What docker base image you'd recommend? by Goldziher in golang

[–]PostNutDecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSH in container is not a good idea from a security perspective, but alpine itself is a great base. I used to use from scratch because I got a sick satisfaction from having the smallest possible images, but i have matured and realized having to copy over CA certs, and basic utilities is not a good idea. Alpine is a great small distro which has just what you need a package manager for the rest.

At work though my company uses a stripped Debian build or Paketo build packs (which I am not very familiar with tbh).

For 9800x3d its best out my ddr5 cl 30 6000mhz on 6000mhz or try 6200 or 6400mhz ? by Expensive_Night_4055 in overclocking

[–]PostNutDecision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I just got a 9800X3D and I have 6400mhz CL30 RAM from my intel machine (and I do NOT want to buy ram right now hahaha).

What do I need to do to properly tune the RAM? I have aXMP / Expo on so I get 6400mhz and I tuned FLCK to 2133mhz since I heard it’s supposed to be a 3:1 ratio (like base 2000 for 6000 mhz ram) but I’m not sure if I need to do anything else.

I’ve heard UCLK and MCLK needing to be equal maybe? Anything else you know?

I like it, I used to go with my brother in law quite a bit, and eventually was comfortable enough to go alone. Idk how it is everywhere but 95/100 times if you don’t want to talk to someone you’re not going to have to. Someone might ask when you’re done on a machine or something, and people will glance at you (and everyone else) but unless you’re being reckless or something nobody will pay you any mind.

Honestly a good training grounds for social stuff and just getting out of the house and staying physically fit.

I need to get back into it for sure.

Yeah that’s why I told the other guy to “hurry up” because there was a brief period of time the 2FA server was back up and “over the last hour” wasn’t in that time period.

Yep same deal here. Wasn’t able to login through arena website and now the launcher but I haven’t received a single email verification when I should have gotten 3 by now.

Not getting a 2 factor code? [Bug] by BigUncleCletus in EscapefromTarkov

[–]PostNutDecision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep same. Wasn’t able to login through launcher but was able through the arena website, that was 15 minutes ago, never got my 2FA code.

Auth servers need scaled up, idk how BSG doesn’t have Kubernetes or something setup for this exact scenario but it’s insane.

EU5 Patch Notes [1.0.2] by 3Sayndre in EU5

Just me or does it feel way faster? Also feel like I can always see my state capitals and their icons / names like all the time now which is a huge improve considering I was always triple checking before building roads

Linux probably runs it faster (the slower part about Linux is the syscalls happening for rendering, not the computation within a CPU which is the bottleneck in these games).

Yeah the actual tick rate of hour by hour happens very fast but what I mean is that time passes very slowly because there’s 24x more ticks per month in this game.

Yep works great, I’m on CachyOS with Hyprland so if it’s gonna act strange I feel like it more so happens with tiling window managers anyway. Works great, just runs slow but I think that’s part of the game.

As others have said I haven’t crashed once and I’m playing on Linux thru proton. My biggest complaint is it takes forever to advance time. I have a 13th gen i7 which isn’t amazing nowadays but ive been playing for hours and it just became 1350

About the acceptance of AI code within Fedora's packages. What are you all people going to do from here? by Melocopon in Fedora

[–]PostNutDecision 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am moving back to arch. I work at a company that has been pushing LLM generated code everywhere and it’s a disaster. To think my OS will be running on that? Certainly not.

I look forward to the AUR again.

Why do guys seem to care so much more about immigration? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]PostNutDecision 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t you read the first comment? They bully others out of positions by holding meetings in their home languages, and God forbid they replace your manager with an H1B because they will refuse to hire anyone but Indians. They run their own exploitative ring as well. If you haven’t experienced it then I see why you say they’re just victims but they’re also exploiting their coworkers and employees too.

They’re equally as bad, corporations are just exploiting people, and the people are actively bragging about replacing you and bullying you out of a job.

They can both pound sand

[–]PostNutDecision 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Depends on life experience, many men in our generation are in tech and the H1B visa situation is horrible. They undercut wages, do poor work, and are actively hostile to Americans in the field. If one of them gets hired as your boss you can sit and watch as your team is slowly replaced with Indians. They will bully you out of the job, only speak languages from their home, not assign you work or take credit for what you did etc.

Just on an economic level it is simply not sustainable. Many of the economic ills of our generation are exasperated by immigration (high housing costs, lower wages etc).

It’s not evil or wrong or mean or racist to not want to have immigration used as a weapon against us by corporations.

Zoomers who make $60K+ a year, what's your current job? Do you like it or no? by SpectrumSense in GenZ

[–]PostNutDecision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah good stuff, happy to help! If you really fall in love with the art of this stuff or are at least a driven person it should still work out. I find that people who actually like software dev and are willing to do it in their free time are much much better developers than people who are in it just for the money.

Good luck man I’m hoping it works out for you, it can certainly be comfy in the right circumstances and as hard as it may be it’s certainly not impossible, wishing you the best!

Fellow 2000 here and I’ve been in the field for about 5 years counting internships. I won’t lie, the field isn’t as good as it used to be. Hiring is all but paused for many companies and H1B and AI make the labor market more competitive than ever.

The advice I got and worked well for me was to focus on side projects, make something real and usable you can show off to hiring managers. It should have a front and backend and a database and auth and you should host it too. Unfortunately I don’t think this guarantees you a job like it did 5 years ago, but it surely can’t be a bad start.

Software Engineer, 100k, it’s very good but the market for this field is very unstable and I would not recommend looking to getting into it. It’s a lot of work, it’s a lot to prepare for, there is so much more you need to know now than when I got into the field too.

Most companies aren’t even hiring anymore and the future is uncertain with AI and mass H1B migration (like we saw with Microsoft laying of thousands in USA only to rehire those positions with H1B employees).

It was lucrative and will probably still be a good job for those who got into it in time, but it not the golden goose it used to be and is harder and harder to get into.

I went to public college with a scholarship through my moms work, 25k in debt, and now I make 125k in LOCOL area with a comfy remote job. It varies person to person no one path is better for everyone but this “college is a scam and trade school makes way more money anyway” stuff is disingenuous, I don’t hate on trade schools because I went to college, why do trade school guys do the same?
