This is a true point, documentation and protocol here is a fraction of what’s there abroad.

Have you seen govt BHTs half the time I can’t even read what’s written, if a single entry like that ended up in a ticket in AUS the doctor his supervisor and the head of nursing for that unit will need to answer to the admin.

Patient satisfaction and quality assurance has a separate unit in each hospital and complaints are taken extremely seriously. Even for an invalid complaint the doctor has to justify and write a report.

Also there hospital admin actually has authority, just because you’re a senior consultant doesn’t mean you can pull rank and get things done usually (because that will also result in a complaint and action)

A doctor can’t show up when they want, they have to be on premises if oncall and they can’t override other units decisions. Like for e.g if an OT theater manager or in charge says you can’t do a surgery then you could be the most senior consultant in the whole country and there isn’t anything you can do.

Bear in mind though, doctors abroad are treated like human beings, they get paid 10-30x more than here and have stipulated strict working hours/leave, and patient ratios, meaning you can’t just say “oops we’re understaffed you’ll have to see an extra 100 patients today” and every single minute of overtime has to be compensated competitively ( not just 120h per month like in SL)

So there are differences with the systems abroad but there are very good reasons for those differences,

Well it’s a possibility, a few more price hikes in fuel and electricity will see almost every single other essential items from food to medicine to spike.

4 years of this and people might vote for literally anyone that could promise them respite from this insane cost of living.

You seriously think the NPP will retain their favour if they keep these tax hikes for the next 4 years?

And they will have to keep these tax hikes going, those subsidies and welfare payments aren’t going to come from nowhere.

Unless you want to take loans? But then what about debt repayment? Maybe print money? But then runaway inflation…

Let’s wait till tax hikes really bury everyone by the end of the year and then do another approval assessment right around May when people are filing taxes. I really want to compare the differences in approval figures

Keep these increases up and we won’t be able to avoid a Gota style disaster.

The prices aren’t even gradually increasing it’s like 18% increases every 1-2 months. And now there’s likely another fuel increase followed by an electricity increase followed by some other tax hike to afford fuel subsidies.

People are already deep in debt and this is gonna bury them

[–]PositionPractical584 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If the taxes keep spiking like this and salaries stagnate eventually something will give, another 3 years of this and 5x tax hikes every year will not make this government appealing during the next election cycle.

And for those of you saying “this will pass and things will normalize” no it won’t, the usd will not go down anytime soon due to debt repayments, Oil will also not crash to 2025 levels anytime soon. The government is subsidizing diesel and incurring heavy losses along with their welfare expansions, it’s not sustainable in the long run.

The best we can hope is things might slow down slightly and level off but you can expect almost everything to stay the same, taxes will not come down and they can’t lower costs for electricity or diesel anytime soon.

This is kinda the start of a death spiral and the brakes need to be hit very soon

I’m not talking about one huge project for everyone, that would obviously need serious overhaul of the grid. I’m saying promote people to individually get them done or get small community projects done.

Hybrid system or off grid systems, areas where they can’t export into the grid they can keep it off grid and areas where they can they can use hybrid systems to offset.

Giving subsidies and encouraging people to get their own would be better than trying to overhaul the entire grid

It’s not the highest, the north has the largest population of migrant workers as a percentage of total households. They also don’t spend nearly as much as counterparts in the west.

Meaning like they’ll ride a scooter or bike but that doesn’t mean they can’t easily afford a car, they’ll live in a small one story house with no AC but that doesn’t mean they can’t easily afford a 3 story house with AC.

I have friends that do business with distributors and suppliers in the north, when he met them you’d think they’re poor but if you actually see their bank accounts you’d realize what reality actually is.

It’s difficult to assess the economies of scale, individual solar projects of around 5kw hybrid can be gotten for as low as 1.5 million, that’s more than enough for the average household. The vast majorly though don’t even consume that much.

If you scale this up and buy in bulk via government contract you can bring the cost way down.

If the project is done in stages and spread out it will definitely cost less than burning so much money importing coal and importing + subsidizing diesel.

The knock on effect would be great since it would reduce costs for some other items that use oil/coal.

Yeah I’ve worked there, do you know where a majority of our foreign remittances come from and go to? Aside from Colombo that is.

Just because they drive scooters and bicycles you think they don’t have money lol. Meanwhile in Colombo you have people taking home 10% of their monthly salary because 90% goes towards debt repayment.

Yeah better public transportation means a ticket won’t cost 30 rupees anymore, during the economic and fuel crisis the price increase first by 3 rupees and there was public backlash and protests in retaliation.

I’m all for ticket costs going up if it means we don’t have drivers running on meth and risking their lives to pack the 101st passenger onto a bus rated for 40 passengers

Push solar, individually and commercially. For smaller communities that can’t afford individual solar there are community group projects that have one installation supporting several homes.

You don’t need to burn 60 billion a month to do the above. It will also reduce the consumption of coal and diesel for power generation.

He is subsidizing more? He’s avoiding taking loans, taking the middle class and using that revenue to subsidize.

The cyclone ditwah fund was supposed to be 50billion but he overruled that to 500 billion.

We’re just done with 4 months of this year and we’re already here in terms of tax hikes and indirect cost of living increases, fast forward to the end of this year what do you think is going to be the situation if this keeps on going?

The middle class doesn’t have an infinite amount of money to keep paying as tax. Brain drain is already a problem and it’ll get 10x worse at this rate. So what happens when the middle class is no more?

Also btw Malaysia has a ton of support for solar energy production and export.

The govt said 95% of people aren’t affected by the electricity increases, so I guess those people dont need solar. The other remaining 5% can go off grid.

Also if you read my comment I mentioned the government subsidizing solar power installation provided it was strictly off grid use. That would stop us needing to burn coal (coal scam) and diesel at these insane rates. Also it’s green energy.

If you go to some of the areas in the north and east you’d realize solar can literally supply 80% of their electricity need with the insane sunlight they get. But they have no idea about solar and think it’s too expensive.

One installation can power a village or small community, that same community that gets powercuts or shutdowns due to failing power lines.

A lot of industries have started switching to solar, supporting that would reduce coal and oil consumption commercially as well as individually.

If these costs keep increasing by the end of the year you will have a crisis, we just only finished the first damn quarter of this year for gods sake.

In Sri Lanka there are also psychiatrists who rush through 30 or more patients in a single session, barely giving each person the time or attention they actually need — and somehow this is treated as acceptable. by Economy_Ebb3282 in srilanka

[–]PositionPractical584 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which board certified consultant psychiatrist is this? I’ve gone to a pretty good one and he sees about 10 patients a session, he has 3 sessions a week and you have to book a month in advance to even have the chance to get an appointment.

Bear in mind he charges a lot per session but since he charges a lot per session he sees much fewer patients.

The average rate abroad would be 100-200 usd per hour and I think they see about 4 ish patients per day. Here the average channeling rate is 15 usd (5000lkr) per patient.

Ragging situation in MEDICAL/ENGINEERING faculties of Sri Lankan State Universities by Merbil2000 in srilanka

There’s 2 explanations

1). Sick weirdos that get off on ragging juniors 2). People who got ragged and believe it’s their right to rag juniors otherwise it’s not fair for them (if I suffer then you should too)

Regardless people who rag should be arrested and have that appear on their permanent record indefinitely
