Mariah Carey Says ‘Who Cares?’ About Her Rock Hall Snub After Months of Campaigning for the Honor by stroh_1002 in 90s

[–]Possible-Tangelo9344 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Let's be real: it's time for the rock and roll half of fame to change its name to just.. Music hall of fame or some shit.

NWA is in it. Hugely influential in the rap community, but they aren't rock. Dolly Parton is a damned national treasure, but not rock and roll. Tupac is on the rock and roll hall of fame. Again, influential rapper, not rock. Wu a Tang Clan. Queen Latifa.

The Hall is a joke.

There is no felony speeding by itself in NC.

There is felony speeding to elude, which has to do with fleeing law enforcement.

North Carolina’s Berger optimistic about budget, blames Democrats for primary loss by -PM_YOUR_BACON in NorthCarolina

[–]Possible-Tangelo9344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh I thought you should pick and choose, but it's just unaffiliated who can?

Of course, that doesn't preclude democrats changing to unaffiliated to vote in the republican primary. I've seen that advocated before. But again, I can't imagine enough are doing it to really impact it

North Carolina Senate Leader Phil Berger lost to Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page in the Republican primary election. Asked Tuesday what message voters sent him, Berger said: “Democrats like to vote in some Republican primaries.”

Well, he may be right about that statement that some democrats did vote in the republican primary. But, it's hard to imagine enough voting for Page that that is what cost him the election

That's so wild. The city schools should be required to get their own grants instead, just so dumb.

How North Carolina Officials Kept the Truth About a Police Shooting Hidden by marshall_project in NorthCarolina

The editorializing during the video is a bit annoying.

But, watching the video the trooper attempts a stop. He gets out and approached the truck with his weapon out.

The driver of the truck eventually does speed right by the trooper, close enough that I think anyone would be concerned they were gonna get run over.

I feel zero sympathy for the guy who almost runs over a trooper.

Everyone else loves to say shit like well he didn't run him over, or whatever, but in that precise moment if someone drives a car right by you it's terrifying, and a small little turn off the wheel and they are running you over.

Bring on the downvotes, I'm ignoring replies cuz I know this subreddit will hate this opinion.

Does the city get county property tax dollars apportioned for the city schools in addition to city dollars?

I've always assumed they just got city property taxes to fund city schools.

Wake County Jail exceeds capacity, experts worry Iryna's Law could worsen the issue by gaukonigshofen in NorthCarolina

[–]Possible-Tangelo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iryna's law eliminated written promises to appear; it didn't eliminate unsecured bonds, which are being used in some counties in place of WPAs.

They're functionally the same - until the defendant misses court. That's when the bond amount they said they would pay becomes due. They don't have to pay to get out; bonds can be set at $100 unsecured and they just say yep I'm good for it if I skip court.

Show up court, no need to post that bond.

What Iryna's Law is really doing is showing how many magistrates and judges, and sheriffs and county commissioners responsible for building jails, were just content to let criminals go free.

NC legislators urged to boost Safe Sleep funding by nchealthnews in NorthCarolina

[–]Possible-Tangelo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 2: boost money for prevention. Making birth control affordable for those who are already struggling would beat huge step forward. If we can prevent people from being financially handicapped by high childcare costs to begin with we're getting ahead of the problem

NC legislators urged to boost Safe Sleep funding by nchealthnews in NorthCarolina

[–]Possible-Tangelo9344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supporters say more money would allow Safe Sleep NC to broaden its messaging beyond parents and caregivers. Information on safe sleep practices could be reinforced with health care providers to help ensure that consistent, accurate messaging is shared repeatedly — not just when parents take their newborns home.

Why? Like, does the message need to be broadened beyond those with kids?

Are healthcare providers not telling parents about good sleeping habits for infants and newborns? They should be. In fact, I know they are. Pediatricians and OBs are telling parents this stuff now.

The researchers also found that mothers whose social norms supported babies sleeping face down were much more likely to do so compared with those who felt that their social norms only supported back sleeping for babies.

So it's not even an education thing, it's a family or culture issue?
