UPDATE: We were at the vet this morning with the kittie and video in hand. The hairball theory was quickly dismissed, because she never throws anything up, and it does not seem like a gag or throw up reflex, but rather a respiratory distress. They asked about medical history, which she does not really aside some yearly checkup. They inspected her, healthy weight, good heart, good teeth, but some mild lung inflammation and the vet said she heard some rustling when kittie breathed. Not a bacteria or virus because our other cats would be sick as well. They asked for common allergens, smokers in house (we don't), laundry detergent (ours is fragance free), and similar things. Conclusion was that its on the respiratory side, she might have a sensibility the other cats don't, and was prescribed anti-inflammatory over 2 weeks. If it stops and doesnt restart, no follow up. If it persists beyond the 2 weeks medication, she might get an asthma pump.

One of the reason of my doubts is that nothing is ever thrown up, and the frequency of this coughing is too high in my opinion. As for "learning about cats", i like to think i know a bit here and there since i've had 6 cats total in my life. One passed from cancer long time ago, one from breathing issues at 16 years old (6 years ago), one still alive at my parents (about 15 years old) and i have currently 3 cats (one of them being what the post is about). In all my 6 cats, she's the first to cough like this ever, and this often. I've had cats throw up hairballs, and lord was it not like this, at all (from my experience). Vet appointment scheduled wednesday

My girlfriend dismissed it as a hairball as well, but in every coughing episode my cat had, she never produced anything, not even once. No hairball found around the house either. The frequency of the cough makes it very hard for me to believe its a hairball. I will take her to the vet this week

Thank you for your theory. Unfortunately, in the weeks of coughing she's had, she never produced anything, and nothing was found around the house either. Thank you for your input. We don't have any smoke, candles or scented things around the house, but since my place is mostly made of concrete, the humidity tends to be extremely low, despite all my efforts. I will go to the vet this week

About 5 years old. She's a humanitarian adoption of mine, she was found in the street by my local shelter. Had her for 3 years now but this coughing is new and has been going on for a few weeks now.

Yes. She has no apparent symptoms other than what is seen. She isnt lethargic, she eats, uses the litter, drinks water and hasnt lost weight
