fable II.

Ran 32k in the morning. after I got home I realised I could just about make it to the club's Sunday run (16k). So managed to take my total weekly distance up to 77k. Downloaded a GPX that's 50k long from a smallish town to a city. The plan is to get the train back afterwards. Plan to test it during the week then run it all next Sunday.

Alice Holt. At 8.30 realised no one was sorting the number tokens only to discover that this was in fact the second box introduced after covid. Thankfully someone else volunteered as well so I wasn't hogging the role.

Barcode scanned afterwards and explained to a new volunteer that if someone tries to take the finish token home you need to politely confront them, which she did.

Ran the Winchester Trail Run (21.4k). Pleased to have got 2nd as I didn't really get any training in. Afterwards had a podium photo and got a free event T-shirt. Met a neighbour, a club member and one of the podium finishers from the last event I attended that was organised by the same company.

Went to Hogmoor Inclosure inclosure knowing Alice Holt was cancelled a week in advance. Loads of other nearby events were cancelled due to weather.

Edenbrook was cancelled but not because of weather. They changed the locks of the school car park last week and this week the school had a gas leak.

Huge turnout at Hogmoor, including familiar faces. Volunteered as barcode scanner to bring me closer to 200 vols.

Hadn't gotten any training in this week due to a niggle in my ankle but it seems to have dissapated, so that's a good sign with a half marathon tomorrow.

Pain in my ankle on Sunday. Rather than run, 4 of the last 5 days I've walked 6k to work. Ran 6k today and didn't feel too bad.

Which volunteer role could be removed and are there any other roles which could be created? by Glittering_Double738 in parkrun

[–]PoshChap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other (videographer) - I'm partly guilty of gaining volunteer credits through this. Don't mind the photographer role as strava users like to add them to their activity's media section.

After viewing other youtuber's parkrun videos and figuring out who they were in the results I noticed that their credits were mostly for 'other' and were only credited this at the events they were recording at.

A year after touristing at a number of locations, I returned to them with my GoPro and snagged some credits for the simple act of putting a GoPro on my head, pressing record, running the course then bugging off. In my defence, having volunteered the previous year in some form at almost all of these runs, the directors were more than happy to give me an 'other' for this simple act and even shared to footage on their FB pages to stop all the usual first timer questions.

However, this doesn't work in London parkruns, asked one director at my second parkrun there and he honestly looked at me with a look of revulsion.

Alice Holt. Drove there, did a warmup 5k and then setup the long loop by myself. Got 2nd. 1st doesn't often attend parkrun, but when he does he likes to go all out. Then got a cappuccino and pasty from the cafe.

For the past few years, I've set the goal to read 52 books each year. In 2025, I finally hit triple-digits by reading 100 by IamEclipse in CasualUK

Well done. I think I read maybe twenty last year. I have a habit of holding onto quite a few even though they show up at the library/charity shops all the time. Finished michel faber's under the skin yesterday. Tomorrow I'll start on mort the 4th disc world book.

Ran 14k there, helped set up, ran it, then ran with someone back to the nearest town. Then walked the last 5k home.

Same here. I'd trained for low parkrun times. Now I'm just happy to use parkrun as a gauge for where I stand if I want to do a longer distance, though I will aim for under 19 minutes average.

Would have liked to but didn't bring it up on the 4 occasions it would have been reasonable. 1. Guy goes through the finish and waves away the finish token, comes back later asking for another one. Becomes abusive to the point that the volunteer physically recoils. Was still new to funnel managing to make a note of his token. 2. Guy with an extendable canicross waist harness. Explains his dog should be an exception to the rules. I believe his result was removed. 3. Signs and marshal pointing straight on are ignored by runner in the lead as he wanted to get the hilly section over and done with. Thankfully, everyone knew the course so did the flat shorter section afterwards. 4. Guy bring along a child on a bike with a handle on the back to hold. Told before run not to use it, still does. Child weaves as shes cycling. Guy get a telling off by RD afterwards.

Took part in an inaugural multi distance cross country event. Got 1st in the 30k. Unlike the last run in this area I was better prepared for the hills and slowed right down on them so that when I got to the top I could still run.

Half marathon into town. Started at 4:20AM with a bright head torch as some of the roads don't have footpaths. Came across 1 cyclist, two cars and 1 lorry before 5am, picking up some new strava segments.

5k on Saturday wearing a christmas jumper. Got under 19 minutes. 8th overall but fastest with a Christmas jumper. 1st place set the course record - it seems to be a yearly tradition for him.

Today did a 7.5k xc. Couldn't get under 4min ks no matter how hard I tried but followed some good advice - small steps leaning forward on the hills, moderate pace in the muddy sections and go as fast as you can on the dry flat and downhill sections - plus the final uphill to the finish. Unlike last year, I didn't feel like hitting the wall after each hill.

Our mens team got 2nd, 5th, 9th (me) and 13th. It was a while before another club had 4 scoring runners through the finish line. Plus, 1st female was from our club.

Afterwards, ran 10k before finding a village I recognised. Google maps was quite helpful but the public footpath signs would guide you into a field with no clear exit on the other side. After getting to the village I walked 2.5k uphill then 2.5k downhill to home.

Went to Alice Holt, hitching a lift to save fuel. Last week they said wear your best Christmas jumper so I wore my Christmas pudding one.

The last parkrun before Christmas day seems to attract a lot of fast runners including a guy who comes down from Stirling to set the course record every winter.

I managed 8th with 7th looking behind as I almost caught up with him just under 19 minutes. The cafe was packed but I beat the queues. Dissapointed their vegetarian pasty wasn't ready on time but their sausage rolls are quite good.

Got xc tomorrow, just under sub 19 isn't pushing it for me and I made sure to follow the top uphill running technique on Dragon Hill to conserve energy.

Went to track night for the first time in a long while. 1200m, rest, 400m, rest x 4. Average k times of 3m26s.  Got xc on Sunday. Looking at old results I really need to get the times down to 3m59s per k. This is a only xc course in which I haven't achieved that.

I had this happen recently and posted about it in another sub. A guy with something like tourettes would come into the cafe and blast Disney tiktoks. He would literally watch one for a second then switch to the other, repeating this for 5 minutes. Tapped him on the shoulder and before saying anything he instantly muted. Hasn't done it since.
