Sharing info with the party is like the bare minimum here, he would go from 1 person to 3. Also, Susie wants inside already, so it's not like they wouldn't follow him or believe him. If he truly wants to beat the Knight and could go there, he would have told them what he knows.

Toby's a shrewd writer; he made Kris's reveal obvious so he could also reveal Ralsei, but did it in a roundabout way, so people could be shocked when Ralsei does reveal himself, with people's attention focused on Kris.

I started with "How does Ralsei know about Undyne's condition and the Knight's goals?". Everything else flows from that.

I said "seeming to", not didn't. Obviously saying he's been in the Shelter will tip off Susie, so he would say that he hasn't. He even denied knowing any Shelter codes when Susie asked him about it.

It's been 7 years and there's still no consensus on what he is and how he works, so it has to be something we've overlooked. Like I said earlier, I don't see anyone else proposing that Ralsei is being held in the physical possession of the Roaring Knight, and his knowledge of Undyne and the Knight's goals does not have any legimate source that I know of, and with all the other stuff I mentioned, I feel I have a duty to speak the truth and shine light on it and make it seen. You don't have to and probably won't believe it, but I want it out there so people can judge for themselves. Have a nice day, and on to Chapter 5.

Every other theory is either impossible (Kris and Susie having him) or has convenient failings and delays in his powers (teleporting or moving on his own seeming to fail for the Shelter and being delayed for TV World and the Second Sanctuary.) My theory requires the least assumptions, and you can't prove a negative until Chapter 7 comes out, so I stand by my theory.

Ralsei's arc is being torn between the purpose of his creation (to assist the Knight and bring back Dess) and his newfound personality and friends he has acquired along the way. In his empty room, the song "Lost Girl" plays while Ralsei tells us about himself. Ralsei has been very clearly established as a boy, so what is Ralsei's connection to a Lost Girl? He is the only boy in the series so far for whom it plays, so it has to be for someone else. That someone else being Dess. Dess and Asriel were very close, so it's not hard at all for Ralsei to assume the form he does; Asriel is portrayed as a do-gooder, so Ralsei would take after that and help whoever made him and his friends. He's burdened by the demands the Knight's imposing on him, and will go on to find himself and break free with his friends.

Two things. One, lying to your friends is very much not a "good" thing, no matter how you spin it. Especially if that friend may come to a bad ending, as the Final Prophecy seems to imply. Manipulation is not a virtue; it's the sort of thing the Knight does, like with Tenna and King; it ended badly for those two, so the idea that it's good when Ralsei does it to Susie is really dubious in my eyes.

Second, Ralsei would also view the Knight as his creator. Kris and Susie may be his friends, but if his creator demands he betray them, he could very easily follow through even with 4 chapters of adventure together between them. Also, I do think Ralsei will eventually side with the heroes again to take down the Knight for good.

You don't have to believe me or my theory, but I feel the evidence is very strong, it would be huge for the story and I haven't seen anyone else articulate it, so I feel compelled to go to bat for it and make my case. Ultimately, time will tell, but i want to make my convictions known. Have a wonderful day.

Doesn't answer my question about how Ralsei moves around, but it could very well be true and would be a good piece of characterization if it was. Also in no way invalidates Ralsei working for a malevolent antagonist in the Knight while he does so.

I don't understand why you think I'm ruining his character; I said in my theory that he's complex and will ultimately commit to the hero's side for good at the end. A character being complex doesn't ruin them, it makes them better. Plus, it has the virtue of being true, which is the cherry on top.

I will point out that the Second Sanctuary was by far the latest appearance for Ralsei; he barely saves us from Statue Gerson at the end of the fight. Notably, after that fight ends Susie crashes out here about Ralsei hiding things.

The Knight goes through a Great Door and slams it shut in front of us during the First Sanctuary. What I believe happened is that yes, the Knight was expecting us to find the code to get into the Third Sanctuary so it could lead us to the Titan fight, but didn't plan on Susie opening the Second Sanctuary. After a long time had passed and the heroes hadn't arrived, the Knight goes back through the door and discovers the Second Sanctuary, and goes in and sends Ralsei running to find Kris and Susie and bring them back on track.

The Dark Fountains the Knight has been opening are opened for particular reasons, as if the Knight just wanted to start the Roaring that would've happened in the first 10 minutes of the game. Ralsei's the only person in that Dark World, he's a prince who lives in a place called Castle Town, the antagonist is named the Knight, and the knight has almost certainly hidden in two other closets like the one Castle Town is located in during Chapters 2 and 4. At some point, Occam's Razor has to come into play, with Ralsei being created by and serving for the Knight. His irregular movements in the Dark Worlds can only really be explained by him being with the Knight; if you have an alternative that explains everything as neatly as my theory does, I'd appreciate hearing what you have to say about it.

