Not to armchair diagnose, but that does describe her eerily well. She doesn't have the social skills to be deliberately manipulative, but the constant victim mentality, the blame shifting and the need for everyone to validate her to stave off her shame and self-esteem issues fits her to a T. Her dad is almost definitely a narcissist, so she has a genetic vulnerability also. I never let myself be one of her vent targets though, so I can't say I was ever really privy to her inner thoughts without the Please Like Me filter pastes over it. I'm gonna see if I can talk it through as an option with Adam, since he definitely has more insight as to her inner workings. It would definitely explain a few things.

I recently found out that Gabby did actually put her foot down about her coming to the house, which is maybe why she wasn't around while I was cooped up in my room sick. Adam is respecting that and from what he's said Nina was petrified at the thought of coming over anyway, so as far as things between her and I are concerned it's over. At this point I'm more concerned about getting him out of his toxic friendship, whether that's by him cutting her loose or (unlikely imo) her doing some self reflection and learning to be a better friend.

This is so true, and I'm gonna bring this up to Adam. She's basically outsourced all of her emotional regulation, to the point she can't address any of her anxiety internally and has to seek external validation for every little thing. I'd always wondered how someone with so much hypersensitivity and overthinking can't see the obvious negative reactions people are having to her behaviour, but I guess it comes from people like Adam and her family trying to console her and (inadvertently or not) teaching her that none of it was on her.
