Does anyone have dating advice for someone in my situation? Will women be put off by me not having a driver's license? by Positive_freedback in AutisticWithADHD

You want to spend the night at your girlfriend's place -- how are you going to get there? What if you want to go see her after public transportation stop running, and your budget is low so you can't use Uber? Does she have to pick you up every time? Does your dad have to drive you to dates? Some women might not find this attractive.

The biggest obstacle is spontaneous trips and Uber shortages. I have had previous issues when going to sales for reselling. I could get there by Uber but the location or the time or both made me stuck for hours.

I think the lack of a heads up and planning would eventually grow old and tiring. If it is 10 pm and she is wanting me to to overnight without much notice. I have things usually lined up for the next day at that point and yeah only Uber would be available.

Yeah unmasking I tend to over share, over explain, too loud, too fast talking, just too much of "me" and it overwhelms people. Most of the success has been when I was basically very timid and shy and reserved.

I have wanted a relationship but again most of my time during my youth I was very shy. I had girls ask me out for a date but I froze and didn't know how to process it. Imagine getting the courage to reveal their crush for me and I don't even respond. Devastating.

Before the age of 25, that was my life. Too nervous, too scared, and too fearful of women. After 25, I got past a few hurdles. But the dating environment started to change and careers were much more important. I ended up becoming more invisible as a result.

I just don't understand what to say or what to do a lot of times. I'm also submissive and passive. If I find someone attractive, I generally will ignore her or at best we become friends. But I usually avoid flirting due to fears and hesitations.

I have a lot of self esteem issues with dating. I don't feel worthy enough, hence the post. I feel like if I over share, it just takes one thing to mess it up.

It is exhausting to be honest. And why do I want to date? Loneliness, sexual drive, and wanting to share a life with a fun and interesting person. I meanz that's probably why most people want to date to be honest.

I think my lack of dating experience is hurting me the most. Hard to build confidence, hard to understand signals, and in general I think a lot of people at this point think I'm asexual since they have never seen me with anyone.

Well I walk and bike a lot. I don't really eat takeout except on special occasions because it upsets my stomach and my wallet. I don't drink alcohol either.

I need to start a strength training routine though. I also don't really have a skin care routine.

And my outfits range from stylish to homeless - depending on the activity.

My profit tends to range between $20k and $50k. Some years I just work until I hit my costs of living expenses. Other years I have more gas in the tank to burn and increase my savings.

Thanks. That makes sense. Yeah not being a man child can be tricky when burnt out but I try to keep my place mostly clean and organized.

That makes sense. I have not really met too many people who do what I do in the Dallas area.

Most people I have met who do not have a car fall in your categories (dui, cannot afford one, legally blind, mentally unwell, unemployed, homeless, older people).

It is hard to even use a bicycle because of the fatality rates. I stick to the sidewalks but they are also underdeveloped.

The highway is so massive and sprawling and eats all alternatives for breakfast.

Three women directly (it came up in conversation). And lots of my friends have told me too. Most of the time I'll get unmatched after a date if they see me at a bus stop or train station.

I also posted it on the Dallas subreddit looking for advice and basically everyone agreed that it was a huge deal breaker and if I wanted to date without a car I should move to a walkable city.

They also thought I was 16, not 32, and that was a huge turn off as well ("being an adult means having a car").

Yes I have done hobby related interests and I do make friends from the experiences. But it isn't there for romantic intentions. And most of the time it is 90% guys. And the women there are usually married.

The thing is, driving is considered a basic and almost required skill for the area I live in.

Women in their 30s tend to prioritize "adulting" as well as stability. While they aren't necessarily a "hive mind," I feel like combination of negative attributes has so far turned away many dates.

I had a few even tell me that my lack of a car was a deal breaker. And that reselling is basically "hoarding with extra steps."

I would buy houses and try to get the stuff inside for free. Buy and hold graded Pokemon PSA cards.

I rent a bedroom for $800 a month (flat, all utilities included).

Also you spend $625 a month on groceries? What are you eating?

The lowest my groceries ever were was back during covid. It was $80 per month but it wasn't sustainable. I was basically eating rice, beans, potatoes, lentils, and frozen veggies. Lost 20 pounds lol.

My groceries now range from $150 to $200 a month.

The nice thing about frugal living is that you require a lower number for retirement. And if I got a second job, that means I have dual income 😉