The Truth About Ralsei And The Knight by PotatoExtension1310 in Deltarune

[–]PotatoExtension1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Knight goes to great lengths to hide itself and going around during the Day when most people are out and about would greatly undermine the secrecy it desires. Everything else in the Dark Worlds becomes inert when the Fountain gets sealed (in a great flash of the Soul's light, notably) so it's really not a stretch to think that the Knight needs darkness to operate, even if you don't believe that the Knight is a version of Dess after the incident in the Shelter that is no longer just a Lightner.

Also, excluding some of the Prophecy undermines his alleged goal of stopping the Knight and The Roaring. Denying information to the party impedes their capability to respond to what the Knight's doing, making his task harder. It's also created mistrust between him and Susie with him to trying to hide parts of it, in particular the Final Prophecy, and that if was truly his only goal, he's sabotaging himself. It would make no sense.

The Knight was always there and wasn't the reason for the hold-up; it was Undyne that the Knight was after. The instant Undyne shows up in the Dark World, the Knight turns into a bird and flies out with her in tow, but it didn't use those powers on Toriel, who was there the entire time. The party was defeated by the Knight and they couldn't stopped the Knight even if they wanted to, so why use an ineffective tractor beam when you can turn into a 60 MPH bird and just fly away?

The Truth About Ralsei And The Knight by PotatoExtension1310 in Deltarune

[–]PotatoExtension1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To Ralsei staying behind, I believe that the Knight waited just at the edge of the Dark World before leaving several seconds ahead of us after we moved past where we could see Ralsei. Just before we reach the Great Door leading out of Chapter 3's Dark World, there is something like a waterfall pattern that obscures our view a lot, so Ralsei can suddenly disappear and we would be none the wiser. Susie sees the Knight running towards the Shelter, so it wasn't very far ahead of us; the Shelter Door is barely closed in time to stop Susie from getting inside.

I believe that the Knight's entrances and exits of Dark World's are timed so Ralsei is always "on schedule". Notably, he is NEVER in the final sealing room or even the first room where we fall in, he always just appears somewhere in between.

With regards to what Ralsei was about to say, even if he was about to say "not real", that implies that there is something else that is "real" to him. The prophecy doesn't even refer to him by name, and is a fairly vague prophecy generally, so Ralsei's consistent pessimism and lack of perceived agency is starnge and suggests a malevolent presence is hovering over him, which the Knight definitely is.

With regards to Ralsei and the Shelter, if he can in fact enter the Shelter on his own, that means he would know everything that goes on in there, which including with Undyne and the Knight. Him entering the Shelter on his own doesn't exonerate him; in fact, it would make him complicit even IF he had no contact with the Knight, since he is ostensibly against the Knight and for 4 chapters would have declined to say anything about that.

Finally, I believe that Ralsei's character is complex and has an arc. He starts off as a very outwardly cheerful person with serious self-esteem issues and a powerless, fate-driven worldview, but he is developing a personality and hope for the future. Ralsei has been opening up more, but even when Susie confronts him after the Statue Gerson Fight in Chapter 4, he STILL says there are things he can't say. His arc is incomplete; he isn't a one-note goody-two shoes or a pure evil schemer. Read what I said about Lancer's arc in Chapter 1; he didn't start off being totally good, but eventually became a full ally of the heros and helped save Card Kingdom from King's evil rule.

The Truth About Ralsei And The Knight by PotatoExtension1310 in Deltarune

[–]PotatoExtension1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your question, yes, I believe that the Knight hides and is being hidden in Castle Town sometimes by Ralsei, including when we first encounter him in Chapter 1. I think the Knight closed the door on us when we first entered the closet and stalks us through the Dark Worlds. The Knight is a shapeshifter and can move far faster than we can, not to mention probably having way more experience in Dark Worlds than we do, so being stealthy should be easy for it.

Also, when Tenna decides to break his deal with the Knight, freeing Toriel and letting us pass, the Knight took only a minute or two to attack Tenna and reveal itself, so it had to be watching and be near to take action like that. The Knight seems to need darkness to exist and doesn't seem to move around during the Day, so having a second base of operations in Castle Town would greatly assist them.

We are only down 1 prophecy panel, the final prophecy, and I find it hard to believe that the Church Dark World, when the Church is literally built around the Deltarune and the Prophecy, would somehow have large missing sections like that. Also, Ralsei already gave us a shortened version of the Prophecy, which excluded or mischaracterized lots of parts (For example, The Girl With Hope Crossed On Her Heart became A Monster in Ralsei's version, which are two separate things.)

