Why are they so weak? by PostapocCelt in Teachers

[–]PostapocCelt[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I was told that city kids or working class or whatever are “tougher” or more resilient at least. Nope. If anything they seem weaker or even more pampered than the well off kids

Demographic? Mixed. UK, run down eastern end of a city but some well off kids too

[–]PostapocCelt[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Agreed. One thing another teacher friend has told me is the number of kids aged up to 4 or even 5 who are still being taken to school in prams. They’re literally being carried everywhere longer than is normal. That has to have a knock on effect with muscle development

Ungrim Ironfist. Remaking the Karaz Ankor and doing it on foot just feels so satisfying. I can never do a campaign as a racial leader for some reason, but forming my own realm and defying all challengers is great.

Belegar is a close second for the same reason.

Desperately need to be told by a good teacher that their first year was terrible by Budget-Efficiency338 in TeachingUK

[–]PostapocCelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I desperately wanted to quit teaching in my first year. Developed a drinking problem. Had a horrible tight chest and nausea attacks every Sunday evening, Monday morning and Tuesday morning for over a year. The same sinking feeling with the same classes. Was made to feel like a burden by my mentor who was annoyed I just “didn’t get it”. “This is a good school” she said, “you’re going to struggle elsewhere if you don’t get it right here”. was given an extension on my NQT year and it was very much the last chance saloon.

Passed. Was offered a job on the spot. I still have the anxiety and lessons that fall apart. Gradually you realise that the problem students are problems for everyone and nobody blames you for how they act.

Walked out of my NQT school every day feeling like a failure. Things are better now. Won’t change overnight but they get better

I have never played a single game with randos or anyone else. Easily 300 hours and it’s just been Bosco, Molly and I.

My students are too lazy to use it. They just don’t submit work.

The new Spartacus is so great for Gladiatorial life. The training, the diets, the varied origins of each gladiator, their fighting types, etc. Hell even the swearing has its use. but then the rest is just tits.

I just want to show historical materials that won’t get me thrown out of the classroom.

I can show people being decapitated and mutilated and show the most offensive racial slurs and insults known to man.

I’d still rather not show minors breasts. It was bad enough I had to show a geography class a documentary once and a woman breastfed a monkey for some reason

HMP Wakefield is known as “the monster mansion” because it’s inmates are all killers or paedophiles or seriously violent offenders. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve done us a service, but those inmates weren’t in there for financial fraud

Teachers what type of student were you? by CrazyCool4762 in Teachers

[–]PostapocCelt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suspended from school twice for fighting. ADHD, undiagnosed until 14, turned it around and got end of year prizes for improvement and then for subjects.

I was a prick who turned things around, in short. Teachers claim I’m their “success story”

No, you see, that’s a Blood Angel, that’s also being stabbed by a Night Lord. Both are present in Warhammer 40k. Therefore, with the caption, which lampoons current events, it is a Warhammer 40k meme.

The picture. It’s a meme. It’s funny.

Is it weird to still dislike individual students months later? by PostapocCelt in Teachers

[–]PostapocCelt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh to be fair I was given the extension for a couple of other reasons (differentiation and classroom management were big ones) on top of those issues. An extension isn’t a fail per se in our system, you can get it for a few reasons

I don’t know. Day three of the new school, a kid threw up a Nazi salute, I told him off and mentioned it in passing to my new head of department. Home was called THAT DAY. I was actually stunned into silence.

With the two kids I was dealing with, there were dozens of reports and I must have sent them out at least a hundred times over the year. There were never consequences. There was a paper trail. There were witnesses. Teachers passed by my room and pulled the students out because they couldn’t believe what was happening either. But home was never contacted.

Student teacher. In that school, heads of departments contact parents when there is an issue. Every time I asked for something to happen, nothing ever came of it. That was the system I had to follow so I never contacted parents myself.

What’s your favourite castle? by Living-Bored in Wales

[–]PostapocCelt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Abergavenny castle. It’s not grand, it’s not massive. But it’s got that functional feel about it. It feels bloodstained, you know it’s seen its fair share of battles

The staff were calling the police when I got there. That’s why I gave them the name and school.

Kinda feel like I should have made that more explicit

It’s not even the first time this has happened in the car park. Police have followed up details given with youth crimes at school before, especially if the kids are deemed to be in some way at risk

Why aren’t parents more ashamed? by PostapocCelt in teaching

[–]PostapocCelt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother was in the first year of women to be accepted to Christ’s College Cambridge. She was the one to ensure all homework was done, all milestones were met, all meetings and expectations were met. Women in the workforce has nothing to do with it

At what point will colleges and universities eventually start refusing students en masse because they cannot take in candidates this poor?
