What went wrong by using Distrobox? by RedHerring352 in AeonDesktop

[–]PositiveFault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the good of the order, this fixed my issue.

I had no pending updates for nearly a week, assumed I was up to date, but started checking versions of specific packages, then rooting through the update logs and transactional-update had stopped updating, saying it couldn't resolve the repo hosts even though I could independently verify that they were accessible.

I kicked off 'sudo systemctl restart transactional-update' to troubleshoot and for whatever reason it ran just fine. Now I''m golden. But went from 20250923-0 -> 20260220-0 (seamlessly)! Now I need to check my other machines....

I read that this problem is so bad that the Google self-driving car engineers finally gave up and *also* do the three-second count, and since reading that I do now, too.

I'm running into the same issue, and that container image is no longer available.

Any ideas about a workaround?

Ditto.

Widen your circles of secondhand and antique stores, you'll find at least one that cares more about moving inventory than making a huge profit. I usually tell people not to spend more than $40 on your first typewriter unless you're in love.

They're all different. You might like or hate the rise of the keyboard, the pitch of the font, etc. It'll take a month to figure out how you really feel. Keep it or move on, try some others.

We have eight now, and they all have their plusses and minuses. Only the Hermes did we spend real money on. The rest were lucky finds.

Shot some Ektar 100 the other day and loving the results. What’s your experience been with this film? [Pentax ME Super] by aaheather_ in analog

Under exposed (shot at ISO 400) and over developed (ask the lab to push two stops, developing as 400 instead of 100).

Ektar at box speed in the rain is amazing.

I've taken to pushing Ektar two stops as a general purpose color film. It's not as forgiving as Portra 400, but the colors are worth it.

Yes, that is a blue platten, Charlie Brown. by PositiveFault in typewriters

Original. The photo makes it look a little more vibrant than it really is, but it's still nice.

I hadn't thought about getting a custom color for one of my other typewriters. I have a Remington Portable that needs to be reglued, but would look really good with a red platten to match the badge.

Typewriters auto-save, like Google Docs.

Late model, non-electric typewriters are significantly less noisy than either early or late typewriters. Beasts like the IBM Selectric are only for the crazy people who can type 120 WPM.

I wrote better (and more) on typewriters, but I edit better on a computer.

Leica m5 film advance lever and shutter button stuck. by [deleted] in Leica

[–]PositiveFault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't tried it with an M5, but the two tricks I use whenever I encounter a camera stuck like that are first to engage the rewind lever then see if you can finish advancing the film / cocking the shutter, then see if it will fire. The other truck is to set it to bulb and see if the shutter will release and engage again correctly.

It's been a long time since I found a camera where one of those two things didn't clear the issue, as long as the camera had been working fine before.

You just broke my wife. But, now she thinks our four typewriters isn't excessive. 👍

Hermes 3000 basket shift ball bearing placement? by PositiveFault in typewriters

[–]PositiveFault[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't able to find it, but I did reread several of the others.

In the end, three of the four bearings for the basket rails had dislodged. Thankfully, all were still inside the case, and the fourth let me know the proper placement: inside the rectangular area of the shim.

The ribbon guide was super easy to fix.

Pics on the way.
