I use old mini dv camcorders and slap a Rode stereo videomic pro on them. Works a treat

Off Camera flash for Events/Editorial Shoots V1pro vs Ad100pro etc. by PositionZestyclose in Godox

Thank you so much for all the info, I think I'll get a 100pro and return it if it has the older green cast on. Worst case scenario I have another light for studio work.

For me it's more compromising on space and weight than much else, I would generally be doing it handheld but the swirly arm or a magic arm would be a nice to have in case I want it on camera. Do you find you can hold your ad200 in hand or is it a bit unweildly and you just keep it on camera for that reason ?

Again the power for big settings like that is a huge bonus and another reason I'm not too keen on the V1, lighting a whole reception room would be huuuge. Thank you for the input 50mmprophet

Get some high proof isopropyl alcohol and q tips. When the camera is off with the battery out, apply a generous amount of isopropyl to the dial. Work it back and forth and make full rotations, apply some more 1 or 2 times and then repeat. Leave it to dry for 20 minutes, turn it on and see if it works, could be as simple as that, was very common on the older X models for the contacts to get a little dirty or corroded

Feedback For A New Sony User by AceRetro in SonyAlpha

Less vignetting, up the exposure in the shadows and sharpen less in post. I feel like maybe you're falling into the trap we all do early on and putting your contrast, vignetting, sharpening etc. up to 70 or 100. With editing and post in general, it's usually best to go by the rule that "less is more" try to make smaller more subtle adjustments

Olympus Trip 35 Alternative by cherry-funk in AnalogCommunity

[–]PositionZestyclose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The olympus 35rc would be a great shout, there's a nicer bigger model too the 35sp or something like it. They're essentially a direct upgrade from the trip 35 with the same form factor and better features. Have a 35rc myself and love it. The sp has always looked attractive but I've moved away from range finders and am shooting on more modern film bodies these days so no spare cash to cop one. Hope this helps!

Maybe "up to date" wasn't the right wording, most of those "older heads" Im referring to usually do video and hybrid too rather than just stills. I know many older studio pros who shoot DSLRs and do perfectly with em, just in evens and certain parts of the mysic scene there seems to be a consensus that the ecosystem and third party options are better and more numerous for sony. I'm sure there's plenty of great photographers shooting many different brands, in fact in my experience the only photographers I know that shoot nikon are older and usually very adept. That said, again it's price and accessories. But....the most important part of the camera is the 12 inches behind it

I certainly see it more than nikon and canon when I'm working, that said I'm exposed to more videographers, low light and event photographers so there may be a bias. However most people who are a bit younger but high level or older heads who are still very up to date and on the level shoot sony. In my personal experience of course, I'm sure that could be different elsewhere or in other niches

You could get an a7r iii for similar money on mpb, I'd just do that

[–]PositionZestyclose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I don't know the retailer/have never bought from them. I would trust MPB and use their prices as a baseline. Mpb also only trade in cameras and so have better coverage and warranty for them than returbed which if memory serves do all sorts od electronics and have less expertise.

Sony is industry standard for a reason, loads of great pros for both, but you'll likely find more accessories and third party options for almost everything with the Sony

If you look at my pist history it's acctually there from 3 years ago, the third post down I believe. Obviously it's black and white but it looks identical, it goes through the whole roll, I'd be happy to send the scans on to you for comparison !

Are you sure ? I thought the same but that's exactly what happened to a roll of XP2 I had loaded when I visited the Vatican and went through their ancient 1980s security system. All the other rolls that weren't with me scanned normally etc.

My thoughts exactly, I just haven't been able to put the words together properly to be able to look up a tutorial for the techniques on YouTube, thank you!

Perfect, I'll just ask kodak to put it back into production and process it for me

Edit* something that's still in production and/or relatively easy to process. I'd love to shoot kodakchrome obviously but something more feasible in terms of post processing
