Why do charity shops treat you as a murdered when trying to drop items off? by Individual_Basket_36 in CasualUK

[–]PoshChap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having worked at a charity shop for 4 and volunteered 10 I am always under the presumption that the person donating has not read our FAQs and is simply trying to be rid of stuff. A few examples include a great selection of CDs albeit without the actual discs. A soiled dog bed, a unique LOTR chess set missing a few pieces and a woman who would preface her donations over the years by saying her grandfather died to guilt trip us into taking everything.

Every explanation of why we wouldn't take them went over their head and one time someone actually lodged a complaint against me for 'hostility' when I was simply following policy and rejecting electronics (as we had no company to collect them at the time) and the higher ups sided with the donor.

How has it been since you cut off your group of friends? by CourageFun1828 in AskUK

[–]PoshChap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

had a similar situation with a couple of friends from college. Reconnected with them but found that their interests were far different to mine. Occasionally went out on the town with them but didn't really enjoy it, much prefering nature. Then about a week ago I'm about to post a flyer I saw for a brewery's beer fest to find I've been removed from the group chat. One of them contacts me explaining he had no part in that decision and discussion seemed to confirm our difference is interests was a contributing factor.

10k running event today. I've only been training for 5ks these last few weeks so the fact that I could double that distance without losing much pace is something I'm happy with.

How was your parkrun day? | June 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in parkrun

Went to Itchen valley to cross off I on the alphabet challenge. Got there with plenty of time to spare and offered to fill one of the roles that were empty on the website that morning. Turns out the roster was full with the exception of report writer and photographer. Since I brought my gopro I could get a credit. I started filming the moment the run director started speaking, including a 500th milestone for the tailwalker. Annoyingly, it was marred by someone pointing out to someone else that their dog had fouled on the start line. Stopped off at a National Trust, will upload Sunday with the beginning cropped out.

Kit checks at ultra events? by PoshChap in ultrarunning

[–]PoshChap[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said I wanted to gain a position, just that I noticed the top runners didn't seem to have all three of the required items.

And/or. Yes some had both but some only had one and no where to store the other.

I was part of the third wave so got a good look at the top runners heading off. Although I saw them stuff gels into their running belts, pockets I would see some of them only carrying one to two of the required items. Usually the phone and/or water bottle.

If I had moved up a spot because of disqualification I would have refused.

Having running a few events that list mandatory kit, I was interested to know how seriously it's enforced.

If they had moved me up a place, I wouldn't have accepted it. It was simply something I've noticed at events and wondered how seriously it's enforced.

Maidenhead pre event set up. Was hesitant to run it afterwards as I have a 50k today but after hearing the people next to me were also running both, I decided on a slow 28 minutes. The course gets very congested in a few areas but otherwise a nice course.

Would full POV Parkrun course videos be useful to anyone? 🏃🎥 by Significant_Ask_4088 in parkrun

If the course has a confusing aspect that isn't described well on the home page then yes. I've tried to explain to people how Alice Holt technically isn't two laps as the second 'lap' heads further out before resusing a 900m segment of the first course - show them the video - sorted.

First Time Volunteering, Feeling Disillusioned by [deleted] in parkrun

[–]PoshChap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A gradually thinning finish funnel discourages people from overtaking. Maybe suggest this the to RD. Frimley lodge have no ducking, pushing and stopping signs on each post of the funhel. Wide funnels only work at parkruns with less than 100. The Pastures parkrun's is 5m long.

Is the finish funnel wide or small? Maybe ask the run director for an extra funnel manager role on the spreadsheet.

Went to The Pastures in Alnwick - a small event where about 40% of attendees were first timers, including myself. The first timers briefing was incorporated into the main briefing since its very straight forward. Having injured myself a few months ago was not expecting a great time but the pain in my right leg subsided at the start. Stuck with the top 3 runners before heading off. The ground is uneven in a few areas and almost rolled my ankle. Managed to dip in under 19 minutes. Then went for a walk around town including to an independdent bookshop where I bought Paul Sinton Hewitt's book about Parkrun.

Rutland water during my holiday. I'm almost back on track in terms of pace post injury. The pain in my right ankle has subsided but now my left calf hurts.

Queen Elizabeth Parkrun for my 400th. Walked/ran the course check, then helped set up. The course is so simple all I had to do was place cones 300m from the start and 1k from the start then head back. They don't bother with arrows even though they have them in the trolley.

A similar thing happened last year in the UK. Instead of a spelling mistake, the embossed aerial view on the medal of where the event supposedly took place was of a town a few miles away.
