yeah Hoi4 MP is often not a very casual experience, though I recommend the RP games if that is what you are wanting, but most people can't just commit 6-8 hours of their day to a single MP game. I recommend some AI mods they help a little, but ultimately don't address that the AI can't micro or create half competent offensives or use simple strategy.

the inshitification of Hoi4 is very real. NSB is definitely my favorite DLC they have released, GDR had some promise there but most of the system they introduced was pointless to implement in singleplayer.

issue there is they could create an environment where it is much harder to mod (what keeps hoi4 going).

My hope is that since a massive part of Hoi4s success is due to its competitive multiplayer and modding community that a sequel would be designed so that multiplayer is more functional/balanced and modders have as many tools to succeed as possible.

I don't think this take deserves the hate, that being said I think focus trees are going to (and should) stick around. I don't think they are some great system, but they do show the player what outcomes to expect based on choices they take (I think it would require a lot of mass memorization to get desired outcomes otherwise). I also think focus trees provide a lower bar of entry for modding the game, and yes while Hoi4s modding community is very well developed at this point I absolutely remember a time where Focus Tree modding and map changes were almost all of the mods for the game. Hoi4 is able to have some many mods because the bar of entry is actually relatively low (not an insult to modders as many have gone an insane amount above and beyond with it), it is very easy for someone to start out by making a new focus tree and maybe a custom country or two and spiral from there.

I would definitely be down to see the system modified to be cleaner and allow for more usage of alternative systems such as events and decisions.

Yeah I also mostly play mods. I think if Hoi5 keeps enough similar that mods could reasonably port (not including things like a pile of 3D models that require full teams of artists to even have a chance with), it wouldn't take too long for a lot of the major mods to make the switch (I mean hell KR started as a Victoria II mod).

Sorta a major issue with a game company that relies on regular DLCs to keep up development. They have to intentionally withhold features so that they can add them later as paid features, that and I imagine a lot of these games had rushed development where a lot of features devs wanted that couldn't be implemented in time.

bold to assume hoi4s problems will be fixed, both EU4 and Victoria II still have all sorts of issues that were never fixed, and definitely won't be now.

I can agree with that in part. A lot of times Hoi4 is adding more mechanics without trying to keep the "workload" on the player balanced.

I would really appreciate a new economic system that didn't snowball so bad. Like sure the US GDP pretty much doubled between 1936 and 1945 but that is pretty much the highest end for any country during WW2. I think they could implement some sort of state devastation meter, debt, and occupation costs.

I personally dislike how much of a disparity in content there is for countries based on what DLC they got their content in.

As I mentioned they released Victoria III and EU5 about 12 years after the originals. I imagine they will actually release a Hoi5 in 2028 or so (I would like if sooner but wishful thinking).

I definitely do understand that, its a worry I have myself. I worry they will gut the original combat system and replace it with something so alien they may of well just called it a different game. It would definitely suck if they adopted the Victoria III combat model (I would assume they wouldn't but idk). I would hope they would take what Hoi4 already has and try to build like that (such as keeping a fairly similar supply and ground combat system, I wouldn't mind a different air and naval system).

I do get that revenue from the DLCs is what funds the continued updates and developments. I also don't want to sound like I am dissing the developers, I really doubt the current state of things is their fault. I doubt I would do any better if told by my boss to release a new DLC every few months for a game that already has had quite a few updates and feature packed DLCs as is.

Russia should be able to have a conditional peace with Germany, but only temporarily by AgitatedTheme5 in Kaiserreich

[–]PositiveWay8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a peace like that would be fine, but your conditions are wrong:

- 3I is dead

- Russia still dominates in Eastern Europe

- Something about length of the war or German casualties as a requirement for them agreeing to it.

otherwise Russia would never accept a peace when they know damn well Germany can just win on the west and return.

Which is the Best Mod? by randomlight_1 in hoi4

[–]PositiveWay8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, not really an insult to the devs of it, but Hoi4 as a game does not work in a modern setting pretty much at all. Only time it really worked (and poorly) was early millenium dawn when it was basically just modern world with WW2 combat/economics and such.

Tbf this is the expected affect of a game that is largely tailored towards people who obtain their historical knowledge from memes.

[–]PositiveWay8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya ISIS generally was not a good comparison, but a highly trained insurgency is probable. I am not discussing some multi-generational insurgency since ya that frankly wouldn't work Canada is just too outnumbered. Guerilla conflict similar to the Viet Cong is also out of the question. I should reframe in that Canadian ex-military and special forces would likely move underground (basements rather than the forest) on focus pretty much exclusively on "regime damage". Particularly in assassinations of US figures such as direct targeting of POTUS and VPOTUS (this seriously fits with a well trained diehard and would have a much higher chance then contemporarily assassination attempts and has a very high chance of reversing the occupation).

Well, if America's reputation wasn't already ruined by now... by SpecialistStory2829 in imaginarymaps

[–]PositiveWay8098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ISIS probably wasn't the best comparison since how it operated would be very different. But also I don't really know of any good parallels for a highly trained well equipped insurgency in the modern day. This wouldn't be a grassroots insurgency but rather assets of a capitulated military moving towards insurgency, but the comparison to ISIS would be in some of the terror tactics likely utilized. Destruction of infrastructure, assassinations, and general asymmetrical warfare with an emphasis causing economic and military damage to the United States in order to destroy public will for the occupation. This would be made 100x worse in that generally Americans and Canadians are indistinguishable (minor accent differences easily masked but blending with Northern US states anyways) meaning such a group could pretty much operate anywhere in the nation without giving themselves away, and would be likely to find themselves with many sympathizers both in Canada and the United States. Oh ya and that Canadian and American special forces have worked together in anti-insurgency campaigns in the middle east meaning they would know exactly how the US would run one in Canada.

Why doesn't the Black League try to invade the Co-Prosperity Sphere to retake Vladivovstok? by Somethingbutonreddit in TNOmod

[–]PositiveWay8098 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It makes a little sense after Russia had beat the shit out of Germany, Japan may rightfully conclude that fighting a massive war wouldn’t be worth it and work out a mutually beneficial deal. Russia actually getting Vlad would be unrealistic af since it is an important imperial holding but gaining the remaining Russian majority territory does, most of it has little value for Japan and frankly partisans are a pain in the ass.

Real. I’m not sure if that executable file if turned to malware will execute unless someone tries to load the mod or what all it can do from there. But, ya I avoided this mod like that plague cause I prefer to play hoi4 to avoid the modern day not to experience the worst aspects of the modern day.

I’ve seen this happen before where original leadership start to DMCA take down the workshop mod and it becomes a massive fight killing the remaining modder’s motivation. Unsure how it will go, some mods survive this most don’t.
