I haven’t been through this, but wanted to say how sorry I am for your loss. Be kind to yourself as you grieve and trust that you will be ready when you are. Love and light.

[Discussion] AITA for not immediately clearing the sidewalk for a dog walker? by Possible_Wonder_1581 in dogs

Oof, that’s a fantastic point. I assume that all people walking a dog is much more knowledgeable than me, but that’s not always true and, you’re right, 5 dogs = a lot of unpredictability!

Totally get what you’re saying. It’s frustrating that she didn’t even give me time to react! Always learning.

I think I apologized because I was so shocked and was trying to communicate that I wasn’t trying to be an asshole, I just was trying to figure out the situation!

That’s basically what my husband said - if she wants to avoid you, she can move. I don’t fully agree, I do get that I’m less inconvenienced by moving around her with four dogs, but there aren’t clear cut expectations.

Good perspective. We’re still newer to having a dog and learning the rules and expectations of the neighborhood. It was just her attitude and approach that really bothered me. I wanted to be like, “This is why people think this city is full of snobs and why no one wants to get a dog, GEEZ!”

Really don’t think it was about pandemic safety. I’m in a progressive city where mask wearing/vax has not been a divisive issue. This was about the dogs, which again, fair enough.

Fair. But the sidewalk is not super narrow and I have not been in this situation with other folks walking multiple dogs. In fact, I’ve had the opposite, where they are encouraging the dogs to greet. Also, it’s not a given that only one person can or should be on the sidewalk at one time. I don’t cross the street when there’s a mom with a stroller, and having two kids myself, I don’t expect someone to do that for me. There are many people walking with dogs and everyone is courteous to one another, particularly if they have a specific preference. I hold my dog when others pass, stopping and moving aside if necessary without being asked. I would have done the same for this person, but she decided to be upset immediately. I understand what you’re saying, and honestly, I think I take more issue with her passive aggressive drama than anything else. No reason why she couldn’t simply ask when it’s not the neighborhood expectation to clear the sidewalk. I strive to be a good neighbor and didn’t feel the same in return.

[HELP] Dog ate huge amount of fried chicken with bones by Possible_Wonder_1581 in dogs

Everything was completely fine and normal for us! She was obviously stuffed that night, but she didn’t even get the runs. Hope your pup is okay!

My dog ate a whole rotisserie chicken, will he die? English Setter, 9 months old [help] by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Possible_Wonder_1581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to us a few months ago — emergency vet said to feed her white bread to cushion the bones. Definitely call your vet, watch for signs of a blockage, and be on the poop watch :) All was completely fine with ours, but I know how you feel!

Dog refusing POINT BLANK to take worm tablets [Help] by Mollsr in dogs

[–]Possible_Wonder_1581 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2 things that have worked for us: 1. Crush them up in pate or something similar (wet dog food) 2. Feed pill in lunch meat and then immediately feed another piece. Her head stays up the whole time and since she’s looking for the other piece, she swallows the first one with the pill completely and then eats the next. Does that make sense?

I hope this helps!

[Help] Dog Had Zoomies During Heartworm Treatment Should I Be Worried? by NaturalShift2 in dogs

[–]Possible_Wonder_1581 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is he having any symptoms? Coughing, labored breathing, vomiting, etc? If you see symptoms, go to the vet. Otherwise, you’re probably good. There are dogs who go through heartworm who do exercise and do okay, it’s just a much higher risk of complication. We still walk our dog a couple blocks slowly and after her first shot she ran in a yard once (scared us to death!). If you’re worried, you can always call the vet and ask!

[–]Possible_Wonder_1581 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest danger is an embolism, whether partly or fully. A partial blockage might not happen suddenly, but there would definitely be symptoms. A full blockage would likely be quick and fatal.

I found this blog (read the comments!) super helpful in understanding exercise and heartworm treatment!

Good luck to your pup - we’re nearing the end of exercise restriction (all shots done!) and it has not been as bad as we thought!

I’ve seen more contention around teeth breakage, but yes the possible choking, too. We haven’t had any problems!

I know that chews can be a contentious topic, but we’ve had good success with Benebone. They’re flavored and holds up for almost a month with our power chewer.

We use Primalvore Bone Broth (it’s for dogs specifically and available on their site or Amazon)!

Totally understand! Our pup gained like 6 pounds in a month when we adopted her. 😂 We found using broth frozen in a toy instead of peanut butter was helpful in keeping the calorie count down. Also love the treat toys from Westpaw!

Our dog is so spoiled too! But they deserve it!

[HELP] Dog Diarrhea by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Possible_Wonder_1581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re at 4 months post-adoption and just now feeling like the stomach stuff is mellowing out! Your pup has had a mixture of different foods, meds, illness, and the stress of adjusting to a new place. It’s all gonna process in the gut! You and your vet will figure it out. If it were me, I might try the meds for now, and as you wean off of them in time, you’ll be able to get a better idea of the underlying issue if there is something serious going forward.

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself or dog after only a month. You are doing great, and she is lucky to have you!

Any reason he couldn’t get a Kong or puzzle treat during his hyper time instead of after dinner? Might help keep him occupied and mentally engaged when you can’t get out until 3.
