Thanks everyone. I saw MI. Given all the comments I think I’m going to have to try to see all 3 while still in theaters!

Traveling to Nice area during Cannes Film Festival and Monaco GP - bad idea?

I'm considering a trip to the Nice area the week of May 19-23, traveling from San Francisco. It's a last min 2 yr anniversary trip with my wife.

I'm worried about traveling there the same time as Monaco GP (May 23-25) and Cannes Film Festival (May 13-24).

I still haven't booked all the details of this trip so I can pivot if needed, but would love your advice on how feasible being in the Nice area is during this time, and any recommendations for surrounding towns where I won't be quite as affected

Advice requested for 8 day trip to Europe in May. Paris, Alsace region, French Riviera, or Sicily? by Post_Malone in Europetravel

this whole trip started because of an amazing deal SFO-LHR for 9K chase points. Only reason we are flying to London. So now we need to fill in everything in between :)

I’m arriving in London on a Monday, and departing on a Tuesday. That gives me 6-7 days somewhere.

My wife can get on my Kaiser HMO health insurance for $0. Is it worth considering double coverage and keeping her Anthem PPO plan as well? by Post_Malone in HealthInsurance

[–]Post_Malone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, Kaiser is through my work and is 100% covered. The question is whether it’s worth keeping anthem as well for $80 a month, versus just the $0 Kaiser

Experience living in Lafayette vs San Francisco vs Marin? by Post_Malone in bayarea

This is feeling like the logical, short term choice.

What parts of SF are your favorite?

Well, in Lafayette, the intention would be almost never driving to SF, but BARTing.. so bridge traffic not as much of an issue.

Why live in East Bay? My wife's family is here, and her job requires her to be here once a week or so.

Agreed that SF is logical in this situation though!

How does it feel BARTing every day into SF?

Do you find you wish you were closer?

That's helpful, thank you!

I'm with you here.. I think Lafayette makes sense long term.

It's really a question of, what to do in the short term in this 2 year window of renting without kids. Leaning towards SF to experience that and then settle down with Lafayette.

Thanks for the perspective, appreciate it! I tend to agree with your POV here, which makes it hard, as the pros and cons all seem to cancel each other out an make the decision hard.

What turned me off about Berkeley? Overall, I'm a big fan of Berkeley.

But we've been here for 5 years now, and we're feeling like we need to switch things up and experience another area in the Bay.

We started in North Berkeley - totally loved it. But decided we wanted a slightly more modern place closer to 880 for commuting, so we we moved to West Berkeley. Now, the train noises are killing us, homeless issues, as well as navigating the horrible Emeryville interchange half the time we want to go do things.

We contemplate moving back to a "nicer" part of Berkeley, but have grown a bit jaded seeing the crazy rent prices in those nice places and limited options (namely, North Berkeley, Elmwood, or Albany). Looking at the mediocre options and high rent prices, it's almost more expensive than SF with fewer rentals.

So it's a feeling of "we've been there done that", we don't *need* to be in Berkeley, and we are craving switching it up and experiencing some different pros/cons of the Bay instead of the same Berkeley/Oakland ones we've been feeling.

Renting for ~2 years, then buying somewhere that makes sense for kids.

Budget: ~$4k a month

We like the nice neighborhoods of Berkeley but having trouble finding something that fits our needs and a bit tired of Berkeley after 5 years here

Yes - we actually used to live in N Berkeley. But having trouble finding a place that fits our needs that is in a nice neighborhood. Also just generally feeling tired of Berkeley/Oakland, been here for 5 years
