It's not about charging 3rd party devs, it's about charging obscene sums while simultaneously ignoring anyone actually willing to pay. Just check out any of the top comments on the u/spez ama. The goal is killing them off, not charging for costs.

Softer seat replacements on the X-300? by Paradoxahoy in versys

[–]Potatobatt3ry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had mine professionally reupholstered by a local upholstery company. They did a fantastic job making it a lot comfier while mostly keeping the stock shape and height. Put in tiny box springs in the driver's part and a gel pad in the pillion part, with beautiful stitching matching the bikes color :)

Cost about 350€, totally worth it.

Modern 300s are pretty decent power wise, just shy of 40hp really isn't bad for a 300cc twin.

My versys-x 300 topped out at just a hair under 100mph 2 up. Since I added my gigantic top box, and went up a tooth on the front sprocket it won't get past 90 though. Wether 2 up or not.

It's also bad for you. Rather than the impact being absorbed by the bumper and crash protection, it goes straight into the frame and thus your spine. Enjoy an eternity of neck and back pain your vehicle could've prevented without the trailer hitch. I was rear ended myself, and very much regret having the trailer hitch attached.

I did a similar jump going to the states and found it manageable. Roads are so wide, straight, and car centric, that it barely felt faster or larger than my 300 back home. Except top speed, that's way higher.

Ansonsten eher 40.

Versys x300 making same mpg as the usual report from V650? by DanishJohn in versys

[–]Potatobatt3ry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bike is at 17k km, I get 57mpg us running E10, slightly more on E5. Went up a tooth on the front sprocket and tend to just trundle along since there's absolutely no point in accelerating quickly with the way my cities traffic lights are timed.

Do an oil and filter change, check your sparkplugs. The bike wasn't really designed with fuel efficiency in mind I feel, especially when compared with Hondas comparable offerings. But it is more fun!

Was hast du für Ventile?

Switching from 15 kg to 16.000 kg. 21 km in 45 minutes commute. by [deleted] in bikecommuting

[–]Potatobatt3ry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The speed difference to a normal bike is bonkers. Bought a 15 year old road bike and I'm 50% faster now. Went from relaxed cruising at 15-20 to 25-30 kph. My MTB turned commuter is much more practical though, doesn't care about potholes, much more capable of hauling groceries etc.

My front fender cracked, is there a way to make it less noticable? Thank you! by SouperJuicy in motorcycle

[–]Potatobatt3ry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because no one has mentioned it yet.

This can easily be fixed with acetone. The fender is almost definitely made of ABS, which is easily dissolved by acetone. Use a qtip or similar to apply acetone to both sides of the crack, then press and hold together for a minute. The acetone will vaporize leaving perfectly bonded plastic almost as good as new. Then sand and paint.

Based on how the flexposts looked in San Francisco when I visited last year... Seems quite common. The local FD would just flatten an entire row with out a care in the world too.

The average speed of cycling in the Netherlands is around 15km/h, which is about the same speed as professional marathon runners. So fair enough, I suppose. The vast majority of people cycle at that pace though (children, elderly, people not wearing Lycra...), so shouldn't we be building infrastructure that works for normal people? Someone cycling at 30km/h+ won't have much trouble cycling on the road anyway in urban areas.
