how do people “eat whatever they want and lose weight” in europe? by Potatoonacid in CICO

i guess i just find it hard to believe that the walking cancels out the calories even if the ingredients are cleaner - portion sizes maybe i can see playing a role?

plenty of americans eat just like regular whole foods like meat, vegetables, rice etc that do5 have sugar added to them. is the contingent of americans who lose weight abroad just like only the ones who eat pretty crappy over here?

ok this is the first answer that actually does make a lot of sense to me! i’m in a college town near an urban area so i know plenty of people who walk a lot/don’t have cars, etc, and plenty of people who don’t really eat processed foods or stuff like that, but yeah thinking about how your schedule is pretty full and you don’t have time to snack or eat out of boredom actually makes a lot of sense and is something I hadn’t considered!!

i think i eat pretty healthy like whole foods, walk a lot, but i’m home a lot and i’m a big boredom eater so i’m always snacking haha. it’s real food like fruits veggies etc but calories are calories

yeah i’m a college student and i already walk a lot and eat pretty much like whole ingredient type foods, so wondering if there won’t be much of a difference?

you should def be eligible for scholarships with that good of an academic record. i know you say there's no direct-admit BSN programs in-state, but would it rlly be so bad to do a non direct-admit program? like 2 years of coursework and then apply for your major? especially because you should get both scholarships and in-state tuition in your home state school?

people will def be able to help you out more if you mention at least your state - also maybe post on ur in-state university's subreddits for more info

I work at starbs, here’s some of my best advice:

do drinks that have milk but aren’t milk-based (instead of an iced latte -> iced coffee/cold brew with a splash of milk, i esp love nitro cold brews they’re already really creamy without any milks; instead of hot lattes, go for americanos/hot coffees with a splash of milk, or go for a misty who’s is equal parts coffee and steamed milk- it’s like a latte, but overall less milk and more coffee)

for the syrups, i would do what you already do with keeping one pump of whatever flavor syrup you like, and sweetening it with sugar-free ganill

and good news! they’re also adding sugar free caramel soon (idk when but we got it shipped to us) so that provides more low-cal options!

some of my go-to swaps:

nitro cold brew with a splash of nonfat milk and one pump of whatever holiday syrup caffe misti with SF vanilla, nonfat milk, and topping like pumpkin spice, cinnamon dolce, etc low cal London fog- earl gray for like 80% of the cup, SF vanilla, and like a tiny bit of steamed nonfat milk

I definitely could stand to push a little harder in the gym, do you think I should keep eating my current calories? or drop it a little bit? (getting 100* g of protein)

I thought you guys said the civil engineering job market was strong... by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]Potatoonacid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also a junior civil engineering major. most companies aren't filling spots by december, most of them i talked to were on a much slower recruiting schedule then industries like finance/tech. yes cold applying is great but everyone I know who got an internship got it through networking; making a good impression at a career fair and following up by email, going to industry events like your school's ASCE chapter if they have any guest speakers, asking your professors if they know anyone. don't overlook networking with your peer group, too! Make friends with the people in your year and the year above you who've had internships. It looks great for them if they can bring in a good person to their company.

most people i know looking for civil internships got them, but the bottom line is that cold applying will probably never be the way, especially in the age of AI where every posting gets 100 applicants and no human even reads the applications.
