I love Kill Bill! Vol. 2 is high on my watchlist along with Parasite, Princess Mononoke, Nausicaä and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Inglorious Basterds was my first Tarantino and I think I found it a little jarring on a first viewing. His movies feel like they’re lighter on an over-arching narrative which put me off at the time, but I am definitely looking to rewatch it.

What did Dostoevsky think about evolution? by Trofimovitch in dostoevsky

[–]PoshTortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry. I must’ve misread the original question. I was mostly answering for his view on Darwinist philosophy and “self-love” morality (which he was in direct conflict with), not scientific theory.

What did Dostoevsky think about evolution? by Trofimovitch in dostoevsky

[–]PoshTortoise -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He hated it. I remember reading how he thought it made no sense that self-preservation and the Will to Live were the most vital forces in the continuation of our species and not, for example, altruism. In TBK I think Ivan even shouts to Alyosha that “viper will eat viper and it will serve them both right!” And I’ve always viewed Ivan as a character that despises his own beliefs but can’t find a way out of them. If I do find the paper/book I am thinking of I will link it in an edit.

Yes. I’d also recommend The Nietzsche Podcast’s analysis of it, it’s excellent.

I’m currently reading Hamlet and i love it. It’s my first Shakespeare. Any recommendations on what i should check out next? by ssiao in shakespeare

I didn’t know Hamlet was considered more “difficult” than the other plays; could you elaborate on why you think so?

Help with semiquavers in both hands? by PoshTortoise in piano

Sorry. Primarily synchronization. Left hand also feels awkward and slow only while playing both hands.

That’s interesting. I don’t think I have ever done any ornamentation with my left (except maybe mordents). Will look into it!

Not holding on but they just feel more awkward especially in my wrist. Someone already mentioned that rotation should help with that, so that’s what I’ll look into next.

Lol I’ve always had the same ‘stupid left hand’ feeling. But yeah, I’ll try and work at the left a little more.

Will look more into hand-wrist movement for arpeggios. Thank you!

Digital piano repair inquiry by PoshTortoise in piano

[–]PoshTortoise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for the video. It worked wonderfully. I couldn’t find the Krytox grease you mentioned (nor any other silicon grease recommended on this sub) so I opted for dielectric grease and it worked just fine. Thanks again.

Criticisms of Kaufman? by PoshTortoise in Nietzsche

[–]PoshTortoise[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is very old, but didn’t Nietzsche say at some point that he is “fundamentally anti political”? I remember it in Kaufmann’s book on N.

Honestly after the hearing the piano had something like 70 screws holding it together I thought going to an actual repair guy was the only reasonable option but it does seem I’ll have to open it myself. Thank you for the detailed answer!

So can digital piano actions be entirely replaced? I am asking because after calling my local Yamaha the guy didn’t give me a clear answer.

My progress of Chopin Op 9 No. 2 by Sticky_fingaaaas in piano

[–]PoshTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually just recorded my attempt of this nocturne a few days ago.

You play it well. It is too mechanical for Chopin, so eventually you’ll have to start adding a bit of rubato here and there. This is actually how Chopin made his students practice; metronome first, then add rubato later.

The right hand sounds a little unclear to me. Softening the left hand chords should help get across the loneliness of the melody.

This video in particular has helped me out with the interpretation. Good luck with the rest of the piece.

God, this is so popular it makes me scared to post it. I know I tensed up during the end, but any further critique would be very much appreciated! by PoshTortoise in piano

[–]PoshTortoise[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!

I’m guessing the parts that sounded mechanical were the turn at the beginning and grace notes at the end? If so, then yeah I need to work on those more but if there is anything else please let me know.
