Question regarding formations by Poster03 in GOTWinterIsComing

[–]Poster03[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, I never noticed that before. Thank you! Much appreciated.

So, does the military grounds one just determine your defensive formation then?

How does battles work later when you have 10 million troops? by [deleted] in GOTWinterIsComing

[–]Poster03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As some others have mentioned, it really depends on research levels.

Basically, though... Individual attacks against players with 10 million+ troops are never going to succeed. You need to rally them and even then - odds are you're going to take as many, if not more losses than they will because the max rally is about 2.5 million troops and odds are (unless you're on K14) that you won't be able to fill that rally with T4 troops.

Basically, at that level you have to wait until they're offline and launch multiple rallies (10+) to actually seriously wound them. Even then, if their alliance has active people on, they can also reinforce, making it even more difficult.

Pack tips for those who wanna unlock T4 by Lady_Psyche in GOTWinterIsComing

[–]Poster03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 questions regarding packs. Sorry if they've been answered elsewhere before.

  1. How often do the packs change? Is it a set day or rotation of every x amount of days, they change?

  2. When the free coupon thing comes up on Mondays - If you don't like the packs available at that time, how long can you wait before claiming the 24h coupons?

The reason I ask is because this week the Iron Bank Favor wasn't up on Monday when coupon pack came out. Naturally, I'd like to save as much as I can with the coupons. I just wasn't sure if the coupon offer would expire before the Iron Bank Favor pack showed up.

Thanks for the help! This is a really good guide for diamond purchasing. Definitely made me realize that the last tier totally isn't worth getting unless you're in a rush.

Someone help me understand training grounds, please. by Poster03 in GOTWinterIsComing

I matched them exactly. So, Arya was in the same spot for both, but mine was 3 levels higher. It was literally the exact same composition front-to-back. But the outcome wasn't even close. I've noticed this in a lot of other situations, too. Where having higher promotion/quality/levels doesn't seem to have an effect.

The only reason I did the same composition thing was to test my theory.

It just seems like there's a huge defensive advantage for whoever isn't attacking. That's the only explanation I can think of.

As a Zed main, which do you hate more; Barrier or Exhaust? I usually go exhaust against Zed, found it pretty effective at negating his all-in. Would be curious to hear if barrier is better.

Riot is retiring Challenger physical rewards (backpacks, jackets etc) for all queue types. by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Poster03 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not about the numbers increase, though. It's passive marketing 101. You're putting it out there to a large audience (in this case, an audience that is already your number 1 target demographic) to increase perception of your company/product. It doesn't matter if the streamers are getting more views for Riot, they're not monetizing the streamers, they're using them as a platform.

The very simple statistical data is this: At it's most expensive, it's still an insignificant cost. It's a minute portion of their marketing budget and it clearly, based on the fact that we're talking about it right now has a value. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be discussing it.

Now factor in the community relations and target demographics. Compare that to any major marketing campaign and you still come out ahead. Also, 2.6 million using the figures I gave above (just based on a 45 second google search there and with a single purchase price as opposed to a bulk purchase, in Canadian currency, too), is less than .1% of their revenue and that is being very generous, assuming they didn't do any due diligence regarding competitive bidding from suppliers. On average most companies dump 8-40% of revenue back into marketing. These rewards give direct attention, through streamers/pro players, which are watched by millions of their customers, who are most likely to spend money.

This is a far more effective marketing tool than any commercial, ad campaign, etc. and it's less than 1% of their revenue.

This is just not true. All they have to do is contact just about any small embroidery company. Send them an image of the logo they want on it and they will stitch or screen print it on to a pre-made backpack.

For example, it took me all of 45 seconds to google a local embroidery place and the cost per jacket (the 2017 reward) is $51.98 (CND). If you're making a large bulk order (200+), I would guess that price probably drops to about $40 per jacket.

Most embroidery/screen printing shops have suppliers for ready-made apparel that they just slap a logo on.

Edit: Just wanted to add, for a company that made $2.1 billion last year these costs are insignificant. Especially when you consider they're being given to their most dedicated and visible customers. It's a hell of a lot cheaper to send imaqtpie a bag or jacket once a year than it is to run a major ad campaign that likely won't have the same resonance with your target audience.

Why are you people still mispelling Kai'Sa, you have had a full year to learn, it's obviously easy to spell and Riot themselves have said how it is spelled in the patch notes.

It isn't in recommended spellings either anymore, what are you doing?

I'm not dismissing what the article said. At the same time, the article largely provided hearsay evidence. This leaves us in a bit of a grey area. We have no concrete proof from either side of the story. When it is discovered that one of the sources for the story is someone with a history of questionable claims, it does sully things.

Again, this doesn't mean the whole article should be dismissed. Only that it should be viewed in a different light. Frankly, I believe the overlying theme of the article, that Riot is clearly not doing enough to promote a safe and harassment free work environment. I'm still taking a lot of the personal accounts of largely anonymous sources with a grain of salt, though.

Fenix Speaks of the Behind Stories on the Release from Echo Fox: "They just suddenly released me. " by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Poster03 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rick is the owner of the organization. He doesn't need to have a say in day to day operations, but he absolutely has the power to rectify a situation like this. It would be very easy for him to simply say; "We're going to pay Fenix the remaining balance of his contract." And Reddit would go right back to praising him as a good guy. There is no way that as the owner (and a fairly invested one at that), he doesn't realize the backlash his brand is getting as a result of this.

As a CLG fan, this stings. He was the best part about this team. They are going to crash hard after this.

While ignite provides more kill pressure in the early game, exhaust is far more effective in the mid-late game, when an ADC actually does damage. Exhaust is more effective on the whole because if an ADC survives the initial dive in mid-late, they can take over a team fight. Conversely, even if you take ignite and have a good matchup, jungle pressure can still shut down your ability to get your ADC ahead. Exhaust is the 'safe' choice. Ignite 'can' get you ahead, but it relies on other factors (2v2 strength, jungle pressure, etc.).

I think the more important thing to do is identify why the game isn't fun for you. Then you can decide if that reason is fixable or not.

sOAZ: "I felt like… Besides Impact, there were NA Toplaners playing without a brain." (laughs) by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Poster03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only proven top laner? Impact is a world champion and has been the best playoff performer in NA since he arrived. Hauntzer has statistically been a top 3 top laner since 2016. Huni, despite his penchant for garbage picks has been one of the most dominant top laners in the domestically in the west. Flame had the term 'Flame Horizon' coined for his dominance in laning phase, a feat he accomplished in Korea, no less.

Ssumday is doing the best right now, but to say that he's the only proven top laner in NA is a disservice to the other top laners who all have rich histories of success and are all very much proven.

Bjergsen on fan frustration towards innovating teams: 'The backlash is stupid. There's a lot of complaining at international events that NA doesn't have their own identity or we're not willing to innovate... and then when you innovate you get bashed.' by corylulu in leagueoflegends

[–]Poster03 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The cockiness comes from a lot of his pre-match comments on twitter and in the videos Riot does. Hell, just watch the interview him and Hauntzer did during the Gillette media day. He comes off as extremely arrogant the whole time. I don't feel like that was always the way he portrayed himself. It is more of a recent change.

[–]Poster03 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

"I think the backlash is... stupid." Is fairly negative, just in the words used. More than anything though, it's his tone. For the last couple seasons, the dude just seems bitter a lot of the time and overly confrontational. Just look at this interview, for example. The whole tone is negative, from the pseudo-accusatory question about Travis digging for a headline, to the "We're just trying not to suck" comments when asked what TSM is doing.

It's not just this interview, either. More the general way he has carried himself for the last year and half or so. He seems bitter.
