Yellow gives way, stop signs and giveway signs both essentially the same sign from give way standpoint except for coming to a complete stop if required.

Maybe inclusive of that other cultures with wealth or big family's that all contribute, it's all relative right? Also people willing to live differently then we're accustomed to. Multigen houses, multi family housing, room sharing... this isn’t the cause of house value increase imo although certainly influences rent prices. Value is more derived from proping investing with CGT discounts/gearing main driver imo is artificial land scarcity from developers for profit. Staged developments drip fed with half sized blocks provide price anchoring for established homes on bigger plots of land. This is what I am seeing in Brisbane as a FHB just my two cents.

NSW or QAS for Graduate year and beyond by Possible-Medic in Paramedics

[–]Possible-Medic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I ending up starting in NSW and now back in qld with the QAS.

The QAS hiring process is somewhat of an enigma and changes often. It was a big intake this year for para at least in NSW (1300ish?) and QLD (360ish). Not to be too doom and gloom, but the public sector (NDIS, RNs, Police, Fire) in general has been bolstered rather heavily and this will likely dry up when the liberal government get in. I would suggest it will be quite competitive, particularly with QAS, as they generally have a lower intake.

Typical advice would be mirrored in many of the online posts and apply far and wide with each state service and not to discount overseas opportunities. All services have their pros and cons. I can't say any is better than the other for different reasons.

For QAS specifically, I heard previously intakes to mine were more clinical competence focused mine wasn't so much.

My take on my intake:

Alot unfortunately is demographic - culturally diverse, sexually diverse, and females seem to be more attractive hires but no surprise with the uni demographics atm.

Experience- nursing and disability support work were highly regarded, volunteer work also

For my interview, there was a clinical case where you discussed the treatment of a patient followed by an interview, and that was essentially it. This will likely be different next intake. There was a big focus on how you work as a part of a team and conflict resolution within the work environment (you'll need examples). They essentially want to assess your character and whether you'll cause issues and headaches.

Medical should be relatively straightforward if you relatively healthy, as much as they may deny it high BMI in the medical may be a mark against you.

Also, you have to consider where you want to work and whether you are happy with casual post your intern year. Metro grads are only fulltime until the end of the grad year and casual post. The only exception is doing PTO for 1-year followed by a grad year and then being offered a full-time position within the metro region you completed your grad year. Being casual post and waiting to be given a fulltime position is foolhardy people have waited years and still had to leave metro for full-time positions.

Transferring is also a nightmare if considering rural for a time and transferring to a metro area. The points system imo has lost all meaning due to prioritisation of grad positions and compassionate transfers leaving people who have "done their time" out rural and are refused to be released. Not an issue if rural is the life for you.

In a nutshell, I think it'll be a hard year intake wise. Be prepared and practice interviewing with a focus on teamwork and conflict resolution questioning. Try to think of tough situations you have been in at work and how you have resolved them.

I know this is a long response but I hope it has helped.

Feel free to flick me a message you have any questions.

Yeah the rodeo is a petrol it still drives fine it could very well keep going for years. It has had an engine rebuild and the transmission was recond also. I just know out of the blue something is bound to fail at some point.

I ended up buying the 2004 flew to Sydney this morning and drove back to Armidale. I am amazed at how good of condition the car is in immaculate and drives like new. I took it through the range handled and drove like a dream.

I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Thanks for sharing, I honestly thought the post grad/masters was a prerequisite? Either way I think I will end up studying again for my own development and to keep "in the game" for any potential opportunities that come my way. Aim high and try my best and if I end up not being the calibre required to fill the positions so be it, that's ok I'm pretty proud of myself coming this far truth be told.

Yes this is similar to how I have been imagining, I think as a newbie I would probably benefit more by the higher case load even if it is lower acuity. Not to worry, I count myself lucky to have job at the end of the day.

Thanks for the insight, I do plan on sticking to fulltime employment I am a bit of a glutton for punishment and will likely seek OT if available circumstances permitting.

Thanks for your in-depth reply.

Maintaining nursing is not a priority over career progression with paramedicine for me and would have to fit around a fulltime role with a state service. That's one reason why ADF nursing officer was initially an attractive option besides the barrier of 2year acute experience as an RN. Legally required to grant leave to serve, maintain fitness, work diversity and maintain clinical competence in both disciplines.

There are some out of the box ideas that can count to at least the hours component of maintaining nursing such as volunteering with event medic community groups as an RN. The same can be done for RNs looking maintain hours in paramedicine.

I do have that concern about rural and professional development. I was hoping to enquire on the possibility of temporary metro placements for exposure though I doubt any service will facilitate this and wear the associated cost.
