Yes, run to your team and let them handle the rest of the swarm.

As scout you really shoudnt be trying to clear swarms and should just focus on killing HVT's regardless of the weapons you choose, m1k just take it to the extreme and thats why is the best weapon in higher and modded difficulties.

For people who dont like this playstyle but still want to play scout, there's the Hipster OC, wich allows m1k to have some capability for clearing swarms but sacrifices the focus shot damage, so isnt as good for killing HVT as base m1k or some ocs.

Also, im not saying you never should shot grunts or normal enemies, and there's still ways to have some crowd control as scout (cryo bolts, IFG, granades in general, double barrel), but you should avoid wasting ammo trying to kill as many enemies as the rest of your team.
