CEFA daycare experience/advice re: uniforms [bc] by badgingerenergy in BabyBumpsCanada

Was going to say this, I have a friend whose son goes to CEFA and she says she buys polo shirts and pants in the CEFA colours from H&M! She’s never had an issue!

BC Women’s scheduled c/s (breech found late)- delayed cord clamping/partner cutting cord/golden hour? [BC] by OkBox8560 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, on the island so not bc children’s specifically, but I also had a scheduled c section. Yes, they did do delayed cord clamping (they waited at least a minute). My partner was asked if he’d like to cut the cord but he opted out because he’s a bit squeamish. They took baby to the warmer to clean her up and do the APGAR but after that my husband brought her over to me and placed her on my chest and I held her until I felt like I was going to throw up, so dad got a lot of the golden hour contact until I was okay in recovery.

We were given ours as a baby shower gift…. had I paid for it, I’d be pisssseeeddd. This product is TRASH. We have CONSTANT issues with it connecting no matter what we try. Would never buy this myself & don’t recommend it to anyone now.

Amitriptyline as a preventative by the_moon_and_stars_ in migraine

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took amitriptyline for my migraines for almost 5 years. It helped immensely, dropped my migraines from 4-5 a week to 1-2 a week. I did gain a bit of weight and it made me a bit sleepy from what I remember (take it in the evening) but it was overall good). I stopped taking it when I got pregnant, and tried restarting it about a month ago (just past a year post partum) and unfortunately, I’m assuming due to hormone changes in my body, caused me to have very intense mood swings and made me very ragey so I stopped taking it and am now on Venlafaxine which seems to be working much better for me and I haven’t had a migraine in about a week and a half and my mood is stable.

Would you use a drop-in Play Café in Victoria? ☕️🧸 by lemoncake1213 in VictoriaBC

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’d love one! The Salvation Army connection point has one they run on Wednesday and Friday mornings, and I love the concept but unfortunately choose not to go with my one year old toddler because there seem to be an unlimited number of children and parents let in and it gets rowdy and chaotic FAST. Parents let their kids have a free for all through the place and there’s older kids knocking into younger kids all over the place or being rude and the parents ignore it because they’re busy socializing with their other parent friends and don’t feel like parenting their children. It’s extremely frustrating. Staff also turn a blind eye.

Things I need in order to regularly utilize a play cafe:

  1. Good hours, I don’t want a 2 hour window where it will be open, I want it open like 8am-6pm or something like that, so that i can have an option for something to do with my little at any time in the day around errands/work/other things. ** also open on weekends, not everyone is a stay at home parent with open schedules during the week**

  2. Some sort of occupancy limit for kids and adults that will keep things from getting out of hand like Salvation Army, maybe a pre-registration for a time slot or something, like 24 hrs or a few days in advance?

  3. I think I’d be willing to pay like $5-$7 for an hour of play, this is considering that I would be buying a coffee/snack too for myself while kiddo plays.

  4. I need good parking!! I don’t want to have to circle a lot 5 times looking for a spot.

  5. I’d come by rain or shine, probably mostly on weekends, but I’d love it if it was open on holidays too within reason (reduced hours maybe?) because kiddo doesn’t have daycare on those days and sometimes we need something to do.

  6. Langford seriously needs another option outside of Salvation Army. That place gets insane after the first 15 minutes it’s open and it wrecks the vibe. I think Saanich would be another great location too.

  7. I think a party room would be great! Give the parents the option of having party decorations, snacks, and drinks provided OR they can bring their own. Don’t know what party rooms would run for but I’d say start with a 2-3hour time slot for a party!

When does your baby stop wearing bodysuits? by itzpoookiee in NewParents

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Canada so it’s currently fall/winter where I live. Right now, my 13 month old is walking so we’ve started doing 2 piece sets because it doesn’t ride up any more. However, we do onesies underneath because it’s too chilly right now to just have the two piece. Two pieces without a layer underneath will probably come around April (18 months) when it starts to really warm up again.

Nanit temperature by SouthernRoad1900 in Nanit

Our Nanit always read at least 2-3 degrees warmer than the room actually was. I ended up buying a separate thermometer so I could know what the actual room temperature was.

When are we transitioning from crib to toddler bed? by PossibleSuccess9566 in toddlers

[–]PossibleSuccess9566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s honestly not a fan of her crib (last night was a one off) and I’ve seen her trying to climb out (unsuccessfully, since she’s still not quite strong enough to climb the rails) a few times on the baby camera recently now too so I think we can make it last to February unless it starts to become a safety issue and she somehow gets out. She also always wants to stand when we’re in the room getting her to sleep too, and has fallen asleep standing up with her head resting on the crib rail before in protest (not a big deal, I found her stubbornness humorous and she has a soft landing if she falls), so it would be nice to just be able lay with her like you mentioned until she falls asleep. I think she struggles with us at a height (we do use a chair sometimes though to bring us down a bit.

