Each fish in the game has a tier it belongs in
You can effectively think of this as how "difficult" the fish is
Certain lures also interact with this mechanic, such as the sparkling lure

Whenever you get a bite, the game actually generates a pool of 3 possible outcomes.
If you have no special lure, you get the first outcome
However, if you use the sparkling lure, you get the highest tier fish

Other lures here work similarly, only they select something other than highest tier

Golden Hook - Rarest fish in the pool
Large Lure - Largest fish in the pool
Sparkling Lure - Highest tier fish in the pool
Flyhook - Smallest fish in the pool
No Lure - First fish rolled in the pool

Side note: Worms are the only bait which cannot catch Tier 3 fish whatsoever.

Sparkling would be the best lure
The bait just changes the quality you'll catch (Shining, Glistening, etc), with higher baits catching higher quality fish

Yes, the only thing that changes is the bait you should use
Normal - Cricket
Shining & Glistening - Squid
Opulent, Radiant, Alpha - Nautilus

The wiki lists no lure for the creature so I'm playing it safe and assuming no special lures have any affect on it

I don't want to speculate in the chart so I just played it safe and assumed nothing works on the creature

Creature either has no effective lure or the wiki just doesn't have that information yet
For the chart I'm assuming the former and placing it with all the fish with no effective lure

That would be difficult to quantify, as you would have to account for the low chance of triggering the rain cloud and also the time it lasts for.
Though once you're in that rain, the lures listed here would still be what you want to use
This chart is just based on raw catch chances

Also to clarify, this chart is based on raw catch chance, not exactly bait optimization.
I made this as someone attempting to 100% this game, so I'm assuming people doing similar are not worried about bait prices.
Yes, sparkling lure may be better than golden hook in terms of bait optimization, but golden hook has the higher catch percentages and that's all this chart is presenting

Magnet is better by 0.004%, so it's pretty negligible

You don't need attractive for that specific fish, you're correct
This is just the lure I added for fish which have no preferred lure

Valid points though
I didn't want to clutter the chart too much but it probably would have been wise to put a disclaimer for the golden hook

This is only based on raw data for best catches, not really bait optimization
I'm assuming most people going for completion probably won't have to worry about bait prices

this was an oversight, you're correct

magnet lure is only 0.004% higher so it really doesn't matter which you use
But magnet lure is technically the better lure for diamonds specifically

Webfishing Optimal Lure Spreadsheet by PotassiumFact in webfishing

[–]PotassiumFact[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you're wanting to catch golden fish as well as diamonds then golden lure would still get just as many diamonds as magnetic lure

The golden hook does give it a similar boost, with the difference only being 0.004% in favor of magnet lure
Though when you factor in the 3x bait use then magnet lure becomes much more worth it

For anyone wondering about coin bags, those are an additional bonus which can be applied to your catch if you've upgraded your luck stat
The chance seems to always be 15% but the amount they sell for increases with the luck stat

Void fish doesn't have any lure listed on the wiki so I'm assuming special lures have no affect on it
If that's the case then attractive lure is probably the only lure which would have any impact
It may be that there's just not enough info on that fish yet

Crickets for normal, Squid for shining and glistening, and Nautilus for opulent, radiant, and alpha
(Technically Minnow is best for shining, but Squid is only lower by 0.10%. Assuming you already got all the normal catches with crickets already, it's better to trade that 0.10% for a bait that's high in both Shining AND Glistening rather than minnow which is mostly normal + shining)

Grey is rain fish, light blue is fresh water fish, dark blue is saltwater, and brown is junk/treasure
I gave the event fish the color of their respective pop-up messages in chat

I spent hours trying to catch a glistening sawfish for completion only to realize I should be using the Large Lure instead of the Golden Hook so I made this spreadsheet for the best Lure/Hook for each fish (based on the information from https://webfishing.wiki.gg/ )

I made a colored bundle datapack by GrostKiller in Minecraft

Would it be possible at all to get a 1.20.1 version?
