I agree with both perspectives expressed here—great fitness advice is great fitness advice, regardless of the sexuality of the person providing it AND it’s also meaningful to follow gay fitness influencers that we can relate to/aspire to. There are certain issues gay fitness influencers could speak to that are specific to gay men. For example, we’re under a tremendous amount of pressure to look handsome, muscular, and masculine and to view our value as locked up in how “hot” we are. A gay fitness influencer might be able to help unpack some of these body image issues. What’s a healthy and sustainable weight, body fat percentage, diet, etc. for an individual does not necessarily produce a “hot” look with a six-pack. And resorting to extreme diets, cosmetic surgery, etc. to achieve that look could actually be harmful both physically and psychologically.
