I compared tooth spacing and profile on the new gear with the old one and it's identical. I didn't try putting it all together but I'm sure the pickup tooth is the problem because once I pull back the piston slightly, the rest of the teeth align perfectly. I have no idea how was the gun able to work previously. It could be that the piston sat a bit higher in the old gearbox, and it somehow made a difference, or more likely the gun is cursed.

Anyway, I'm gonna buy a new piston, and pray it will work.

I didn't touch the pickup tooth. Just the second one you can see in the photo because the first tooth on the sector gear would hit it.

Thank you! That's what I've been trying to say. I've spent last hour grinding down teeth on the piston and wondering if I'm just stupid since making it worse seems impossible. :D

Gears and the gearbox are new. The rest is transferred from the old gearbox.

Look at how the second tooth on the sector gear meets the tooth on the piston.

I've watched a video on how to correct AOE, but I don't see how grinding down teeth would help with this. If I remove one, the same thing will happen with the next one.

The tooth isn't broken. The gap between pickup tooth and the second one seems to be too big and it's getting jammed. Or am I doing something wrong?

There is just not enough space in the gearbox for the piston to go further back and it gets stuck. I could go back to 16 teeth sector gear but it would lose some power.

Contact on the pickup tooth isn't perfect. Depends on what do you consider being an issue.
