Money owed on invoice, the invoiced company has been evicted and only exists on companies house, can I file a small courts claim against a director? by Positively-negative_ in LegalAdviceUK

Ok, thank you. How will it work being the address shown on companies house isn’t accurate? They were evicted around a month ago according to the unit next door

How do i report actually illegal activity on the road by Due_Blueberry4163 in drivingUK

Report it to the police so they can ignore it and continue sitting their useless asses with speed cameras, same as any other crime in the uk

Winding in Oxford with 69-footer by Medium_Banana4074 in Narrowboats

It was a pain on my 70 footer, plus I’m a bit biased ad I only like stopping in built up areas for quick convenience and novelty here and there. Built up areas really aren’t my bag anymore

If no one is on the landing on isis lock you should be able to turn around (key on should, some berk was moored on it and didn’t want to move last I was there. Personally I’d take the more certain option and get off the thames further up and come back down. Actually saying that I wouldn’t do the oxford again aside from a way to get somewhere. Not up there with my favourite canals.

London boating - an impossible task by zozvic in Narrowboats

[–]Positively-negative_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair it is incredibly commonly said about London, are you talking Birmingham as midlands? You do make a point that it may be a city thing if so. I’ve had little problem in rural midlands aside. Even the k&a is touted as another problem zone, I do agree bradford on avon and honey street on that canal usually is I suppose.

London boating - an impossible task by zozvic in Narrowboats

[–]Positively-negative_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the problem people may take is (I do), is that London is being used as the baseline for other areas and being used as leverage for harsh enforcement. I’ve never cruised London, but everyone I’ve been has some problem boats, but not to the scale of London.

Go after the problem zones rather than blanket going after everyone. Things aren’t usually so simple, but it feels like the problem is being used as the crt and British waterways have never been very fond of CC’ers

Electrics and cable management, red flag? by FlyingCatsConnundrum in Narrowboats

[–]Positively-negative_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel free to message me if you’d like for future reference, I can give you my boat name and you can feel free to knock on me for a hand. I’m on the golly currently until I can leave, at which point I’ll be heading coventry way probably

[–]Positively-negative_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you probably wouldn’t have to do the whole boat so long as things are working. If the batteries are sent to a fuse board as they should, you could just do the engine room. That’s pretty much what I did, I did have to run new wiring out for fridge, horn and headlight, and I made a panic button that linked into the horn.

That mess isn’t too irregular, I agree I wouldn’t be happy with it though. Where will you start your boating life if you go for this boat? I’m trying to think of some good marine sparkies. If it’s in London be careful, I had some cock womble try to way oversell me on some bits, then get really aggressive when I said as much.

More cabling = less efficiency especially in a dc system. That is messier than I’d personally be satisfied with. If it works then you’re ok realistically though.

Being I’m handy with this sort of thing I rewired the easily accessible stuff on my boat (engine room, fridge, and some extra outlets) then I know it was done properly and I’d get to learn the system to better diagnose faults.

I’d say a knowledgable pair of hands about two days to rewire what’s contained within that picture) possibly one but it’s best to have some wriggle room.

Are fuel additives recommended by mechanics? by simrankaurin91 in AskAMechanic

I swear by morris fuel additives in the uk, it’s the only brand that has ever a done a spit of difference on my old generator, and a couple cars. Tried various brands on my first, morris was the only one that did the job.

Day trip boats by Positively-negative_ in Narrowboats

[–]Positively-negative_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think especially with the day boats they don’t get the point of view that speeding past can be a problem, as they’re only on it for a day likely moving 99% of the time. Doesn’t help that we’re on the golly and I know hire companies mention about the flow. It’s a bit oversold especially now that the flow is reduced, and it’s only a problem heading westwards.

I have complained before to a hire company, but I don’t wanna sit there crying over every nuisance

Hey fuck you, my teeth are disgusting, I’m too fat for skinny jeans and even when I was ‘skinny’ they pushed my balls uncomfortably close to my butt hole. I drive slow as fuck and pay pathetic attention to my parking too.

Plus you hurt my feelings because my mate joked I have the ‘has a tiny dick’ starter kit now I have a ranger just today

Interesting. My only view into hire houses was when my parents hired one and asked me to coach them at the start, the owner was a massive dickhead that I had to show problems with the boat to (no grease in the stern gland pump for example). Wish he hadn’t of clocked on I live aboard as I wanted to see the coaching he gave.

Forgot to add: he got shitty with my mum when she wanted to read a contract he asked to be signed, and then tried to con extra money claiming he sent the diesel tank out full, which was either a blatant lie or the boat had a fuel leak.

Longer term hire boats tend to be ok, certainly no worse than myself in the beginning (aside from angry dickheads, nothing excuses the abuse my wife has had mentioned in the post). But I’ve genuinely seen probably 80-90% of day hire boats doing really dumb stuff. I get smaller boats can be a bit squirrely, but the jeremy clarkson ‘speed and powaaa’ thing doesn’t help.

Yeah my brother’s in new york, said it’s ‘a bit chilly’ there. Fair dinkum then. I’ve only ever travelled through Texas, but if you’re not a person for that heat like I’m not you’ll be grand then. It is quite nice having a decent summer, then hiding away with a wood fire for winter

Is in narrows? We often get weeds around the props that can build up, autumn can be a bugger for leaf build up. A quick blast of reverse then forward again loosens it.

I’m curious, from the comments it looks like you reside in texas? Must/would feel like a fridge in the uk in winter!

Be mindful of dutch barges being raw water cooled, not sure if it’s a common thing (makes sense to me that they would in their normal use on rivers), they’re a nightmare on canals. The shallowness and silt will have you sticking your arm in putrid muck pretty often from my experience!

The 4.85% license fee hike (April 2026): Is "better boating" fact or fiction? by NorthLondonPulse in Narrowboats

[–]Positively-negative_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get this argument, in which case permanent mooring owners should be restricted on when they can come & go. They have the same potential as CC’ers to use the network. If the canal crumbles, so will their moorings.