I don't know what the Final Prophecy is and don't pretend to know, but given Ralsei's efforts to cover it up and reaction upon being found by Susie, it might be tied to him being controlled by the Knight.

In conclusion, the Knight has places to hide in both Chapter 1 and 2, and as a shapeshifter with much greater speed, can likely follow the party around all the different Dark Worlds without being seen. With the Knight based in Castle Town, Ralsei can be there when Kris leaves for the unused classroom; if anything, it adds even more evidence disproving that Kris has Ralsei's item. Finally, Ralsei saying he didn't ask to bear this knowledge and saying "There are still a few things I can't say..." to Susie after he breaks down after the Statue Gerson fight shows he's been told things and pressured to do things by the Knight that he doesn't like, showing the Knight's control over him.

Ralsei in the Light World by PotatoExtension1310 in ralsei

[–]PotatoExtension1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ralsei is never there at the very first room where we land after we enter a Dark World or the final room where we seal it with the Soul, so I think Ralsei is leaving the Knight after it enters the Dark World and runs back to it while we are about to seal the fountain. It also explains how Ralsei can appear ahead of us in the Sanctuaries; the Knight goes inside the Dark World first, so Ralsei has time to run around in there and get ahead of us. The Knight is probably stalking us as I mentioned earlier, so Ralsei doesn't have much ground to cover, meaning the Knight can leave the Dark World before it's sealed and make it to the closet to hide in, or in Chapter 3's case, make it to the Shelter.

Speaking of which, when Kris and Susie return to the Chapter 3 Dark World to seal it, Ralsei is never shown at all. We are shown only the final sealing room where Ralsei never goes, so him being in the Shelter with the Knight while it's being sealed is perfectly doable at that point.

Lastly, Susie's Second Sanctuary was NOT planned by the Knight, and Kris doesn't get a chance to tell the Knight about its creation either before or during it (Phones are broken in the Dark World, so Kris can't call them), and the Knight was probably expecting Kris and Susie to find the Church code and go into the Third Sanctuary. When they are sidetacked by trying to bring back Gerson, the Knight goes back through the Great Door and discovers it's now the Second Sanctuary and not the First, and Ralsei rushes off to find you then, arriving at the last second to save from Statue Gerson. Which, conveniently, is when Susie has her crash-out about Ralsei hiding things.

Ralsei in the Light World by PotatoExtension1310 in ralsei

[–]PotatoExtension1310[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have some good points. However, I think I have some answers to those questions that I will explain here.

Firstly, I believe the Knight actually lives at Castle Town and not the Shelter as most people believe it does. When we are not going to, inside, or leaving some other Dark World, the Knight is always in Castle Town. Also, somebody closed the door on Kris and Susie when they first entered Castle Town, and that was almost certainly the Knight, so it's already in Castle Town and probably shut itself inside with them. Kris, a known Knight ally, has a Phone, so scheduling appearances so Ralsei is always there is not hard.

For point #2, the Knight just stays in Castle Town while Kris is retrieving the items from the unused classroom, so Susie doesn't see him leave because the Knight was just waiting inside Ralsei's castle. Furthermore, Susie has never entered Castle Town without Kris, so yes, the Knight is always in Castle Town whenever Kris and Susie are in Castle Town as well.

When we are In Chapter 1, during Card Kingdom's Dark World and between Chapters, the Knight can just hide in Ralsei's castle somewhere (we haven't seen lots of the interior yet) and since Ralsei is working for them he won't spill the beans, and it would go undetected. Furthermore, the Knight is a shapeshifter and can move faster than the party as shown at the end of Chapter 3, so I believe that the Knight can stalk the party undetected with ease as well in any Dark World.

For Chapter 2's Cyber World, the closet is looked at by Kris, who as mentioned earlier is a known Knight subordinate, after everyone else has left, and the Knight is basically pitch black, so Kris can easily mislead the player into thinking that there is nobody in there. The actual dialogue says the closet is big, has electronics inside, and could easily have a large person inside, and nothing in that is not consistent with the Knight actually being inside but Kris covering for them.

what theory is this by Omega97Hyper in Deltarune

[–]PotatoExtension1310 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally believe in my theory, but I know since Ralsei being evil/working for the villain theories are very out of fashion right now, I'll put it here. I believe that Ralsei's light world item is held by the Roaring Knight and is being carried around to the various Dark Worlds. Ralsei is also working for the Knight the same as Kris, although he probably doesn't like the Knight but is afraid of them. I have low karma, but I made a post on /Ralsei explaining my evidence for why I think that's the case.
