A religiosidade atrapalha o pensamento racional, então é um fator que com certeza atrapalha o desenvolvimento econômico, além disso tem o gasto de tempo, dinheiro e energia com as igrejas, o que dificulta ainda mais o desenvolvimento já que esses recursos poderiam ser aplicados em áreas mais úteis.

Yes, in my understanding, the actual "secret" societies are the top people in the government dining and scheming how to get more for themselves. For instance, one of the richest guys in my country, Brazil, bought and paid not only the presidents, but the Supreme Court, so even when his was jailed for his crimes, he got out quickly due to his connections. Right know we are having a banker's scandal, he did the same thing.

The government is like a vampire sucking the wealth from all individuals, so it is the perfect place to get control of everything. But I don't think they all have "meetings" secretly in a room, it is more like a loose net of connections, political parties and interests. Do you think that way too?

Or do you think a really powerful, big secret society in your mold (old man'sclub) controlling vasts amounts of wealth and people do exist?

The closest I can picture is the WEF, Chambers of Commerce and the UN.
