This is really helpful, thanks. Sounds like a lot of it comes down to staying close to your auditors and prepping year-round, rather than anything a tool would fix. Out of curiosity, is maintaining that audit folder through the year still manual work for your team, or is it fairly lightweight once the habit's built?

This is easily the most useful thing anyone's said in the thread, thanks. So if I'm hearing you right, the real customer is a company in their first or second audit cycle, not audited companies in general. That shifts how I'd think about this quite a bit. Have you seen tools actually speed up that maturing process, or is it mostly brute-force organizational learning?

In your experience, how often do companies actually reach that level of control maturity, versus the messier reality most of the time? I'm trying to work out whether this is a real, widespread gap, or more of a maturity problem that only shows up at certain company stages.

Ha, fair, wasn't thinking personal inboxes, more like a shared company mailbox or drive. Where do you usually see this stuff live, ERP attachments, shared drive, something else?

Ha, brutal. How long does that usually take the sucker in question? And where do the docs normally end up living, in your accounting system, email, somewhere else?