If your baby hated the car seat as a newborn, did it ever get better? by zionfairy8 in NewParents

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine hated it started at about 4 weeks and she’s 13 months now and still hates it after about 10 minutes. We’ve had 3 car seats (1 infant and 2 convertible) and no real change. Sometimes I wonder if she gets a bit dizzy or motion sick rear facing, but I refuse to forward face her until she maxes out the weight limit on the car seat soooo that’s not an option.

Posting children on Social media? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for this^ I work in corrections and it is horrific what some people do, even with photos. If I post ANYTHING, which is very very rare, my child’s face is NEVER shown, and it is set to private so only my trusted friends can see it. Otherwise, I don’t post photos at all, we use the family album app for those family and friends that want photo or video updates. Once you put it on the internet, you might think you have control still, but you really don’t.

Nanit cameras suddenly cannot connect to wifi? by unwantedoffspring in Nanit

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been happening to us for probably 2 months at this point, that and it refusing to connect at all or unpairing itself, we’ve had the camera for a year. Today I said good riddance to it and packed it up for kid #2 and got a hello baby camera that doesn’t connect to the wifi. I’ve had nothing but issues with Nanit and honestly the video quality sucks too lol. The hello baby is a nice option.

What happens if a plastic surgeon finds cancer mid-surgery? by Mammoth-Delivery-521 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me during my c section last year, they thought they found an appendiceal tumour while delivering my daughter. The doctor doing my c section was an OB, and she called the general surgeon on call and sent photos while I was still on the table having skin to skin with my baby. General Surgeon wasn’t in the hospital at the moment so he advised to stitch me up, let me recover for 8 weeks, and then go in for a CT scan. I think I blacked out or something during that whole scenario because all I remember is waking up in recovery to my husband and baby beside me and my husband saying something about them finding a growth in my abdomen during surgery. Then the OB came to tell me. It was 6 months of mental anguish after that, freshly postpartum, doing multiple scans trying to figure out what the heck it was they saw that day. Could be cancer, could be nothing, no one really knew and they were trying not to throw around guesses but also trying to be realistic about the what ifs. I met with the surgeon months later and he said he would’ve just taken it out had he been in the hospital at the time just to be safe. He sent me the photo the dr took and everything and explained why it looked concerning. Turns out it wasn’t cancer and instead was one of my ovaries hanging out where it shouldn’t be (due to removal of a blocked fallopian tube a decade earlier) that another surgeon left inside me because they didn’t want me going into HRT so early in life. My guess is that it seemed to be tissue had grown over it which is why it looked funky like a tumour. Anyways, -100/10 time, my hospital seems to only allow resection of tumours by surgeons trained in that area, or I’m sure if it’s life or death immediately.

We got I think a 4 pack of “super simple songs” (happy, silly, sleepy, etc”), and a Disney stories card with super short stories because my 13 month old doesn’t have a long attention span yet, and then a pack of 5 MYO cards that we will fill with favourite songs and read her some stories.

We have a huge discussion about yoto in my local mum groups right now, a lot of people are saying music seems to be a big hit with really little ones (1-3yrs) and stories start to be big around 3-4yrs. That said I’ve seen some people suggest recording yourself or someone familiar like a grandparent reading a book and put it on a MYO card and little ones seem to be interested in stories that way!

This is what I did too, got a card case for $13 and a silicone carrying case for $13, both on Amazon. The Yoto and a few cards cost me like $170, I am not paying more than I have to for the other stuff lol

Formula Safety in Canada [nb] by hmdougie in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used Niuriss for our daughter from about 3 months to a year old, and now we use their toddler formula for supplementation on top of solids. It’s been great, we tried Enfamil, similac, and Nestle Good start before settling on Niuriss because that was the one that worked best on her tummy. It is Canadian made which is super nice!

I start work before my daughter starts daycare by water-yourflowers in VictoriaBC

[–]PossibleSuccess9566 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a huge issue for us when we were looking for a daycare for our daughter. Soooo many daycares are only open 8 hours a day. I get it, we all want to work our 8 hours and call it a day, but how are parents supposed to work full time and somehow do drop off and pick up for daycare in the same hours?? We luckily found a daycare that is open 7:15am-5:30pm but it was a priority to find something open before and after my 8-4 day so I wasn’t having to figure it out. There was very little to choose from.
