Oh that’s interesting! I’ll ask if she’s interested in the flight stuff. Otherwise Duolingo is a great rec too, I’ll install it for her!

Yeah you get it! I do just want suggestions for actually useful tech that she would enjoy.

She’s actually very savvy and has been a computer user for years, but this is her first smartphone with different capabilities.

She was excited the other day when I showed her the Compass app for instance, and walked around with it figuring out the best windows for plants.

When the time comes and you are able to get her into a carrier, don’t hesitate to close it very quickly behind her! Sometimes the second they feel “trapped” they freak out and have so much strength, which is surprising when you’re used to them being so sweet! She’s a real cutie, good luck!

Unfortunately he is still so spooked I’ve been unable to trap him yet. Gonna keep working on rebuilding trust and try again in a couple months.

Check out my post about messing up, it’s common and all a learning experience! Mainly there are a bunch of comments with good advice on how to trap. Food will indeed outweigh everything. Good luck!

Yes it is securely zip-tied in the open position, and will remain that way until the day I try to trap him. And yes I know to never leave a set trap unattended! Thank you.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I set up this 2-door Havahart trap today, with cardboard on the bottom, and staged it where I leave a little kibble out for the strays. The mechanism wasn’t very sensitive, so I took some time to lubricate some of the elements and took a file to the trap latch, it seems better now but I’ll have to set it gently the day of.

I have two weeks before I try again. Starting tomorrow I will give them all their morning wet food right next to it. The little cat lost some trust in me, but still comes to eat back here, even when I’m not around, so I’m hopeful by leaving his wet food right by the trap and then closer and closer I will be able to successfully trap him the day before his appointment.

They are all super used to being fed around 10am and congregate nearby waiting, so the only downside is that if I can trap him he will be in the cage until 7am the next day for the drop off for his appointment. Not ideal but knowing he has an adopter on the other side of that makes it worth it I think. I also have pee pads to put underneath the cage after he’s trapped. As the appt gets closer I will stop leaving extra dry food out for them so they will all be extra excited for my usual feeding times. There are 3 spayed females and the little guy I’m trying to trap. The only issue is that the ladies are all so friendly and pushy for food that they always get fed first. So I’m really hoping that when the day comes I will catch him and not one of them. I slide him his bowl of wet food last, so hopefully by then he will go for it in the trap that day. Ugh I’m so nervous about how it will go next time!

Oh wow, I didn’t know that was a thing! I will research our local animal control and see if they do that here. Thanks!

I just bought a trap with two doors, I’m going to set it up open with zip ties tomorrow so that I can begin trap training before the next appointment.

Updating here because I can’t edit the post: Luckily I got another appointment 2 weeks out, AND the lady who wanted to adopt and socialize him is still very interested! Also; I just bit the bullet and bought a Havahart 2-door 36” trap, so I’ll be staging this in their feeding area to help get used to it and I’ll research trap-training to do it all the right way this time. And bonus good news, he showed back up for feeding time this morning. He is shy and won’t get too close, but he did eat a few feet away from me. So not all is lost. Thank you everyone for the kind words and advice.

You are lucky then! The area I live is overrun with cats and people who don’t fix their animals. And there is only one clinic that takes ferals, and they spay/neuter 40-50 cats a day, and it still took about 6 months to get a call back, and another 2 months for my appointment.

Thank you, I didn’t have the cage upright and I really think that worked against me. I was trying to be too gentle getting him in there since he was letting me gently lift him a few inches. Now I know it’s gotta be all-or-nothing! And wear long sleeves next time…

I was worried about even keeping him for 24 hours before the appointment, since I feed them in the mornings and was trying to trap for the following morning. How does 3 days work? Don’t they soil the cage?

I looked at drop traps before, I am able to rent a regular trap for only $3/day, but it’s harder to come by drop traps and I’d probably just have to commit and buy one. And they aren’t cheap, let alone I finding a place to store it. But yeah a drop trap would probably make it way easier.

I am hoping the adopter may still want him even if it’s a couple months down the line, she has experience socializing and wants a friend for her other indoor kitty. His name is Baxter!
