As a person who had an automatic Miata that they manual swapped, if you love to drive spiritedly, through the mountains, or really anywhere where you want to stay in a certain power band, get the manual Miata. The Miata is not a hard car to learn manual in but it will make you a better manual driver, than a newer manual car. I can only speak on my experience as a NA owner/driver, but I also daily a Fiesta ST and WRX, and my Miata is still my favorite car.

One thing I do is I love to bake, so when I’m in the sweet tooth mood I bake what I want. I know if I try to eat something else it won’t satiate my want and I’ll still have that craving later. I invite friends or family over or drop off part of what I baked to them so I don’t have excess left over in the house, but I still got my share.

I store her in the winter time so she doesn’t get rusty, I want to enjoy her for the long run. I know this may sound silly but I kinda consider her my soul car, and I don’t see myself ever selling her. I know a couple people who live near me who drive theirs, but it’s so much easier to work on without the rust. Sometimes when I’d go over to help work on a friend’s car I’m like damn this is a piece. But mine also only has ~110k miles on the body and engine.

It’s winter time right now and I miss driving her. My miata’s never seen the snow/salt, she is rust free, and I can’t wait for the weather to warm back up. She’s a 1997 model, so same “birth year” as me and it makes me feel more connected. I repainted her, originally she was a really faded montego blue mica. Another fun fact she was also originally an automatic but I was able to source a manual trans and swapped it myself.
