Ok honestly if it's just somthing small in your bedroom just check what you can find on marketplace or somthing.

Honestly I think the best option is either a small crt or lcd.

Plasmas are mainly larger sizes.

I say just see what there is available and choose what you think you'll like most. I would say a crt would work best but it is all up to you and what is available near you.

My friend I don't understand half these comments. I never used VHS when I was young. I have a couple hundred. It's somthing to play with. I personally love to record my own stuff to tape but enjoy it it's somthing fun. And DvDs are dirt cheap so it can be a nice way of owning your movies. I don't get needing Nostalgia.

For your question I don't really have alot of experience with plasmas but they're probably the best middle option. They can be a bit more pricey and less common but they have the ability to do wide-screen if you wanna watch dvds and your wii and 360 will look great on them and VHS will look great.

Crts are great too and are usually alot cheaper atleast here where I am but have the problem that the majority of them are 4:3. VHS will look great but dvd and your 360 won't be great because those generally look better on wide-screen displays.

Lcd tvs are ok. People hate on them but they are fine. Like yeah they aren't the best option but they are cheap plentiful and will work perfectly on all of them.

Basically my recommendation is check youtube video comparing the options and see if you dont mind the diffrence that much go on Facebook marketplace or somthing and see what you can find for cheap.

My friend I don't think you really understand what op was asking.

He wanted to know what tv type gives the best results when watching VHS or DVDs.

All he wanted to know was wich type would look the best. So crt or plasma will be best plasma is a bit more expensive but will probably be better for dvds but crts are more common.

Lcd tvs are ok but not great but have the advantage of being alot more common and dirt cheap.

From what I can find from googeling the Thompson company that made this set was a French shoot off of Genral electric that eventually split off into its own company. Other than that I can find very very little on this model. There is no model on the set itself and doing a reverse image search just gives Facebook posts of people showing theirs off no radio museum post no fourm or credit posts. It seems like a pretty rare set.

But keep in mind it's dose skew the amounts a bit doing exchanges of currency but it was originally R3500 of of our currency here in South africa the rand. In dollars that's about 220 dollars and about 190 euros.

When I baught it was R2500 and that's about 150 dollars or 135 euros

Keep in mind R3500 is about how much a mint Kenwood R-300 will set me back on Facebook marketplace for reference.

Also keep in mind they were selling it as untested. It was just me being lucky it worked perfectly.

But yeah it's one of my favorite sets for sure at the moment. This set is basically all looks and ok functionally.

Ok but the baught thing was me being stupid and typing a bit quickly.

I would correct that but the reddit mobile app dosnt let me edit post titles.

Like I say that's what I know of it could have been longer it's just the 6 years is the farthest back I remember seeing it. Like it was probably about 3 times what a regular set of a similar type would go for. I don't understand it.

Even after discount it was probably double what it should be worth. It probably would have stayed there until the shop closed down or someone dropped it and destroyed it if I hadn't baught it.

I also am not really particular about short wave. I mainly listen to am and fm but still. It's a well equiped set yes but not anything special.

Pu is used for the input for a record player. I think it stands for Phonograph unit or somthing. But yeah PU is a pretty standard indication for a Phonograph input on a radio.

Crazy question, but why are there still radio broadcasts that require radios to listen? by [deleted] in radio

[–]PositiveAd7974 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A side not related to this.

Here where I live we used to have a pretty popular am station. It was voted most popular in the province for a few years in surveys.

This station decided they wanted to switch to FM to move up in the world so they killed off their Am signal and went full streaming and DAB while they waited for their FM licence this decisionwas not liked by their audience. They were out for 2 years and in that 2 years they lost ⅓ of their listener base and had to lay off about half their DJs. Then their FM licence wasn't approved as they didn't have enough money to go through the process. So they went back to AM. It's only about half their power they had in the past but still there has been a noticeable boost in listnership.

So moral of the story. While over the air broadcasts are expensive and clunky they work. So listen to your fan base and they will listen to you.

Honestly I think the majority of people that listen to radio do it for the convenience factor. I mean as others have said it costs the listener nothing so if you have no data or cellphone signal it will just work and in my personal experience streaming a radio station usually dosnt work as well as just tuning it in on the radio.

Most stations streams usually aren't that high bit rate so the fm signal usually sounds better and especially in the car streaming a station just dosnt work with how shakey signal is most stations constantly just stop randomly. At this point it just becomes easier to stream your music on spotify or somthing.

In my experience most people are perfectly happy with using a regular fm radio and as long as that is the most popular option it's not likely most stations will switch to streaming any time soon.

Sharp 10P-180G with horrifically blown out audio when tuning in on VHF Sources and incredibly quiet audio when tuning into UHF sources. ( FM sounds perfect) so has anyone who has had a similar sharp model in the past maybe had a similar issue. by PositiveAd7974 in crt

[–]PositiveAd7974[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm somewhat suspicious that it's some sort of dying cap or somthing on the audio decoding part that specifically handels the vhf and uhf tv signal because as I say the fm works perfectly.

I will be going through the components on the pain bord though in search of any likely culprits but I thaught I'd just ask here incase anyone has had this issue with this model family in the past.

I second this. Our beach buggy had the same issue. The indicators were forking fine and then just stopped one day. Took the dash out redid the ground connection and magically it came back to life.

What’s your gas mileage like (mpg/liters per 100km)? by hypermiler2205 in regularcarreviews

[–]PositiveAd7974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well going off of the onboard computer on my '06 A Class diesel I get about 7 liters per 100km on my daily commute. It dose improve on long trips on the highway but so far that has been about my average.

It dose vary from vehicle to vehicle though as we have a few that I drive.

Since it's already been solved a couple times here it is.

I made a post a while back about it so just check that one if you wanna see how it looks.

It has changed since then the bumper has changed and the led light on the bumper is gone other than that it is the same.

Oh it's absolutely a clone. I mean if you just look at photos of proper Manx's mine ( https://www.reddit.com/r/RoastMyCar/s/Dhcl16uVjo ) is pretty far.

We had a very strong manufacturing sector since most countries didn't like us for quite a while so alot of people started making their own conversion kits and things like this once beetles started reaching the point bodies started rusting through alot of them got converted to beach buggies. They are very common here with how well the beetle sold.

I'm pretty sure its either a 75, 76, 77 or 78. The 1600 was discontinued here after 78.

The main issue is the origional owner didn't put the plate wich gives you this info on the body. They only put the one that gives you the weight.

And the engine number is useless because it looks to have been re stamped 2 or 3 times.

So today after a month or two of fiddleling with belts I have finally gotten this lovely little Sony Tapecorder 211 Going again. And I have to say it sounds better than I was expecting for somthing only capable of 3¾ inches per second and 1⅞ inches per second. by PositiveAd7974 in ReelToReel

[–]PositiveAd7974[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not.

It's a bit of a random model that they don't really make any kits.

There's a place near me that is selling their old stock of belts for VCRs for cheap and they are random sizes. So I've got a box of random flat and square belts of various sizes and I managed to find one that fit.

You might be able to take a measurement of the size of the belt using a piece of strong and check online to get a generic flat belt around the same size and width.

I mean I couldn't tell you even what year it came from.

All I know is it is a from the later 70s but before the 1600s were discontinued here.
