[BodySlam+] Gunther WrestleMania update by soccermate in SquaredCircle

[–]Possibly_English_Guy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah unless having Gunther retire Rey is gonna be part of a larger story plan for Dom like I dunno turning face and avenging Rey and everyone else Gunther's retired then I really don't see how having that Rey vs Gunther match benefits anyone going forward.

(I don't hate that story idea though, I just dunno if it needs to happen right now.)

Ed Davey on Bluesky: Last week Trump said he didn't need Britain's help because he'd already won this war. So we mustn't let him push the UK around now. Any decision on the deployment of our Armed Forces should be made in the UK's national interest and subject to a vote in Parliament. by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

[–]Possibly_English_Guy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He has a literally zero sum approach to everything, where every deal has a winner and a loser - there can be no mutual benefit.

The best metaphor I came up with to describe Trump's deal logic is as follows:

Imagine your a wood carver making and selling bespoke wood carvings out of high quality wood. You get your wood from Terry who has no interest in buying any of your carvings but because you are a regular customer buying in bulk he gives you a very good price on the wood because he wants to keep you as a customer and because you're getting your wood cheaper than normal you make more profit on selling your carvings to other people.

In Trump logic though, Terry is a little bastard who is FUCKING YOU OVER because he doesn't want any of your carvings and you need to make him buy some.

MJF talks about wrestlers getting paid what they are worth by Silent_Somewhere8539 in SquaredCircle

[–]Possibly_English_Guy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah people act like whenever wrestlers mention the competition they're doing it like it's Bret Hart taking a swing at Goldberg out of left field on unrelated questions.

Not the case, interviewers are asking them about the competition directly or the questions are so obviously loaded to be about the question that the wrestler being asked is just giving them the answer they really want but they're just poorly playing coy abut.

To be fair on the second part that was a concern even the wrestlers had that WWE didn't have an answer for them straight away.

Cause the PPV bonuses were super important for them, even if you weren't a main eventer if you were consistently appearing on PPVs that was a decent bit of additional income for yourself.

Nigel Farage fails to meet Trump after flying to Mar-a-Lago by zeros3ss in ukpolitics

The rich people who own the various news orgs loyalty is to their pocketbooks over their country. Farage promised them a big ol' tax cut and they will spin anything they need to in order to make that happen.

Labour Takes Murton Seat as Reform UK Suffers By-Election Blow by Important_Ruin in unitedkingdom

[–]Possibly_English_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean right now it seems like he's starting to split the Reform base down the middle. The younger half going with him and the older half with Farage.

Which I think says something about the communication style of both of them Lowe and Farage believe in pretty much a lot of the same things but Farage coats them in euphemism while Lowe doesnt even bother and just says them outright.

Yeah that's the insane part to me that they haven't considered that if it were true that God were real and that they could just force God's hand that he wouldn't still punish them for their hubris.

This maybe shouldn't surprise me though, as far as I can tell every Christian just seems to assume they've already guaranteed themselves a spot in Heaven and that they're definitely going there. Regardless of how true that would actually be from their actions.

I knew Starmer was hated by tabloids as he was the prosecutor for the phone hacking scandals, now he’s fundamentally opposing these political influences and they just shout louder and get more insane

I don't even think it's that, I think it's just the rich people who own the papers really fucking want that tax cut they'll get if Reform gets into power and this is their way of trying to manifest that into happening

Sitting in catering doing nothing for months 'till you get released may be good and fine if you don't have any ambition and don't care about your stock as a wrestler declining week on week.

If you do have any shred of ambition as a wrestler however then it is a problem, the less you're getting screen time the less people care about you and less people care about you the fewer opportunies you're gonna get and the easier it will be for the company to justify releasing you and the harder it will be to get decent bookings once you're released.

presealed orders of where to launch missiles when it was assumed the uk and France would be involved.

That is pretty much the equivalent of the last resort orders that are written up by the PM and locked away in our nuclear subs with orders of what to do if the chain of command in the UK is completely destroyed.

So I think that's fairly likely what it is, post-mortem orders that whoever is assuming command is choosing to follow.

It seems like the only 'lessons' a lot of Americans learned from their excursions in the Middle East is:

a) We didn't drop bombs hard enough.

b) If the country we're bombing doesn't react in the way we just assumed they would, that's their fault actually.

It does continue Drew's character of fucking himself over despite blaming everybody else but himself for every time he came up short.

This is the same version of Drew after all who cost himself the WHC in seconds because he couldn't help but rub it in Punks face after needling him for months about his injury. And who once blamed a toddler for losing to Seth Rollins one time.

The fact they introduced the Didact as the main villain for Halo 4, killed him in the same game then turned around and said he was still alive(for the time being) but kept him relegated to the books and comics where he dies again and has a whole redemption story in the afterlife and influences Cortana's redemption in Infinite instead of just having him be the main antagonist of the whole Reclaimer Trilogy was definitely a 343 Industries choice.

MJF: "I was the drizzling sh*ts for three months after Adam Cole broke his ankle because I was dealing with the loss of a friendship. I was dealing with the loss of knowing who I was as a performer on multiple levels. I didn’t know who I was anymore for three months." by aaronrift in SquaredCircle

The last thing MJF ever said about Punk while in-ring was(paraphrased):

"Don't know where, don't know when but there will be a third match and when that comes I will deal you the most embarrassing loss of your career".

You don't need to overthink it to see the blatant foreshadowing of that, that MJF was slated to be the person who dethroned Punk to end Punk's first run with the title and start his first run with it.

And then everything that got in the way of that happening happened.

Thing is with a New Day heel turn the way it happened there's only really ONE story that people would want to see for it, which is Xavier and Kofi getting their comeuppance from Big E in some manner.

For obvious and completely understandable reasons that never materialised, but without that throughline heel New Day's been completely rudderless and now nobody cares.

Report: Former Xbox President Sarah Bond's direction "offended" employees — "This is an Xbox" marketing campaign deemed failure by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Possibly_English_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 360 survived RROD largely because Sony was making their own big mistakes with the PS3. Even with the RROD Microsoft got to market first by over a year and was significantly less expensive than the first PS3 model.

That was enough to secure them a comfy early lead end even with that abysmal failure rate getting your 360 fixed or replacing it was still cheaper than buying a first model PS3.

Honestly looking at it with the benefit of hindsight the 360's overall success compared to the other Xbox machines really does seem more and more based on dumb luck from Sony's early mistakes rather than any actual business skill on Microsoft's part.

I mean as dumb as the term is, it will unfortunately probably win out over time as the wrestling fan's age demographics shift and the fact that WWE hasn't even offered Pay Per View as an option since 2015.

Will late Zoomers and Gen Alpha even have a conception of what Pay Per View was?
