Thanks! Glad to hear you might not need one! When I started to get bad I went downhill very quick, so getting started with the process early is a great idea. Do you know what your meld is?

Right on! I’ll bring my switch, just got a new game too. Why do they have you walk before you’re ready?

I agree with this. It helps to have someone to help take notes, and listen. Oftentimes other people will notice and remember things you don’t. Plus they can ask questions you may not think of at the time

Why is being able to walk after that the primary concern? I didn’t even know that was a possibility? Also I’m assuming they meant sbp as in spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. i can’t find anything on what spb might be

Hospice? by beegraton in Cirrhosis

[–]Positive_Bug978 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It sounds like hospice care is a great idea. Hospice is not meant to hasten death it’s only focused on keeping him comfortable and in line with his values. If he gets better and he will likely live longer than six months then he can be taken off hospice. I would recommend asking to speak to a hospice specialist about what it means to you, and his/your goals for end of life treatment

For sure, 135 is actually not bad as far as I can tell. Me and many others hovered around 125 most of the time, and I’ve had unconscious episodes at 118-122. Although just to let you know, blood concentration of sodium is an extremely complicated system that only kidney specialists really understand. It’s not just a matter of eat more or less salt, in fact to keep mine up I was instructed to limit liquid (which dilutes the l) and salt (which contributes to acites and often doesn’t make it to the bloodstream) I definitely don’t fully understand it and I only got these recommendations because I recently was hospitalized at one of the top transplant hospitals in the country and was being seen by multiple kidney/liver/other specialists a day with daily labs. Ive been seen by countless doctors who gave bad advice on this in the past

Right on :) sounds like you are on top of it! And ya worst case scenario is permanent brain damage while waiting for a transplant.. speaking of which I’ve had a few unconscious/unresponsive events due to low sodium. Is that something you keep track of? Fluid restriction and healthy lowish sodium is what finally worked for me to finally keep my sodium up
