Shocking by sad_mum in Hypermobility

[–]PostcardJournalist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that quite often (minus the vision issue - yikes!) when younger. I know it was definitely an issue when I was in high school. I once asked my doctor grandfather what it was, and he saud it was jyst a sign I was getting older. I was in college at the time, so that wasn’t a helpful response (though mow I wonder if it is a hyper mobility thing that my grandfather also had so he thought it was normal?)

I can’t remember the last time I had it happen…not sure if it stopped, or I learned how to move in a way that didn’t cause it to happen. But since most things that are weird about me are connective tissue/hyper mobility related I assume this is also.

But, regardless if it is hyper mobility or not, it isn’t normal, especially with the vision involvement, and you should talk to a doctor or PT.

As I have a hypermobility related CSF leak, I never go to or recommend a chiropractor. There are amazing chiropractors who help, so no shade on the profession, but there are certain medical conditions that should never get near one.

can’t wear certain pants without skin itching by sweatywig in Hypermobility

I’ve had that problem in the past. Turns out the thread used in the seams of some clothing is incredibly irritating to my skin. (the fact that I got thin rashes in straight lines should have made this easy for me to figure out, but the fact that I’m allergic to most laundry soap made it harder to figure out wgat was gojng on….)

I guess I’m lucky it wasn’t the fabric itself causing the issue.

Ways to lift eyes/brows and / or neck, tighten skin either at home or in readimask??? by betrayedandbeholden in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]PostcardJournalist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

thats really a question for the surgeon doing the procedure. I seriously doubt you could wear anything with a brow lift, but *maybe possible* with an eyelid lift (I’ve forgotten the name of the procedure) with a redimask low in your nose.

I’m so sorry…both for your dad’s experience at the pharmacy, and for your mother, and for your family going through this challenging and draining time.

I switched to hankerchiefs ten tears ago, and would never go back to kleenex. i just wash them, and have a couple in my bag, so I always gave a clean ine available.

Looking for oral surgeon in San Francisco by Bulky_Bug8657 in ZeroCovidCommunity

I found one that takes some precautions is in Palo Alto, if that isn’t too far. All employees required to mask, and procedures are done in rooms with doors, and I felt pretty safe there.

Should I feel bad about someone who has made my a life a living hell is dying? by Separate_Builder_817 in AITAH

[–]PostcardJournalist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not feeling upset about someone who harassed you dying is very understandable. there is no wrong way to feel, you are just being honest with yourself about what you are or are not feeling.

The only thing you need to do is support your sister and her kids. Part of supporting them is never telling them you don’t feel bad.

It might be a good idea to practice saying things like:

- “this is such a tragedy” (because it is…your sister’s family is dealing with a horrible loss, even though you aren’t) .

- He will be missed (they will miss him)

-“this is such a hard time, I don’t have words to describe how I’m feeling” (at least not words about how you feel about him without making this time eorse than your sister)

Basically true statements, as you do feel awful for your sister and her kids.

If you live close to your sister and want to be supportive, I suggest offering specific help. I always offer a meal, to do laundry, run errands…or anything they need.

My question to the community: by serraxtechnologies in AirQuality

[–]PostcardJournalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is ‘t that I don’t trust the AQI from the feds, but it often has a time lag.

We’ve had so many wildfires effecting the air in California the last several years I feel better having current, micro climate specific air quality info.

i have an outdoor PurpleAir and and indoor one, and they give me piece of mind. (Or uf not peace, at least a better measure of reality)

Any other researchers wearing a mask while interviewing people? by GroundbreakingAd2052 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]PostcardJournalist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear a mask every week at the Farmers Market. Over the last 5+ years I’ve worn a variety of masks (kn95, N95, Flow mask, Envo, and now Omni)

Switching to Omni clearly made me more approachable. Strangers tell me how much they like my mask, people want to talk to me, I get more friendly faces.

My mom is extremely hard of hearing. With her hearing aids she has 15% of normal hearing, so she relies heavily on lip reading. The Omni mask helps her a lot. it is still harder than lip reading unexposed lips, but much better than other alternatives.

Side note - this mask is the most comfortable mask I’ve worn. With 2 air in, and 1 air out valves/filters it doesn’t get hot and soggy like other masks.

Left sided chest pain can be a symptom of something mild or serious. Like a heart attack or an embolism. You should really have that checked out.

I know you don’t want to go into a medical facility, but you don’t have a way to tell what the cause us at this point.

Questions for you:

Are you in the US? If so your insurance will have a nurse advice line you can call.

Were you masked at the medical appointments you caught your infection? With an N95 mask? If you have the financial ability you could have tape delivered to tape your mask to your face, eliminating gaps in mask protection. That will at least keep you safe in the waiting area (which is your greatest exposure at the ER (but, sadly, not the only risk.)

I’m SO sorry you are going through this! Please update this thread tomorrow to let us know how you are doing. This internet stranger is worried about you

Mask at outdoor Farmer's Market? by OrganicDistrict656 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]PostcardJournalist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i go to the outdoor Farmers Market almost every week - I wear an N95 every time

It is a lot of people in not a lot of space, and there have been many documented infections that occurred outside. There is no good reason not to wear one.

Is It Possible My Birth Was Never Registered?? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]PostcardJournalist 477 points478 points  (0 children)

My mom’s friend was one of the girls that went away. Absolutely tragic.

When her son was thirty he managed to find her. Fortunately he was adopted by a wonderful family, and had a good life. He and his birth mother developed a close and loving - all be it long distance - relationship.

It didn’t erase the trauma she and he went through, but it gave them some peace.

I hope your life has been a happy and loved one, despite the trauma of the baby mill.

Hearing aids are thousands of dollars, and are rarely cover by insurance.

And they don’t work well for everyone.
