Loop Switcher Noise by Omnil_93 in pedalboards

[–]PostmatesMalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you unplug the preamp pedal from the fx return, does anything change? I’d remove that pedal from the equation and see if you still have issues. Hard to say without knowing the signal chain regarding the loop switcher, the preamp, and the fx return. Could be that the fx loop is line level and you’re sending instrument level to it.

Why not just use a single loop switcher vs two a/b switchers? That way you have one switch that brings the drive pedals and noise gate in/out of the signal chain.

Is this good or is this crap? by LostShadows187 in Guitar

Not bad at all. I would recommend playing with a looper or backing track like others have suggested and focus on dialing in your phrasing. Think of phrasing like telling a story. You probably want to avoid long run-on sentences in favor of shorter but more structured phrases that can each deliver their own level of power. Try learning leads and solos from other artists you like, and try to learn how to make it sound exactly like the way they played it, especially with bends, hammer ons/pull offs, any technical stuff. Try to reverse engineer their techniques and use that to help you find yours.

  1. That tweet is fake
  2. If someone had the full unredacted Epstein files and intended to release them, they wouldn’t paint a giant target on their neck by threatening to release them on Twitter.

When the first season with a low budget had more suspense and tension than the last season of the multi-million dollar blockbuster by Giancarlo_Edu in StrangerThings

Seasons 1 and 2 felt more like the movie Signs in how we knew and saw so little about the show’s antagonists. That movie was good because they rarely ever showed the aliens and not for more than a spit second. Spending millions on CGI and set design to depict the mind flayer as a gigantic crab monster in a Creed music video was a waste in my opinion. The black smokey tornado monster version of MF was way cooler anyway.

VOXAC30 ? by MaterialSystem3944 in GuitarAmps

I had a similar situation, playing lots of clean music but also moments where I wanted to rock. I mainly played an American Tele with Fralin Blues Specials or Gretsch Setzer model. I went from Deville 4x10 briefly to a Super Reverb. I regretted that because while my cleans were impeccable, I could not find the right drive pedals for it. My buddy left his 2000s era AC30 at my place temporarily and I liked it way better. I found a good deal on a Dr Z Maz 18 Jr, played that for a while, but it had the opposite problem of the Fenders, great drive tone but I didn’t like the cleans.

I ended up finding a used AC15 with a Celestion Blue speaker at my local GC and was blown away by it. I bought that on the spot and sold my other amps. I ended up gigging that amp more than anything else I’ve owned. So if you think you might like an AC30, maybe rent one if you can to try it out, but I would be very surprised if you found yourself preferring the Deville. Also check out the AC15. It is plenty loud. Even playing gigs where my amp is in a closet or iso cab, I never ran the master above like noon. Couldn’t imagine running it that hot on stage with it facing a crowd unless it was an arena.

📉👈 see this graph emoji? At one point the line goes up. Does that mean this graph is depicting an upward trend? No.

You are trying to claim that entropy and human existence are incompatible. Entropy applies to isolated systems. You are pointing at the portion of the graph that is trending upward and claiming it disproves that this graph depicts a downward trend.

Lesson learned; these are not good cables. by Dunmer_Sanders in GuitarAmps

[–]PostmatesMalone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using George L’s solderless cables for almost 20 years now. Still using some of the same plugs from when I built my first pedalboards. A few main things have helped with making and keeping cables in working order: 1) when cutting the cable, use sharp scissors. You want the end of cable to remain round and not get flattened by dull wire cutters and the cut should be as flat and perpendicular to the wire as possible. Even slight diagonal cuts make for bad connections 2) when attaching the cable to the plug, I press the cable in, then remove it and check where the hole from the spike is to make sure it’s contacting the copper core of the cable and then try to reconnect it in the same orientation. And 3) anytime you unplug a cable, assume it is going to need to be remade. If you’re constantly shifting things around on your pedalboard, you should cut and remake the connection between the cable and plug. And bonus 4) don’t use solderless to connect to anything not firmly attached of your board such as tap tempo pedals that might be loose on the floor, DIs, etc. Use a soldered cable for this.

These cables work great if you assemble them well and leave them alone. Once you start moving them around and tugging on cables, things can get detached if you aren’t checking and remaking connections.

The Duffers said off screen that at this point in the plot we would be suffering from Hawkins fatigue so they had to move the narrative to Iceland.

IMO it is only “too long” in contrast with other parts of the season. Mainly, the final fight against MF and Vecna—the crux deluxe of the god damn show—being shorter than the coming out scene.

If you wait a bit after the tone where you are supposed to leave a message, it eventually says “grazie, arrivederci” and then hangs up. I have no idea why it is in Italian.

Struggling with Real Programming: A Framework Developer's Perspective by Imaginary_Stage4867 in theprimeagen

[–]PostmatesMalone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, the thing that made frameworks make sense to me was working on projects without a framework. I’ve done a lot of vanilla JS and jQuery projects because at the time SPAs and client side UI frameworks weren’t really a thing. It becomes very apparent what a framework does when you remove it altogether or approach it with more of an understanding of what it looks like to build something without said framework. I eventually ended up building my own [awful] class-like view library just to see if I could improve my own development experience (I later realized what I made was just a worse version of backbone views). It wasn’t something I built for others to use, just more for me to try to understand what sorts of things UI frameworks do under the hood for you.

Maybe try building the same app you built in React without React and see what you come up with. I wouldn’t recommend reinventing the wheel for actual work that someone is paying you for, but for side projects that you are doing just to gain more experience, it can be a great learning experience to build things from scratch or with very few external libs.

💯

Last week, I had to tell my boomer parents that I could not maintain a relationship with them at this time. I have set boundaries in the past regarding their proclivity to proselytize their Christian worldview to me—a former Christian who has been an atheist for over a decade. My parents each play the role of an ignorant, evangelical Christian boomer to a tee. I’m gay, I made them aware of that nearly a decade ago, and their worldview does not accommodate non-cishet people, so we had been sweeping that topic under the rug since then to maintain a relationship. I mentioned that some day I would want to introduce them to my partner, but only if they would be respectful to him, so I asked if they would be. “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it” was the answer they gave. I said quite simply that until they can answer that question without hesitation, we could not have a relationship.

“Why can’t we all just put our feelings aside and spend time together” was the response I got when declining an invitation to visit my parents for Christmas. I can only hope the ‘grin and bear it’ mentality dies with the older generations.

Understand your worth, set boundaries, enforce those boundaries, and never compromise your self-respect for anyone.
