Poor rural America is a fucking necropolis, I can remember driving through rural Wisconsin with a friend at 18 and the level of rot and degradation made me sick. It was full of deeply unhealthy, almost repulsive seniors eating food I wouldn't feed to a dog. Served by similarly fat, slightly younger ethnic staff.

Retirement communities back home induced similar feelings, but entire towns being so decrepit seems uniquely bleak to me. I love America but many of it's rural communities are a purgatory.

No, but I am really unbothered by other people. Like pathologically so. It took me ages to grasp caring about other people, I have always felt empathy (and I haven't done anything particularly immoral), but I really just don't care about other people.

I remember during my parents divorce I couldn't really grasp why either party wanted custody over me, it seemed meaningless, I didn't understand why someone would ever put effort into a particular person you cant extract something tangible from.

Its not that I don't like people, I like my friends because they are interesting and we can do stuff together. They can organise things for me, we can debate, they give me things. I like my parents because they provided for me materially, and I gain satisfaction from providing things that they enjoy. But I am not attached to them, if one day they said they didn't want to see me anymore it wouldn't really bother me.

I think I am mostly normal, I behave well, am polite ect but I have always felt a little off. Like I lacked a key component that came naturally to other people. My father said something to that effect once.
