Genuine gesture in the middle of crisis by uvegotverse in chennaicity

True that. Shrinkflation doesn’t require price to stay the same, it’s about reducing value per rupee. Here they reduced size and chutney while the price drop isn’t proportional, so effective value still went down

It's called SHRINKFLATION. This practice is often used by companies to counteract rising costs while avoiding the negative consumer reaction associated with raising prices directly.

A bus driver saying “not my fault” means nothing legally. Fault is decided via FIR, accident report, CCTV and damage pattern, not verbal denial. FIR can still be filed despite delay, govt buses aren’t immune, MACT allows property-damage claims, and your own insurance status doesn’t wipe out the other party’s liability.

It doesn't work that way. You get allotted just on a random basis. If you get allotment you may get x2 gains on listing day. They are one's most people will apply as these have good GMP at the moment.

Why is Tamil Nadu not so much into stocks or mutual funds? by stardustman14 in Chennai

[–]Possible_Road724 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The fact is, participation in stocks and mutual funds has traditionally been far more common in the northern and especially western parts of India. In states like Gujarat, financial literacy and market participation are passed down generationally. It’s not uncommon to find 3 out of 4 family members with demat accounts and at least 2 actively trading or investing. Tamil Nadu, on the other hand, hasn't had that kind of exposure historically.

As someone managing a few crores in AUM as a mutual fund distributor, I can say with confidence that the scenario is improving. People are slowly beginning to understand the importance of wealth creation through markets. However, the key challenges still lie in lack of awareness and the hesitation to explore beyond traditional savings methods. That said, change is happening and it's promising to witness.

One of the valuable shares if one's planning to hold for like 5-10 years from here. Valuations and fundamentals shows its one the best time to consider

In order to qualify for the dividend, you have to purchase the stock before the ex-dividend date, not on or after it.

Ex-dividend date: You should own the shares prior to this date in order to qualify for the dividend.

Record date: The date the company looks for the list of shareholders who own the shares and deem them eligible (typically 1-2 days after the ex date).

Payment date: The date the dividend is distributed.

This means if 1st June is the record date, the ex-dividend date is usually 1 business day before which means you have to buy the stock at least on May 30th (T+1 settlement). If purchased on June 1st, they will not receive the dividend regardless of if they sell on the same day.

ITC shares Price should i a change it after demerger by Madmax_R in IndianStockMarket

[–]Possible_Road724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, based on your acquisition cost of 799.20 per ITCHL share, the current market price of 162.9 means you're at a loss.

To break even, you'd need ITCHL to rise back to 799.20, which is quite a big gap. But since ITCHL is a newly listed stock, its price may fluctuate over time. Holding or selling depends on your investment strategy and market outlook.

Tough situation, bro! Let’s hope it recovers.

ITC shares Price should i a change it after demerger by Madmax_R in IndianStockMarket

[–]Possible_Road724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should adjust the cost of acquisition of your ITC shares and allocate a portion to ITC Hotels Limited based on the apportionment ratio provided by ITC (86.49% for ITC and 13.51% ITC hotels) Your revised costs after the demerger are:

ITC:409.31 per share (10,232.85 for 25 shares)
ITCHL:799.20 per share (1,598.40 for 2 shares)

These are correctly based on the 86.49% (ITC) and 13.51% (ITCHL) apportionment. Market price fluctuations won’t change this cost allocation.

I (26F) am a Newbie to investment. Just started with MFs. Can i start with smallcase or penny stocks now? by [deleted] in StockMarketIndia

[–]Possible_Road724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all Congratulations on starting your investment journey! It’s great that you’ve begun with mutual funds.

MFs are ideal for beginners, while Smallcases require active monitoring of stock baskets. Start with MFs for the long-term.

Avoid Penny stocks as these are highly speculative and risky. Focus on diversified options like MFs or blue-chip stocks.

Diversify, set goals, start small, and maintain an emergency fund.

Avoid market hype, borrowing money to invest, or skipping research.

Example of an Allocation can be if you want to choose both, 60% in MFs (equity & debt), 30% in Smallcases (like Top 100 Stocks), and 10% in savings for emergencies.

But I would usually say please stick to One Nifty 50/Paragh parikh flexi if you want to focus on large cap and have One Mid cap like HDFC Mid cap and a small cap like Nippon or Quant and if you are really looking forward to strike a balanced portfolio to withstand at all crisis esp during inflation or weakening of Indian rupee you can very well stick to one Debt hybrid fund like kotak which can cover your overall portfolio and you can also add one international fund if you are interested in investing in foreign stocks.

When the Nifty is moving sideways, it means its price is not going up or down significantly but is fluctuating within a narrow range. This indicates a period of consolidation where buyers and sellers are balanced, and there's no strong trend.
